Great holiday, no major issues

Review of Hotel Riu Bambu

This was my 4th visit to the Bambu, and went with my Mum.
Booked with Tui and had no major issues with flight or transfers, although they need to revamp their inflight meals, as had the same meal outbound for the past 5/6 years and what they gave this time was sub-standard considering past flights although the return meal was good i was just missing some juice with the breakfast snack. Had an issue with a change of plane on outbound flight so messed up pre-bookrd seats but we are sorting this now back
Emailed the hotel 7-10 days before arrival and asked for a ground floor room close to all main amenities, and this is exactly what we got. Thank you, Riu Bambu :)
Hotel & Service
Check-in was fast and very simple, pointed toward room, and bags were brought to the room about 5 minutes later. Room was bright, nicely decorated with really good air con and ceiling fan. Bathroom had 2 sinks and large walk-in shower. We had hot water every time we needed it. Fridge was stocked with Soda and beer, and there was some water we did need more, but reception was happy to give more. Optics in room were well stocked, and the rum was not too bad, lol. Safe worked fine. Room was cleaned every day, and more pillows and towels were provided once asked at reception. Had no issues with any of the bar or restaurant staff found them all very pleasant and helpful. Some definitely shine more than others. Maria on the plaza bar and Janita in the main buffet
Food & Drinks
I can be a picky eater when away and sometimes can actually lose weight when going AI. However, I can safely say that the food here was second to none, never eaten so much on holiday lol. The main buffet gets busy, but always got a table, always got quick service, and always found something to eat. The food at the buffet was so good we only used one of the speciality restaurants, which was the steakhouse.
All drinks were served just as asked for, and we were served in turn and quickly but does help that we know how to order them in Spanish :)
Steakhouse - The food was amazing, well worth the 1 hour line up to book.
FYI, hotel Bambu - This booking system needs reviewing !!! Got to start linning up at approx 4.30pm for approx. 45mins-1hr to book a slot at either 7pm or 7.30pm ... this definitely interrupts your afternoon :( But like I said the food was worth it, and then some :)
Entertainment
The Riu Pool parties are great they are extremely good fun for all ages, and they are adult only ! FYI, they are themed: White party, Pink party, Neon Party and Jungle party , 2 are approx. 3pm-7pm 2 are approx. 7pm-11pm and they have something different at all. However, when the pool parties are on, there is minimal afternoon pool entertainment and minimal evening entertainment. At all other times, the entertainment was good. Some of the animation team were friendlier than others, but on a whole, they were a good bunch. Although this time, there did seem to be maybe some rota issues and lack of management direction :(. One thing that was always a laugh was the afternoon crazy game at the pool every day (not pool party days). However, this time, these just did not happen. In the 14 days we were there, we saw only 3.
On an evening, they would invite you to dance with the animation team before and after the show, but most nights, there were very few team members around to dance with. May be 1 male 2 females for approx 200 guests !!! Also, after the show, it would be nice to hear some more disco/pop music instead of just the Latin music. One night, they had a good group of people up dancing, but after 3 or 4 songs, they changed it back to the Latin music, and everyone sat down / left :(
FYI hotel Bambu when you do the Retro show continue playing dicso/retro music after it until finish time and on the American show night play some disco/pop music after it till finish time instead of reverting back to Latin music after 3 or 4 songs as this will give a better mix for all visitors.
Disco
The Pacha disco is free entrance for Riu guests, but drinks cost, Rum and Coke 250 pesos ($5), small beer 200 pesos, big beer 300 pesos, so prices are not too bad. It's a good laugh and they play a variety of music, also it's air conditioned which is heaven :) busier on Friday/Saturday.
They say 11pm-4am but will close early if quiet.
Oh, and if you want the DJ to play a particular song, he will but expect to have to pay him for it !!
Miscellaneous
You can get a bus to the shopping mall San Jaun Mall, $5 round trip. Top tip: go to a mall with a supa pola and buy your alcohol there to bring home, it's cheaper than shops at hotel and duty free (even with $5 bus fare) also if you like snacks buy here as very very cheap :) Lastly if your like me and like to head off site on a night, then I recommend El Kan, Drink Point and Club Movie. Local places, local prices, lots of fun but very safe :)

My experience at this hotel was an average one, the first day when I arrived at the hotel there was no electricity and no water in the shower, the problem was solved in a few hours, after a few days there was no internet connection, however, these small problems were ok, the food was good, on this occasion I want to thank the waiters who took care of my family and our table always looks like a holiday, Juan, Jairo, Carolina, and Chiquita also I want to thank the girls from RIoLand, you are the best.

this will be mine and my wife,s third time to the bambu . our first time since they redid the pool areas . very nice layout we spent most of our days there at the beach ,every now and then an afternoon at the pool bar , we both agreed that they stepped up their game in the food dept. , we never had a bad meal ,lots to chose from , we tried the Italian one night again fantastic food and staff , the steak house was our favorite great food . I'm an early bird and every day the hustle and bustle of lots of staff cleaning the grounds was awesome to see and all very friendly . now our first day there we arrived mid afternoon so the only thing on our minds was beach and beers , we discovered later that night that we had no hot water in our room so in the morning we told them at the desk long story short later that day we were good to go so I'm not going to call that a problem other than the staff looked after us I'm in construction, its a big hotel, we knew they would get to us and they did which we felt was very timely considering .never had a problem getting beach chairs lots to choose from, the beach hustlers for lack of a better word we felt were not pushy if you weren't interested no thanks they moved on . we read some complaints about the beach being a little weedy wash up , it really wasn't that bad I mean its an ocean that happens . all in the riu bambu in our minds have stepped it up a notch there was always an activity to sign up for with gave us a chance to meet some really nice people and maybe win a prize as well , the riu girl on the beach Joanna was fantastic every day and bless her with all the different cultures signing up for games she kept the games organized and fun all in great place to stay we will be back

Family trip - 6 adults and 5 children - three rooms.
This was our second visit to the Riu Bamboo, our previous visit was about 4 years ago with two other couples.
We travel to Punta Cana every year and typically stay at Riu resorts. This time the resort showed its age, in my opinion its time for a refurbishment of most of the resort.
Pool decks weren't maintained often (only saw a staff come around once a day to pick up used cups).
Gazebo covers are torn and stained and do not open/close easily
Lots of issues in the room, we had a fairly small room, with a very tiny bathroom. The screen door did not slide so required lots of effort to open. The sliding barn door on the bathroom did the same; finally figured out that if we didn't close it all the way it worked a bit better.
The toilet requires grab bar since its so low (and I'm not that old that I need help up off a toilet). The beds are very low to the ground as well, need upgrading.
Light fixture foot on/off not working so had to unplug to turn off, only two receptacles for use; one by the bar fridge and one in bathroom (had to charge technology in the bathroom), USB ports (two) beside bed, only one worked.
In my daughter's room her blow dryer didn't work.
We requested 3 rooms close since we had young children that we wanted to help with. When we checked in and asked about the proximity of the three rooms, we were told they were all in the same building. Once we were dropped off; definitely not in the same building and very far apart.
Whenever at a Riu resort we always order mimosas for breakfast, NO MIMOSAS! at all.
We all enjoyed the food, something for everyone.
Very disappointed, won't return.
Also, not a hotel related, but the issues at the airport with Sunwing are awful. We have never experienced such disorganization in all the years travelling with Sunwing.

We stayed at Riu Bambu in family suite which was small not as shown in pics. Old drapes and beds. Not comfortable. We were given 2 double beds joined and one sofa bed which was very uncomfortable. This was for family of 4 with 2 grown ups (20 and 18 year olds). We were 3 of us who slept on 2 joined double beds and one of us had to sleep in the middle where there was a gap. When they charge it is per person and per night and this is what you get. One small bathroom with limited toiletries, better to carry our own.
They did not provide blankets and we had to request and the blankets were old. Not really what we expected. I would rate 2 for the bed quality and cleanliness.

I would rate the property and food/drinks at 4 as you have lots to do around and good food choices.

Had access to the beach. Lot of weeds if possible should clean as much as possible as they hurt your feet. Lot of vendors following you near the beach is bit irritating.

This property is very crowded as it is more popular for families as it has more activities.
Common areas were very clean and maintained well.
Restaurants were well maintained.

Room tip: Make sure your room has king bed and not 2 doubles joined.

The resort is clean and well kept the service employees do their best to keep the guests happy and they are always smiling making people feel comfortable.
The food is also awesome,
No doubt we will visit the Riu Bambu again!
