Review of Island View Inn

A wonderful place to stay! Staff are very friendly and helpful and seem to enjoy conversing with the guests. It is kept up beautifully with gardens and outdoor chairs overlooking the bay. The whole place is immaculate and the bathrooms are very large.

The room is beautiful but some essentials are missing, and the business is questionable. We have stayed before, and enjoyed the view and pool, so came again, but this time we were very disappointed. At least this time there is a mini-fridge, but no microwave. And worse, no coffee maker, so you have to get dressed and go down to the lobby to get coffee in the morning.

The weather was cloudy and cold, and that's not their fault, of course, but it left us wanting to watch a little TV. The picture was terrible, so I asked for it to be looked at, and that there was a lightbulb out. "Kenny" came down and looked, and said he thought there was nothing wrong with the picture, but would fix the bulb, which he did. He did nothing about the TV. He denied any problem, and said the TV was the same In another room. I asked him to follow through with contacting the cable company and fixing the problem.

We got back, and it was the same. The front desk clerk said maybe it was the weather, but I replied there had been little to no wind or rain for the past several hours. Kenny was gone, but she told me he was the owner and I could speak with him in the morning. She refused to come up and look herself, but gave me water I had to ask for, for some evening tea.

Knowing the owner is the same for the Strawberry Hill Motel next door, I went to ask if they had any rooms and if I could see one. She wanted to know where I was from because the owner, "Dana," doesn't like to rent to locals because there have been problems. (I can imagine - beginning with complaints!). I checked out the room, and the TV there was fine. She said there had been problems with the cable there, but that TV had a good picture. It's not the cable of the weather. It's the shady owner - is it Dana or Kenny?

    Don't stay here.

Room tip: Don't stay here. For the price, you should be able to have coffee in your room, a microwave and a TV. They are deceptive and dishonest.

My husband and I stopped here on our way from Bar Harbor to New Hampshire. We happened to be down the road and I found them online. This place was amazing! The view from our room was exactly what you see here. The decor was nautical color wise and very well done. It was so peaceful and quiet and we could have stayed for days except our flight was leaving the following day back to North Carolina. We would definitely stay here again. Anyone who has a complaint about this place is one of those people who is never happy.

Room tip: Try to book a room with the view. Can't be beat!

What an amazing place we happened to land for the night passing through Coastal Maine! Would definitely make this a destination. The room was perfect, decorated beautifully, cleaner than any other this trip, and quiet. The balcony was private and cozy, the perfect place to sit with coffee in the morning or to listen to the soft lapping of water and birds chirping. The staff were so friendly and welcoming also. HIGHLY recommend this hotel, beautiful grounds and pool, wonderful restaurants nearby too! Cannot wait to visit here again!

Magical place to stay with the views of the water from one's own screened in porch.... Definitely recommend a room on top floor. We were on the south end and it was quiet. Great bed and nice to have a TV in the room as well.

Room tip: Only wish they served breakfast....

We stayed four nights at the Island View Inn in August. We'd never been as far up the Maine coast before and the location was just right: between Rockland and Camden. The inn was lovely. Our room was quite large, exceptionally clean, with a comfortable king bed and a delightful porch overlooking the water. Binoculars are provided for a closer look. Two chairs and a small glass table allowed for a perfect breakfast (while the inn does provide very good coffee and tea, we did have to venture out for food: we discovered a bagel place just a few minutes drive away that was very convenient) and wine glasses, a corkscrew, and ice bucket meant leisurely drinks before and after dinner. The inn has an infinity pool that's heated, with comfortable chaise lounges. The front desk provides pool towels. And if you want to immerse yourself, take a walk down to the Adirondack chairs by water's edge and soak in the scenery. The area has wonderful restaurants to choose from, and Rockland's Farnsworth Museum has beautiful Andrew Wyeth watercolors. We took a short trip up to Belfast one day and another down to Port Clyde. Island View Inn was a wonderful base for our trip, and a wonderful place to come back to when we wanted to just relax.
