After a really long time I got to visit the place again and was really pleased to see things improved. Considering the isolation the place is ran in a very efficient way by the Amaya family. Definitely the area is beautiful and the location of PMP is ideal. Great beach on a short walking distance, closeness to the national park.
Mario does a great job in logistic and effective communication.
I got to sleep in the masters house, a true honor. That’s their distinctive going beyond expectations, I repeat despite the isolation of the area.

We knew it would be basic which it was. .We had two rooms together in one house, not far away from the bar (not too noisy). Tons of animals around, monkeys, ants, butterflies, birds, everything. The boat trip to PMP was an adventure ... and the landing. Be prepared: do not take all your luggage in a huge suitcase to this place because there are no streets, no paths, there is sand and no landing place, things have to be carried. We gave our luggage and car to the office and just took what we needed during our stay. (you should have seen the mess in the boat with all the huge luggage and then finding out which one belongs to whom). Nothing fell in the water but almost .. and one guy got wet allover. Therefor: be prepared, barefooted and use a plastic bag for your luggage as well.
Food was ok, service very friendly and Mario was just a great guy. Consuelo as well, she had always a smile at her face. We did the Corcovado tour with her which was great.
We had heavy rain during these days - the rain was almost warmer than the water in the rooms (yes, no hot water). But it was a simple and nice way to live, without WLAN, just basics. Our kids loved it as well.

The accomodation is very basic. Fairly uncomfortable beds, only cold water and during the rainy season chances are high that you'll encounter an electricity blackout during your stay.
Nevertheless the place is amazing because of it's unique location - it's so remote that there is no phone coverage in the area. We got there by a fairly small boat, departing from Sierpe. The first part of the boat trip (45 min's) takes you through the Mangrove forest, following the Sierpe river, home of the crocodile. The second part (also 45 min's) is on the sea. Getting past the breaking point of the (big) waves upon entering and leaving the ocean is a real adventure! We where lucky enough to see whales during our return trip.
During our stay at Poor Man's, we did a day trip to the Corcovado national park (a must-do). More trips are available on request.
The food is ok, the staff is friendly, the cocktail-bar is great and the sunset at the beach is amazing! If you don't mind giving in on luxury and comfort, this will be an experience you'll never forget!

Spent two nights here and what excellent value for money it was.
We arrived by boat and the surf ride in, straight on to the beach, was an experience not to be missed.
The accommodation is basic, but it was what we were expecting. Cold showers a god send in the humidity, but not a problem. All the staff were friendly and helpful and Consuela in the kitchen served us up some tremendous fish dishes with the fish we'd caught (the fish soup and the crevice were amazing).
Wildlife abounds all over the resort, monkeys, toucans, tapirs, butterflies and birds everywhere.
This resort is remote and it's this remoteness that makes it such a wildlife haven.
A thoroughly enjoyable and unforgettable stay.

It really is what is says on the write up... it's in the middle of nowhere and you can really switch off!
No wifi, no phone signal, just desolate beaches and jungle. Capuchin monkeys passing through at breakfast, hawks flying through the trees, waves crashing along the shore... it really is paradise.. however there's a few points worth noting before you arrive.
You cannot pay by credit card... no wifi or phone signal means no payment is possible on site. You can however pay at their office in Sierope as you leave, if you're not planning to leave via there then make sure you have ample cash. Beware, there are no costs advertised on meals or drinks so at least keep tabs before you leave. Saying that nothing seemed overly expensive as we paid our bill.
The meals are set each lunchtime and evening, they will of course accommodate any dietary requirements should you need but for the rest of us it's one set meal for everyone. We however had no complaints about any of them. There's a small menu for breakfast which again was tasty.
It is very chilled there and there is no formalities around check in or check out it would seem, staff are friendly however do not always remember who you are if you haven't partaken in their trips that they offer.
There is no air con in the rooms so it is pretty balmy at night and because you are amidst palm trees and jungle we often were woken up by coconuts crashing down on the roof at various hours!
It was a lovely place quite far from Drake Bay which we appreciated. It's a 25 min walk from Playa San Joscito which is the nearest beach for swimming due to the rip tides, another 15 mins from there you can get to Rio Claro which is good for kayaking trips. From Drake Bay you need either a boat for about $20 per person or by car we found a taxi for $30 which took us to the top of the hill which was a 5 min walk down to the hotel.

PMP is just fine to calm down and get basic. No Internet, no cell phones, not hot water, no nothing. Just the beach, some cabins, a bar and the restaurant.

Rooms/Cabins can be of different quality, so make sure you have booked correctly.
    Food is ok, nothing fancy.

Mario, who is the responsible manager, is very friendly and always ready to help or organize anything. All staff where very friendly.

It is a rating of 4 only, because the place is a little rundown and they do not use the beach for activities. It would have been paradise if they open up a simple beach bar in the evening. People would be very happy and spend more money. Win-win.
