Hotel is artfully integrated into the jungle, so it is indeed an eco resort. You will meet coating, raccoons, spider monkeys and other animals round the clock. That includes mosquitoes: swamps are part of hotel ecosystem, so if you decide to hang out in a bar - use mosquitoe repellent dispensers that are placed throughout the property.
Beach is very nice, shaded by palm trees. But entering the water is painful: bottom is all rocks, so some sort of swimming shoes are recommended to avoid scratches. Water remains shallow all the way to the safety line, with rock ridges going underwater along the shore.
Staff honestly does their best to serve guests, but whatever management there is does not help them succeed. There were 3 of us staying, but we always got 2 sets of towels despite alerting staff upon arrival. That's a management issue because how would a housekeeper know how many guests are staying?
Expect a 30-minute line to check in / out. Really no e-checkout??? Booking a la carte restaurants requires standing in line. Not only a bad practice during covid, but can be replaced with online booking, allowing to put an FTE to a better use. BTW, a la carte restaurants are not impressive, so don't waste your time booking. Main restaurant serves food that is as good or better.
Covid testing is on-site, included with the stay. Again, expect to stay in line for about an hour even if you are making an appointment.
We stayed in a suite. Something to know about that type of room: there is no door between the bedroom and the couch, something I failed to realize when booking. Otherwise the 'adults only' suit is more spacious than a family room and is worth the money.
