I visited the Oleo in late March 2024. This was my first ever trip to Cancun and my first ever experience at an all-inclusive hotel.
I had read and heard many different opinions of all-inclusive options in general, with many giving low marks, or at least dings to the quality of food, drinks, and amenities, due to the 'endless' nature of it. In addition, I have worked some years at 5-star hotels that are part of the "Leading Hotels of the World." (LHW) This is not to say I'm some big connoisseur of hotels, but I am familiar with the standards of service that are required to be part of that exclusive class of hotels.
With those details in mind, I was excited to see both how this hotel measured up to the standards I've been trained in, and how the experience of an all-inclusive hotel would be like for its cost.
I must start by saying that I was extremely satisfied and happy with my experience at the Oleo. The staff were so friendly and attentive to us, and really made us feel special. They effortlessly applied the main principles of the standards of the LHW, which focus on taking the extra step to give service.
Some examples of this included:
1. I could ask anyone regardless of their position within the hotel about a question or problem and I would be helped by them, not just told to ask someone else.
2. Many of the staff made the effort to learn our names and use them. Some would even get to know us more personally and make the experience more special for us. Raul in the bar was a great example of this. He gave me excellent service and made me feel like more than just another one of the many hundreds of guests he has certainly met prior. Other great staff members I'd like to mention are Alberto in the reception, Roger at Alma restaurant, and Yeseli at Azul restaurant. They really took the extra step to give great service!
3. They resolved any problems I had quickly. Our toilet unfortunately had been semi-clogged by the guests who had been in our room before. But it took very little time from when I mentioned it to the hotel staff to the problem being fixed. We also had 1 person in our group who has a strong gluten allergy, and they did everything they could to adjust for her, even going so far as to changing their frying oil a couple of times when she wanted to have some French fries on different days, all with a smile on their face.
With regards to the quality of the food and drink, this hotel also scores high. They have a wide array of options across their 5 food concepts, and no limits on the restaurant visits or reservations required. I would say that I preferred the drinks at the lobby bar than those at the pool side /swim up bar. But maybe it was just that great service from Raul and Antonio in the lobby bar that made those drinks hit different.
All in all, we were very satisfied with our stay at the Oleo. I would definitely recommend it to others and will definitely return myself if I come back to Cancun one day.
