Villa Aldora - my home away from home

Review of Villa Aldora
Reviewed 2 weeks ago
Spending a few weeks at the Villa…it is like returning home! Been coming to this great “hotel” for over 20 years and it is fabulous! Great pool, onsite dive boat pickup, a variety of room types and sizes, complementary use of bikes, a friendly and helpful staff and a sweet snorkel/dive site right in front of the property.

Created and run for divers by a diving family, Villa Aldora is my land-based diving liveaboard in Cozumel!
Date of stay: June 2024
Room Tip: Book in advance…they can get busy!! They’re very nice about changing reservations if needed.

Betzy manages a lovely, laid back, spotless seaside villa. It is quiet. Our room, the Cameron, had a full kitchen, two large queen beds, a/c, fan. It did not have windows that looked out on the sea but there are rooms that do. There is a white board that tells you what dive boat you are on, the following day. Usually posted at 8pm. (If you are using Aldora DIvers) Early am, enjoy your coffee on the palapa, Moira, the resident beagle will greet you, and the boat will pick you up. There are 3 resturants within walking distance, The cab is $7 USD to central square. There are bicycles which I used to bike 3 miles to the MEGA store that has everything, groceries, clothing, sundries, and the bike has a basket on it, too.
There is daily housekeeping, plenty of towels, coffee for the coffee pot and a large purified water jug, in the room. A rinse tank, hangars for drying gear, and an infinity pool. Bonus is some decent snorkelling right from the shore ladder.
Rodrigo, delivered a cheap rent a car to us. The floors are tile, so take caution when you are dripping. Common to humid climates are the teeny tiny almost invisible ants, we kept everything in the fridge to discourage them. Cozumel has an antiquated sewer system. Human waste is all that flushes in the toilets, everything else goes in the trash.

Room tip: If you want a balcony or seaview, ask which rooms have that. definitely, stock up on groceries, snacks, drinks at the MEGA

Just returned from a wonderful stay at Villa Aldora while diving with Aldora Divers.
Stayed in the North Suite....bi-level 2 Bedrooms.... Great location atop a reef. Terrrific staff led by Betzy ....very clean, well-outfitted and comfortable. Housekeeping every day. Spotless grounds with patio, "beach", pool, rinse tanks and hanging area for dive gear. Pickups by Aldora Divers at the dock. Easy taxi to town....bikes available.
Already booked for my next trip!!

We stayed at Villa Aldora for a weeklong girl's getaway, and had the best time! Perfectly situated on the north shore, with direct access to the turquoise water where we could snorkel whenever we felt like it was just amazing. We saw such an array of cool fish and the colourful coral was especially visible in the late afternoon along the iron shore rock wall. The Villa is so cute and kept very clean - it was so nice to lounge around under or around the Palapa and sandy "beach" with palm trees and hammocks. Betzy was a great host and we really enjoyed her complimentary guac and beer party, and chatting with other guests! We made use of the complimentary bikes one day and cycled to Buccanos for a beach club day.

We anticipated taking a taxi to and from town for dinner, but ended up walking both directions almost every night. We felt totally safe and it was a nice walk with a local feel - we stopped a few times at one of the 3 beach bars on the way - Hemingways (great music) and La Monina, and the third which closed early so we didn't make it. Depending on where we went, walk to dinner was 20 - 30 minutes. We especially enjoyed K'ooben Laab, Buccanos, Chela Nah, La Cocay and Azul Madera.

Highly recommend the free walking tour with Tati on Thursday mornings at 9:45 am - she was amazing! I'll write a separate review.

Highly recommend staying at Villa Aldora in Cozumel!

5 stars across the board for Villa Aldora. I cannot say enough great things about my 7-night stay. We were 5 minutes from the center of Cozumel and all the great restaurants. The grounds were pristine. Always clean and always safe. The reef right off the dock was amazing. From snorkel gear to full tanks for a dive, it was all right there, anytime anyone staying there wanted to take advantage, 24/7. I’m not sure that any other hotel on the island has anything comparable. I also went scuba diving with Aldora Divers, which was equally magnificent. We were picked up at the dock at 7:30 every morning and dropped off after every dive. Free nitrox was also a great bonus. I can’t wait to go back. Betzy and her staff are phenomenal.

Room tip: Book early!

Visited Cozumel to get open water scuba certification. Had a wonderful stay at Villa Aldora. The villa is very safe and secure. The bed was so comfortable. The staff was fantastic. The water dispenser in the room was very appreciated. The villa is very clean and beautiful. The free bikes make riding into town to get supplies a breeze. There were also several great restaurants close by (Hemingways and La Aldea). The snorkeling was fantastic (saw a turtle, an eagle ray, several other rays and tons of fish). The inifinity pool is beautiful and provides a great way to cool off. The view and the sunsets are magnificent. It is paradise! I wish I was there now.

Room tip: Use the bikes to ride to ride into town and go to crazy king burrito! Get some of the wonderful bread/bakery items from MEGA
