Good Family Holiday

My family and I spent two weeks at BlueBay in December. When we arrived after our 45 minute transfer, we were offered a complimentary drink and only had to wait a couple of minutes to check in. We paid the eco resort tax which worked out to be approximately £14, and I was ready to give a polite but firm no towards any sales pitch, but this never came.

We were given a room in block 6 on the top floor, facing towards the quiet pool (although this cant be seen). We walked to the room and our suitcases arrived a short while later. The room was a decent size, with two double beds which were made up daily with towel art. There was a flat screen TV although it was poor quality, as the screen only showed images in pink and green, but still useable for the kids to watch cartoons. The bathroom was a reasonable size with a walk in shower and two sinks, although both plugs tended to get stuck if we tried to use them. The room is showing some signs of wear, but was fine for our stay. The only real downside was the noise from the corridor outside, be it either the maids trolleys, noisy guests late at night or the fire alarm going off one night for no apprent reason!

All pools have been recently resurfaced (the quiet pool only opened on our last day), and were fine to use; there were plenty of sun loungers available, althouhg as others have mentioned they could do with more shade. The pool/beach bar was great, with all staff being pleasant and attentive. We also found the staff at Jaal-Ha to be lovely, making a fuss of our kids and recognising us by bring our drinks over without asking. One thing to note: they no longer offer single use plastic straws, so we took our own reuseable ones and some sterilising tablets with us, which we used for the kids and cocktails.

The beach, as mentioned by others, is disappointing; they are clearly doing everything they possibly can to try and rectify this, but we didnt venture into the sea at all. However, a ten minute walk to the left brings you to a small lagoon with clear water which was perfect for swimming in.

The entertainment was great, you could join in with as little or as much as you wanted, with no pressure from staff. The shows in the evenings were generally good, and the kids clubs were great, with the kids getting to join in with lots of games. Only thing I would say is that it can sometimes be a little late for the younger ones, but ours enjoyed staying up for it.

Wildlife was great! We loved seeing the coatis, iguanas, deer, raccoons and all sorts of other wildlife. The coatis are clearly quite domesticated as people often feed them, but left you alone if you ignored them.

Overall we had a great holiday, there were a few small issues, but nothing that would stop us from returning for the right price.

My wife and I have visited Riviera Maya Mexico 9 times in the last 12 years and returned home very happy until this stay at the Bluebay. Never again ever.
We paid for the VIP package and the swim out suite. There was nothing VIP about this place.
The tub had black foot prints all over the inside when we arrived and was partly filled with water. When ever the tub was being used on the second floor above ours, water would run down the wall from above filling our tub. You could see that the tub above our had been leaking on our ceiling and running down our wall for a long period of time
The stand up shower sprayer head didn't supply enough water to shower

We had two AC units on the top of the wall, one in each room. The first evening we returned to the room to find water leaking from the AC all over the floor. The second evening, the second AC did the same but this time it was dark in the room and my wife slipped and fell to the wet floor and bruised her knee badly. Both walls below the AC unit have water stains running down the wall along with peeling paint so this is an ongoing issue.

We were only supplied with two bath towels. No hand towels, wash cloths, shower floor towel or soaps until day 4.

TV dint work

We have never got sick in the 9 weeks over the years until this visit. Both my wife and I got sick with diarrhea on our last day and it lasted 5 days.

They don't clean tables between guest

There are so many places nicer than the Bluebay and much cleaner at the same price.

We went March of last year , Im just getting around to writing my review now. 25 of us travelled to mexico for a bunch of different events. Birthdays, an engagement and some just because!
so here is my review

The hotel....is pretty nice...the grounds were fairly big so at night when your wearing a nice dress and heels you had to take a shuttle to the restaurants.
Rooms were nice and clean

Food. There wasn't a whole lot of choices for a la carte. we ate at the steak house most nights and the one night our steaks were great; unfortunately the next they werent so good.
Buffets were good. lots of selection. Food was basically the same every lunch
I loved my guac and chips so i really stuck to that every day for lunch

Drinks . Its Mexico so its whatever they have on tap and bottom line shelf alcohol. So if you dont mind your drinks tasting like nail polish remover then your all good
personally i stuck to vodka for the week
Coffee is HORRIBLE and dont even bother going to the night buffett, it was a joke !

entertainment. This hotel completely lacked in entertainment. Thank heavens we had people to hang out with as by 10 pm the hotel was dead

NO lobby bar or coffee bar which was very disappointing

I cant say this was the food or drinks but 3 of our guests were very sick
one got rushed to the hospital. I wasnt there when he was transported but from what my other friends have said, front staff was not very helpful.
He spent hours in emerg and it cost him 2 thousand dollars for IV and medication. He had a parasite.
The other two friends who were sick weren't as bad but lost 2 days of their vacation.

I tripped over uneven concrete ( no i was not drinking tequila) cut my lip and the resort wanting 100 dollars to look at my lip. Thankfully a nurse nearby looked at it and said no stitches were necessary so I didn't bother.

I travel a couple of times a year and I cant say Ii'd come back to this resort again.

Had a wonderful time during the visit , the staff were attentive, premises and rooms very clean , the only negatives we had was 1) no snack bar close to pool /beach area, 2) the travel to lobby to reserve a restaurant daily became a chore , would have been nice to have a concierge at site by the rooms close to beach

We stayed at this hotel 8 nights from Dec 25 to January 02, 2020 a group of 9 people in 4 rooms. We all agree it lacks the qualification for a 5 star hotel. The rooms are quite outdated, the bathroom in particular seems to fall apart (the tub faucet separated from the wall which was a bit disgusting. The air conditioning wasn't working properly in 3 of our 4 rooms. We complained on the first day and they sent the technician but it was left running the same, so we opted for not calling again since the fan was working fine and it wasn't too bad for us (i didn't want to risk it and get an even worse room!). Food was very good, not enough fish though; I would have loved more fish and less beef and pork but it was manageable. Drinks were excellent with brands and good quality liquor. Facilities were quite good, especially the pool, for people who like being by the pool rather than the ocean. And talking about the beach, oh well, the worst i've seen in a long time. It has a barrier of some sort that blocks the algae (and the view to the ocean!) and it has a mixed of sandy/rocky soil that is very uncomfortable. The good thing is we found a river in the resort next door and were able to enjoy the beautiful ocean and water there. Staff was very respectful and hard working. For the amount of money that we paid, i would not recommend this hotel in Riviera Maya.

Our family of 4 stayed at BB the New Year's Eve of 2020 for a week, and we had a good time. We stayed in building 4, which I would recommend, being close to the pools and the beach, and a smaller buffet lunch restaurant that converts into a steak house and seafood restaurants for dinner. While the lobby and other restaurants including the main buffet are a 10 minute walk away, as it is a large resort, we did not miss that at all. The staff is very friendly and helpful, Chino from the Scuba place easily the best scuba diving instructor we have had a pleasure of dealing with, helped our two kids get a PADI certificate in the most friendly and yet professional way. Lots on coattis, pelicans, raccoons, iguanas, so if you love animals it is a place for you. Very nice landscaping. Suggested improvements - the music is way too loud and there is nowhere to keep away from it. Pool, beach areas are close together and whatever is being played by the pool pretty much all the time is loud everywhere. Our room could use some fretting up. Buffet food is rather boring and monotonous, while restaurants are better. The beach is not the best. There are numerous wave breakers erected, that look very unfinished, and are. Obviously plenty of storm damage. All in all a nice, relaxing visit, thank you.

Room tip: Building 4 with 3rd floor room overlooking the garden was perfect for us. Elevator there so no issues with walking up the stairs.
