Amazing resort - thank you Iberostar

We have been to this resort many times and the experiences are always incredible. From the amazing food to the exceptional service, we are never disappointed. Special thanks to Victor our butler, Maria our maid, and Manny at the prestige lounge, each of which made our trip another wonderful experience.

Our concierge Armando and Robert were excellent. The entertainment staff Chem and La Melaza were great and friendly, they made the activities so much fun. Alexander at dining was exceptional and the staff at the buffet place. Rafael at check- in was awesome

Room tip: The buffet had the best meals and short waiting time

I had a great time at this resort. The workers went above and beyond to accommodate us. When I got there on Monday, I immediately took sick (unexpected) and Rafael at front desk/check-in jumped into action to help me. Thank God things improved so I was able to enjoy my trip. A shout out to our concierges Armando and Roberto who were exceptional in giving us updates of each day’s events and restaurant choices . They were also friendly and greeted us with a smile each time we saw them. Then there were the entertainers Chema and La Meza… EXCELLENT! When I say they kept us entertained, especially at times when there were no others activities, they did just that. As for the restaurants, the food was more to be desired, except for the Bella Buffet, which had some great workers but the one that stood out to me was Alexander. Alexander knew how we we preferred our tea and coffee and it was ready for us daily when we came in. He made it his point of duty to check in to make sure we were in need of nothing. We were spoiled and I’m fine with that, as we are now going back to the reality of life.

We just got home from Iberostar Grand Bavaro, not impressed at all. I’m not even talking about the horrible seaweed problem that they have because obviously it’s not their fault but nature problem.
The room was ok, nothing special, we saw a dead roach in the room.
The resort looks nice and the grounds are beautiful.
The biggest problem is the food!
The steak restaurant was a joke, the food was tasteless and they completely did our orders wrong. The buffet for lunch and breakfast was bad, food looks and tastes awful. The fresh juices were tasteless, orange juice was very sour and papaya juice not sweet at all! I don’t understand how in the tropical country they don’t have tasty juices from fruits that grow there!!
Some restaurants inside smell like mold ( Italian and French) and the food wasn’t good either. It’s funny how they put up a show; there are several servers one for the bread, another for water , another one for wine and another one for food, you would have thought that you are in a fine restaurant but when they bring your food you are for a rude awakening 🤣
The only OK restaurant was the hibachi and you needed a reservation.
Also there is no drink service at the beach neither!
We have been going to many all inclusive hotels , mostly in Mexico, less to DR but this hotel is the worst so far and unfortunately the most expensive! I feel cheated that I felt for the reviews of this hotel, not sure how could anyone give this hotel 5 stars! Maybe 3 the most!
Unless this is your first trip ever!
There were few employees that were very nice and helpful ( Milosi, Santos) and the floor concierges but mostly, people who work there are not very friendly and don’t seem to like their job or care.
We did make the best of our vacations by enjoying the beach and taking lots of walks around the resort and the beach.
We will not return here and not recommend staying here to anyone!

This was our third stay in Dominican Republic. The first two we stayed at Excellence but decided to try something new this time. We used the transport through the hotel which was convenient. No issues with the check in process. Rooms were nice, we did ocean view with butler which really has a corner ocean view.

Victor and Cesar were our butlers. They checked in daily to see what we needed and coordinated our spa reservations as well. They were very responsive any time we had questions and you will also see them throughout the day around the resort. They also setup the jacuzzi tub for us and decorated the room for us. They did a great job.

Food was good, no complaints. We did the surf and turf, Italian, French, beach buffet and the main buffet. The main buffet could use some more options. The main buffet also opens for dinner some nights for different themes (Italian, Mexican, etc.). We did not try the Japanese or Dominican. You also have the option to eat and explore at the other 4 resorts. We went to the one with the casino one night and we to the shops during the day.

To get to the beach you have to walk a bit. We preferred the layout of excellence since it was more beach front very easy to get everywhere (but also a smaller resort). The pool is usually busy and pool cabanas fill up quickly. But you can usually find a spot at the beach no problem. You should definitely take a walk down the beach (either way) because it is a very beautiful beach. This was our first experience with seaweed there but if we walked a bit we could find clear spots.

I read a lot of reviews and watched videos about the timeshare and how they were pushy on that. Didn’t have that issue. Everyone was pretty friendly.

We liked the snacks at the lobby bar and Brandon was a great bartender there.

The night entertainment was ehh. I saw on the app they had a theatre but it said closed everyday. I didn’t get a chance to ask if that was something under renovation or not. But most of the time the entertainment was in the lobby in a very small area. One night they did do a show on the boat which was better. Day entertainment they do have people walking around for different things to do.

Overall it was a good experience. Grounds are very well kept and the beach is very nice.

Had a great stay celebrating each other. The staff was amazing, the drinks were very good, and we thoroughly enjoyed playing golf. It was fun exploring the other Iberostar resorts on the property, but hands down the grand barbvo is the place to be.

Room tip: Take advantage of everything the resort offers
