The Perfect Vacation to Reset the Mind,Soul and Body

Reviewed Apr 27, 2022via mobile
The Oleo Hotel was the perfect choice for me. Upon arrival i was welcomed by Ismael, who arranged a beverage while i waited to check in. (Ismael was instrumental in helping me navigate public transportation and purchasing affordable gifts for my grandkids) While waiting, I was engaged in good conversation with Christian who was smart and interested in learning about what i was looking forward to experiencing. After a brief wait, Juan checked me in and helped me get acclimated to what the hotel had to offer. He told me about my room and i got excited.
Christian escorted me to an elevator, where we went to the ninth floor and then up a curvy little stairwell. I liked that there were only four other rooms on the floor and was a very quiet location. What surprised me? A terrace that was almost as large as my room with a 180 degree view of both the lagoon and sea, it was exquisite!

I like to organize myself when i get to a destination and the room had excellent storage and i quickly unpacked, and slipped into a suit and within ten minutes i was sitting on the beach and and being asked what i would like to drink and eat. Not much of a drinker during the day, but for those who enjoy a cooling cocktail this is nirvana (and part of the all inclusive plan).

I ordered the fish tacos and they did not disappoint!

Spent some time swimming and jumping the waves, before heading back to my room for a shower and a quick siesta, after all this was a vacation.

The Oleo has many food options, there is Azul, a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there is El Botanero, a beach cafe down by the pool and Almar ( Mediterranean cuisine) and Hakka (Asian inspired cuisine), two restaurants that serve dinner. There is also 24 hour room service and a couple of other grab and go restaurants and a bar in the lobby. (I did not visit the lobby eateries)

I walked down to Almar for an early dinner around 6pm (7pm EST) and was seated at a window table overlooking the sea. Carlos and Alejandro provided incredible service and care, helping me choose items that i would enjoy and accommodating my dietary needs.
(See some of my favorites from Almar in photos)

Mornings included
walks on the beach at sunrise, listening to the birds, collecting shells. A walk back past the pool area to head up to Azul for an omelet created by Mary or a freshly made tortilla, turned into a morning quesadilla by Roberto and of course a delicious cup of coffee. I surprised myself by making a salad with fresh veggies as well each morning, a tradition i may continue at home. AND the fruit…yummy.

The second night i went to Hakka and every other night after that for the duration of my trip! Yovana greeted me each time and sat me by a window with a lovely view. Marcelino, Juan and Crispin provided incredible service and made suggestions which i loved! My most favorite dish of the week was a raw salmon dish (ceviche), but so many tasty delights created by the chefs, Mitzi, Alejandro, Javier and Jose.
(See photos)
What can not be under valued, the gifts from Mother Nature. Incredible sunsets, waves crashing and the clouds and colors. ( see photos)

Nothing is perfect and as you can see,(photos) sea weed and a rough sea made swimming not possible for a couple of days.
Fortunately, Cancun has an excellent public bus that costs $1 and travels down the hotel strip into town. The Red Bus/ R-2 provided good service to shopping and restaurants.
On my first excursion i went to one of the upscale malls. The mall itself was huge, but not over crowded and most stores had you disinfect your hands before handling merchandise. I kind of felt this experience could have been in any country and i could not find the traditional dresses i wanted to bring back for my grand daughters.

A couple of days later, I took the R-2 to Market 28. I made my way into the first store where i was greeted and escorted around by a charming sales lady. I had done my homework and read that the prices were negotiable, usually about half the listed price. I purchased two children’s embroidered dresses, a traditional button up shirt and five glow in the dar T shirts for about $100. It was fun and i found exactly what i wanted!

The Oleo provided the perfect backdrop for my Cancun getaway! The other tourists came from all over the world and there were families, and couples, but not too many solo travelers, it was very relaxing and comfortable being solo for this trip.
I read some folks were disappointed that the bar in the hotel closed at 10:30, but i really liked that, as it made this hotel free of some of the drunken behavior one typically observes late night on the strip or in other hotels. One of the only complaints i had was the scarcity of umbrellas around the pool. (While i was there, four women from England would come down and lay towels out super early and then claim the only umbrellas for themselves-for days.) However, plenty of shade available on the beach!

I am home and snow is expected tomorrow, yet i am smiling and appreciating the wonderful time i had resetting my soul and finding joy once again.

Hope to make it back sooner than later!
Adios!
Judi

We booked this trip for a get away for our family. From the moment we checked in till the last day, no bad word at all for this hotel, the staff and the services. Not sure what rating the hotel is but it could comfortably pass for a 5star.
The restaurant staff were amazing. The poolside staff were fantastic. The front of house people were amazing.
The food was brilliant.
The staff were polite and because we booked an all inclusive holiday, they kept on asking what we would like to drink where ever we were on the hotel grounds. The whole 7 nights experience was just amazing.
The staff looked really happy and pleasant each time they walked past us. They would always say hello.
In summary, I have no negative words to say about this hotel and our overall stay in this hotel.
I cannot start to name the staff but they were all fantastic.

Room tip: Best holiday ever. Will recommend and definitely come back

Hector made our stay at Oleo unforgettable! Every day as we made our way down to the pool side he would greet us with such a friendly and positive manner that it would immediately brighten our day. It was as if he was able to anticipate our every need, just as we were ready for more drinks, he would be there to take our order, sometimes even anticipating what we were about to order, and just bringing it straight over - this happened several times with water, cocktails, food and iced coffees!

Hector truly felt like a friend during our stay at Oleo, his work ethic and positive attitude is inspirational and we will genuinely miss him now that our stay has come to an end.

As for the hotel itself, on the whole we thought it was great. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, and the facilities were good. As all inclusive resorts go, we thought the food and the drinks were decent, although if you don't like drinks sweet you might struggle because they use a lot of sugar syrup in their cocktails.

My personal favourite restaurant was Hakka, the Japanese restaurant, where the sushi was exceptional! The Mediterranean restaurant Almar was also very good and I paid extra for the "romantic dinner" one night, which is a bit expensive for what you get but certainly worth it if you are celebrating a special occasion such as an anniversary or planning a proposal as I did.

It was nice to be right there on the beach but the amount of seaweed both in the water and on the back was unbelievable! I'm not sure if this was due to the time of year or because there had been heavy winds come through the week before we arrived but it put us off spending too much time down at the beach or in the sea, which is a bit of a shame but nothing anyone can do about that, just thought it would be worth mentioning for anyone picturing white sandy beaches and clear blue waters... Cancun beach does have that, just under a thick layer of seaweed.

Finally, we had upgraded our room to a superior sunset double and while the room was good enough for what we needed, there are certainly areas for improvement. Most notably, the shower door seemed to be installed incorrectly, as it only opened out into the bathroom, where the floor was uneven, causing the door to jam at about 45 degrees so you had to step down the side of the toilet to get into the shower. Then, there was a gap under the shower door so the water would all leak out into the bathroom from the shower, taking at least two towels to soak up afterward. This was a bit of a hassle but we made do with it, had we been staying for longer than a week I probably would have complained and asked for a different room. I would certainly recommend upgrading to one of the Inspira suites if you can afford to do so.

Overall I would recommend Oleo to couples looking for an all inclusive stay on Cancun beach, but just set your expectations accordingly. A good mid-range resort with everything that you need for a nice holiday, but nothing too exceptional.

Room tip: Upgrade to one of the INSPIRA suites if you can

My wife and I had an amazing time for our ten year anniversary at oleo. We particularly enjoyed the pool, beach, and customer service. Raul, Enrique, Rodriguez and Bernice (among everyone else that I didn’t get their names) helped to make our trip amazing! Its quaint and clean has a less resorty feel than other places along the hotel zone. Well def go to oleo again!
