This was our 2nd trip to Mexico, 2018 being the first, staying at the Bahia Principe, so was hoping for the same quality, or better. I have held off the review as giving TUI a chance to restore my faith in the company, unfortunately it came to nothing, so here goes! I did a lot of research but was going with 2 other families, (6 adults 4 kids, age between 11-15) decided in this due to reading reviews on here and price.(7k for 4 of us in summer hols-10 days)
On coming home I read the ‘bad’ reviews that are very accurate. Wish I had done that before booking!!
The main problem was a serious security breach on our final day. My wife left her Apple Watch on charge while we went for breakfast, on return to our room our door was open and a ‘cleaner’ came out asking when we was leaving. We told him in about 2 hours and went to the pool for final rays of sun. On return to get our stuff the watch was missing and using the ‘find my phone’app located it tucked under the sheet covering the divan, below the mattress!!! We called security gave a statement and was told they would get back to us, we then had to dash for the bus to the airport. To cut a long story short as we didn’t inform the tui rep, they were not interested either.
Although promised of a follow up response from the hotel, nothing came. Looking at other low star reviews this is not uncommon with money being taken from the safe also(gawd knows how??!)
On top that, these are the other bad (and good) points of the resort.
1)The plastic cups at the beach bars that are swilled in what looks like dirty water for washing up during the day(one drink I had I could taste Pernod in, even though it was a Gin and Tonic!) This I believe to be the reason most of our party of ten had diarrhoea at some point in the holiday.
(2) The main pool is exceptionally scummy most of the day, with a cleaner going around with a dustpan scooping the scum off during the day. Obviously the filter is totally inadequate
(3) The hotel staff driving the golf buggies do so at full speed making people nervous about being hit.
(4) The cost in the shops is ridiculous, £6.50 for a bag of crisps, £14 for a small ball (that we had to buy as the kids were bored- lack of entertainment for teenagers)
(5) The buffet for breakfast and lunch was good, but in the evening was of poor standard, with long queues and starters and dessert platters in between main platters, so people were milling around everywhere. ******In contrast, the a la carte restaurants were very good, and the highlight for us.*****
(6) The evening entertainment in the sports bar could not be seen as all seats were taken, and being in an area that was not air conditioned, was unbearable anyhow, and there is no entertainment anywhere else at night, leaving children and adults bored. Needless to say, we will not return, and will seriously consider not going on a tui holiday again!!
