This is a mixed review because the locale, harbor and architecture are so unique and like nothing else. We were not certain what to expect after reading other reviews. Overall, we felt the service and food and attention we received was not worth the price. Something was missing to make one feel special. Guests at Anse Chastanet seemed to be considered "second class " compared to those guests at Jade Mountain. If you are under 45, you will fit in better with the Jade Mountain crowd. A lot of guests at Anse Chastanet are repeat visitors from Britain who stay for a week+.
Negatives first - 1) the winding 60 minute drive to arrive at the resort following by the unbelievably bad last stretch of 2 miles that jostles you around like a carnival ride. This is a deal breaker for us!
2) the dinner menu at the Beach Restaurant which is Indian fusion totally upset by stomach and note that this is NOT a property that is toilet plenty. Remember it is 125 steps up to reception from the beach.
3) the staff as noted in other reviews ranges from curt/rude to kind/friendly. The majority were somewhere in between. Even the friendliness seems fake in many situations. Yes, you get asked so many times if you are staying at the hotel that you start to feel self-conscious. And, we agree that with the HIGH rates being charged per night which do include a service charge and food should mean that one does not sign an invoice which begs for a tip. If someone goes above and beyond we will "take care of them". We found most staff to not be good problem solvers.
4) The toiletries in the bathroom are MB (lotion, soap, and shampoo); however, there is one shower cap and one sewing kit for the length of your stay. What? Shower caps should come in two and should be replaced daily if used. No mouthwash. No razor. No toothbrush kit. No ear tips. Ridiculous. Better see what high end resorts offer. My favorite is Park Hyatt....
5) The Nespresso knockoff coffee machine did not work correctly. The coffee mugs had "scary" coffee stains/rings in them. **Worse thing = the water replenished in the room came in two glass bottles with stoppers - we never had enough water to put in our water bottles/fill the coffee machine/ and brush our teeth. And, the water would be hot when they cleaned your room at 4PM, so you could not drink it until it had chilled in refrigerator**
6) Having to take a shuttle down the hill to the beach and back (We did walk down several times) is a royal pain. As someone said, this is a super hassle if you forget something in your room.
Positives:
1) The spa was very nice and the treatments great. Professional staff.
2) The beach "huts" are sturdy and keep you dry during a rain shower. Nice beach towels and quality chaise lounges.
3) The breakfast in the Treehouse restaurant was awesome. Great smoothies, chocolate croissants, and entrees. Excellent variety of fruit too. Breakfast met our expectations for this hotel.
4) The Tuesday night beach manager reception and buffet dinner is outstanding. The cocktail appetizers are good and the food quality (and variety) is memorable.
5) The view. The view. The view from our porch.
6) The Chocolate produced at the property is a unique touch. We think the property leverages that well. However, at a resort of this caliber I would expect a "turndown" sweet treat instead of just a poem....
7) We loved the "tablet" in the room to access the Internet since there was no TV.
8) The included snorkeling equipment was nice.
--> In summary, we are glad we went and had the experience, but we felt the staff did not really care much about us for the simple reason that the property already has high occupancy....
