Adult section review. Not a luxurious hotel, but a fantastic and fun resort!

Reviewed Jan 4, 2020via mobile
Our family stayed 6 nights in 4 adult only select section rooms. Rooms are basic and clean. They could use an update. We didn’t mind because we didn’t spend much time in the rooms. The grounds are lovely, so much to see and do. Check in was easy, and didn’t take much time. I booked a private transfer for the 8 of us through Canada Transfers, cost 120.00 round trip, so we didn’t have to get off some shuttle with 50 other people! We loved the adult only section! We had breakfast every morning by the adult only pool, and there was never a wait. The food selection was good(menu and buffet) mimosas, baileys and coffee, cappuccino really anything you’d want. Service was very good as well. The adult only pool was very quiet and beautiful, we are beach people and spent most of our time at the beach Yes, it’s a little rocky, but there are walk ways that you can enter the ocean, and not need water shoes! The adult only beach has chairs, beds, Bali beds, palm trees, shaded and sunny areas. We never had an issue with finding a spot. The adult only beach area has a private building with towels, a bar, appetizers, bathrooms, showers, lockers, and a pool table. They also have beach servers for drinks. We did check out the spa. My personal observation was the staff was a bit rude. I didn’t book anything there, and a good thing too, because we had amazing massages on the beach with then ocean breeze with the sound of the waves crashing for 30.00! They bargain, my husband got one for 20.00! The restaurants were good, book the Japanese restaurant on arrival! We stayed 6 nights and got a reservation our last night at 9pm! It was great! Monica was our chef and she was brilliant! Brazilian restaurant was good too, Miguel and Fernando made our night! Really great service from them. The resort has top shelf liquor, you just need to call it. “ Don Julio” tequila or whatever you like. All and all a fantastic vacation spot! Again, not luxurious, but pretty darn great! The staff was absolutely fantastic from the housekeeping staff, bartenders, and servers. Oh, and the shows are amazing.. lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, flipping fantastic! FYI- Store’s there are ridiculously expensive so bring plenty of sunscreen, bug spray, and snacks. One more thing, the sales people call your room every morning around 8am, after reading many reviews on trip advisor I just didn’t answer. I never took “advantage “ of there free tour or sales pitch😂 I recommend a visit. I’ll be back!

First the pluses: When we first arrived, we were wow’d by the trails, cenotes and lush vegetation. This is definitely a plus of this place, it’s something really special and beautiful. Our room, in the Select adults only area, was clean, comfortable and really pleasant. Our favourite things about this place are the natural setting and how nice our room was. I also liked the option of the smaller adults only pool.

The minuses: We found out the airport transportation we reserved in advanced is three times the cost of a taxi to the airport in Cancun. Major bummer. The food was disappointing. Having just come from a comparable all inclusive resort nearby, the difference was obvious. Additionally, and this is a deal breaker for us, there were constant lines to get into any of the restaurants. The beach was also disappointing since it was so rocky it was hard to get in and swim, and we were approached so nonstop by people wanting to sell us stuff (I don’t blame them!) but we actually got up and left after an hour. Perhaps the most disappointing experience was with the salesman who did the presentation we agreed to listen to about their membership program. We agreed to sign up for a cash gift incentive and were promised it would be “no pressure.” When we were clear with the salesman that we would not be signing any deal with him, he was rude and actually made a show of not shaking either of our hands when we were nothing but open and friendly with him the whole time. His energy turned us off so much that sealed the deal for us about this place.

Do not use the resort transportation service. They’ll charge you more than double of the regular cab fees. Food quality was average. No seafood other than just fish. No good quality of steak available.

We are currently staying at the hotel. We are on our third day and have been without a sunbed every day. Lots of empty beds but people have reserved them with towels. We had a couple of problems with our room which were sorted promptly. The waiting and sunbeds really let this hotel down which is a shame.

We're currently at the hotel. Family of 5.
Staying a week between Christmas and New Year Eve.
The PARK: Beautiful, very clean, tons of animals.
The BEACH: Pretty but rocky (come prepared and buy water shoes before your stay), very busy (other guests, lack of chairs and constant solicitation for Mani pedi spa picture bracelet glasses... Hard to relax).
The MAIN POOL: busy, hard to get a chair. People "reserve" spot in putting towels on them. I wish management could reinforce rules and just pick up towels!
The STAFF (from the front desk to the cooks to the servers to the cleaning crew...): extremely nice. They make your stay good because they are the real deal and they work their butt off. Wow.
The FOOD: blank. A few dish were tasty, the rest of the food we found very "safe". Nice selection of fruits, breads, deserts (tasteless so sad because they are beautiful!), meats, pizzas ( fresh from the oven!) , salads... You name it. Breakfast is great. If you have little kids, stick to the buffet (Laguna)for choice and wait. We've experienced waiting times of +30 minutes for a table and overworked staff. Finally, I suggest the management to mark all dish with what they contain (meat, no meat??). Also why not leaving water/coffee on tables? Because of the lack of staff, we sometimes got coffee at the end of Breakfast. Don't blame the servers they were working like crazy.
The ROOMS: not disappointed with the standard room (king bed) and were given the option of a crib or the sofa bed for our kid. Room pretty clean, done every day no complains. My folks didn't get their room cleaned (bed, towels) twice. Our common problem had been the safe not working. Not a big deal yet you have to wait and can spend several hours in your room for the person to come.
The MAIN LOBBY: check in was extremely looooooong. At least a good
hour (3 employees, maybe 10 people before us). There is always a queue so for anything you need, you'll have to wait.

DEAL BREAKER: - we didn't know better, now we know!!"
> once the check in was done, we sat down with a person who showed us a map of the resort and explained that the next day we would have (a free - ???) breakfast and free gifts (said it a dozen times) while watching a presentation on the facilities and all they have to offer and " hopefully fall in love" with the
resort and come back. The next day, phone call to remind us to meet at the reception at 9 am , with our ID and Credit card to start receiving good deals and promotions. We didn't take any because we were not interested. Oh my... My husband went back 3 times to the room as the person insisted to have our IDs and CC. And I said several times that we were happy to see the presentation but had no interest in receiving "deals" we needed to see what it was about, lost cause. We then sat with
another person in the back who repeated 3 more times what free gifts we were getting. It was at least 10 am at this point. We answered some general questions and then we got ...
- the whole family must sit together, I said no, my parents do NOT speak English/Spanish.
- how old are you? I said why? ( They had the IDs afterall)
- how long have you been living in the US? ( I'm a resident ). I said why do you need to know this? She said for data. I said that was personal.
- can you get your credit card? My
husband said that was it, she said it
was a debit and she needed our CC..we
said no, she got up and called her
boss. It was surreal!!
I was about to pass out from no food (+ 21 weeks pregnant) my kid was screaming with boredoms and hunger, my folks (75 yo) were still waiting for us... And they were still insisting!! The manager finally said that they could recontact us later bla bla and we were like yes ok let's go eat!!! It was almost 11 am.

I PROMISED TO MYSELF THAT I WOULD WRITE SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BECAUSE IT WAS UNNECESSARY AND A HUGE DEAL BREAKER WITH THIS RESORT FOR US. ON DAY ONE.
We have never had this kind of
experience before in any country/hotel we have had the chance to go to so beware. Unbelievable.

Pluses: the staff, the park and the animals, the beauty of the site.
Minuses: aggressive sale technique, inconsistencies in food/cleaning, waiting lines.
