Paradise!

Stayed at this beautiful hotel for 2 nights and wished we could have stayed for at least two more. First with location— this hotel is just outside Rincon de la Vieja and has lots of activities to keep one busy, from hiking to thermal pools to a lovely spa and of course the Rincon de la Vieja National park. The rooms are lovely with lots of space and hammocks outside each room to just relax—one could just sit and enjoy a book and do nothing else. The staff is very courteous and helpful. We had room 131, which was just perfect! The breakfast in the restaurant is very good and has lots of variety. We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant which was excellent. Went to symbiosis spa for a message treatment, which was out of this world. Massage treatments include sauna, mud bath, solarium and volcanic pool. The staff brought us detox drinks, hot and cold through the almost 3 hour experience at a very affordable price. Highly recommend it. I would love to come back for a longer time.

My boyfriend and I stayed here March 30-th to April 1st. We were only there for a couple of nights due to an injury on my part, and this is where the staff really shined.

But first:

Food - YUM! The breakfast buffet was awesome. Lots of fruit, amazing rice and beans, eggs, meat, empanadas, and incredible coffee. The bird watching during breakfast added a nice touch to the experience. We had a nice dinner at both restaurants as well.

Pool - very relaxing the one time we used it. We also got a sandwich from the beach bar, which we enjoyed.

The room was simple but we were comfortable.

The grounds are so well maintained, we loved walking around and seeing all the beautiful plants and flowers.

The Staff - I don't even know where to begin. The front desk was so informative and helpful when we arrived, as well as patient and friendly.
Everyone working the grounds said hello with a smile behind their masks. The restaurant staff was also pleasant and friendly.

I saved the best for last because this is where it gets interesting and what made me fall in love with the people of Costa Rica. We went to the adventure center to book a hiking excursion. Edward was our tour guide/hero/savior. It was just my boyfriend and I on the hike, so the 3 of us had what would have been a 6 mile hike to the La Congreja Waterfall. Edward was informative, friendly, and has a GREAT sense of humor. Just before we reached the waterfall, I had a medical emergency, which was 3 miles into the hike. Edward immediately contacted the hotel for assistance, which has a paramedic on site, and several people came to assist to get me off the mountain.
Erick (the paramedic) kept our spirits up and made us laugh, all the while providing medical attention. Edward remained calm but also concerned. There aren't enough words of love and gratitude that I can express to all the people involved.

Ana, whom I believe is the manager, is such a lovely and caring woman who also kept a watchful eye.

They treated us like family and it made such a difference that I almost had a good time during this nightmare.

We would definitely go back as the hotel has everything we want out of a vacation.

This was our first hotel we stayed in after arriving in Costa Rica and it didn’t disappoint.

The grounds of this property are beautiful and so peaceful. The rooms are basic but clean.

We eat in the bar and the food was amazing I had nachos and my husband had tacos which were both delicious.

Breakfast was also very good. Lovely setting in the restaurant.

After breakfast we checked out and then did a couple of activities, first we did the horse riding which was very enjoyable and peaceful. Followed by the river tubing, I didn’t enjoy this as much as I was a bit scared but my husband loved it.

It was a great start to our Costa Rican tour.

Room tip: Try the bar food

We stopped at Guachipelin on our way to Fortuna (as it's relatively close to the airport) and are so glad we did. The hotel is on an enormous private property that protects everything from waterfalls to hot springs, and is a haven for those seeking adventure and action. The rooms themselves were a bit threadbare, but one doesn't come here to stay in the lap of luxury and to lounge about in the rooms. We took full advantage of the one-day adventure tour (horseback riding, zip lining, tubing, hot springs) and had a blast. The one-day adventure staff was knowledgeable and professional (although my kids felt rushed on the zip lining... I, however, did not).

I would caution you from taking the guided tour of the Rincon de la Vieja park - not worth it... and very expensive. Just walk it on your own. Also, the hot springs and waterfall... don't get your hopes up high. They're worth a short side trip, but not worth a major stop over/detour if you're not already in the area.

The food was buffet style and offered a great variety of typical Costa Rican food.

Overall, a great stay that was focused more on the exterior adventure than on the interior rooms/set up.

We really enjoyed our time at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin. We were a bit disappointed on the food - it was a bit bland and the service at the "nice" restaurant was quite slow. However, the property more than made up for it with the front desk service and access to such beautiful scenery and wonderful activities. We loved everything we did - from the horseback riding/river tube, to the Volcano hike (2 mile) and the waterfalls, mud baths, and pond. The room was large but the bed was super uncomfortable. Overall, would definitely recommend staying here.

I had an amazing time - zipline, horse back riding, water tubing. However, this review is about the chocolate I bought in the gift shop. At $5/each, 50g, this was already a pricy option. However - with expiration date in 2023, this was a unique gift.

Fast forward - opening this chocolate at home - it is rotten, dry, horrible. What a slap in the face.

Because I bough this chocolate, I did not buy other chocolate at the airport.

Place of business is responsible for services and goods they provide.

Room tip: Avoid buying any food items in their gift shop.
