Positive: Location, views, close to Sunwapta falls (great short hike, beautiful falls), Servers, front desk staff excellent and very friendly/accommodating. Food (dinner) was nice, no highflyers, but reasonably priced and tasty (same daily special for the 4 nights we stayed there). Good beer and wine selection.
The bad: Breakfast, very limited choice, no variation, cold scrambled eggs most mornings, Decaf was cold, Oatmeal and sauce were poor. Again, staff was great! (good selection of bread and pastries)
This hotel is not cheap (over $325 canadian), so considering the location we gladly paid it, but then you walk into the rooms..... we had two adjoining.
Because of the thin walls we could hear everything in a 4 room adjoining wall block.... The rooms were tired, you would not stay there in a motel 6 if you had to. grinchy, dark, 60ies wallpaper, floors were yucky.... (bed was clean and comfortable). Due to shortage of personnel (we guess, as Covid has passed us by, by now) , no HK service, (but you could get as many coffee/towels etc from front desk, so not an issue for us)
2023, even though they have Starlink pro, the distribution system was still old (and/or poorly configured) only 'ok' internet was in the reception area and dining room/bar. (2-3 mbs). In the rooms, no internet at all, and we were very close to the reception. (And don't come with the excuse that we are there to switch off from daily life... Internet is a basic need now.)
TV, 10 channels, not even local, very poor reception, TV's were over 10 years old or more. small, bad picture, bad sound.
No cell phone reception, so without cell phone and internet in the rooms, we felt this was a safety issue (we could not contact out, nor our family could reach us...)
So, all in all, a disappointing visit, we had a fantastic time, as long as we did not get in our room or had breakfast.
Sunwapta resort, you can do better, you are sitting on a prime location!! these things are easy to fix.

We love the location. It’s very isolated but has all the features and amenities you need. The restaurant has delicious food. The continental breakfast is to die for. It has a great variety of morning food.

The pluses here were the location on the Icefield Parkway and the fact that the reception staff were all pleasant and did their best. Also, the lodge though very basic was at least clean. Beyond that matters go downhill fast. Everything in the restaurant is a complete rip-off e.g. sandwiches are close to C$20 and the (very limited) menu is similarly extremely expensive. It is clear that the complex is in business terms run as a cash cow e.g. the reception has a limited number of microwaves and kettles available for those wishing for one instead of these being standard throughout. The food quality is extremely poor and the breakfast is the worst we have ever experienced - unvarying and stingy in nature: porridge made with water for instance. The low-point for me was that one morning the fruit choice comprised 3 extremely green bananas that were so green they could not be peeled and were near inedible. On leaving the breakfast room though I noticed some nice ripe yellow bananas being sold at an incredible price in the shop so the following morning I asked for ripe bananas to be provided and someone transferred some from the shop. However, I should not have had to ask.....Another morning my wife noticed someone being given bacon and sausage along with the usual low grade scrambled egg and hash browns and asked for some too but was told in no uncertain terms that the persons in receipt of this unusual luxury had paid extra for them in advance! One other point: the lodges needed updating a decade ago and are badly lacking in power points. Going to Mount Robson Inn in Jasper with its quality accommodation and good breakfasts was akin to transferring from a 1 star establishment to a 4 star one. My better half took such a dim view of this place that she dubbed it "The Dump". In summary, the convenient location comes at a very high price and this is one of those cases where one Cannot Recommend A Purchase.
Room tip: Stay in the car and travel a bit further.

Very nice hotel and a great location. There are not many options to spend the night on the Icefields Parkway. This one has a great restaurant and includes a continental breakfast. They have a takeaway counter for quick eats and a small gift shop. It is a quick drive to the Sunwapta Falls parking lot. We enjoyed our stay at Sunwapta.

Not a great experience. The walls are so thin you can hear the neighbors talking, coughing and even snoring. The wi fi only works in the office/restaurant, the tv only has 5-6 channels and doesn’t always come in. The breakfast buffet doesn’t include any meat, if you want bacon or sausage you have to pay extra, I travel frequently and I’ve never experienced that. The bathrooms need updating as well, it felt like I was showering in a 1973 Winnebago.

Location inside Jasper Park is very nice. Restaurant at the more expensive side but this is the only around. We stayed in a lodge. They gave us one right beside the generator which made continuous noice and also smell of exhaust gases. Not what we imagined when booking a lodge inside the park. We could also not sit outside because there was only space for 1 chair on the patio whereas all other rooms had sufficient space for 2. Rooms are very basic and not maintained well. Complimentary breakfast is ok but not more than that. For this price (count on more than 300CAD per night) you would expect a bit better quality.
