We recently (as in a few days ago) stayed at Drift for a total of 5 nights. Going into the trip, we knew that the place would not be super modern, especially since we booked a "cabin" (stand-alone room) that had not been renovated. We didn't arrive in Camden & Drift until nearly 9 pm at night after driving 4 hours. Immediately, even with the little light left on the horizon, we were overcome with how beautiful and tranquil the place was. Drift staff remembered me mentioning that it was our anniversary and inside our cabin was a bouquet of fresh flowers in a vase along with a bottle of rose wine chilled in a bowl, plus 2 wine glasses ready for us to use. The place was pristine and we were able to get a good night's rest. I could go on and on about Drift so I'll just say this - this is one of the most magical places I've ever stayed in. The place is rustic and there were a few bugs in our screened-in porch (with windows that can close), but that didn't deter us from having a wonderful stay. Often, we sat on our porch and just watched/listened to the water. We had everything we needed in our cabin (two-burner portable stove, small fridge, Keurig, plates, silverware, etc). I had emailed months back asking about a blow-dryer in the room and staff made sure one was there for me to use. There is also a quiet rule (no noise past 10 pm), but I found that, even during the day when we came back to the cabin to rest after an excursion, the entire grounds were still so quiet and peaceful. Also, Drift is a couple of minutes' drive away from Camden Hills State Park and from downtown Camden so it's a great place to stay as you sight-see. I will definitely recommend Drift to anyone who asks! I'm already counting down the days til we can go back to Maine and stay at Drift.
**That being said, Drift is not perfect. Again, you might see a few bugs here in there inside your cabin. We stayed in Cabin 10 and there was a wall with a hole (really, a window without the glass) and doorway separating the sleeping area from the screened-in porch and kitchen. The "window" area on the wall had curtains but the doorway didn't have anything. I'd say that it would be helpful if the doorway also had curtains. The way the cabins are laid out, I don't think anyone could really see into the bedroom area but having curtains on the doorway would have been nice for some privacy. Also, the bathroom is simple and the shower is very small (so is the sink). Overall, though, these minor inconveniences were so minor that they didn't derail our stay one bit.
