Charged from drinking water bottle and friend visit

After the first day, there were no new drinking water bottle kept in the room. As there are no stores nearby to buy water, it was inconvenience to go in the middle of the night to get water. I was charged for using the water bottle in the fridge. As a Star hotel I expected the hotel to at a minimum provide one drinking water bottle per day. Also a friend came in to visit for couple of hours, and I was billed an extra fee, even though the friend did not use any facilities of the Hotel. That was so cheap to bill extra for a visitor.

First of all, we thank you for distinguishing our Barcelo Santo Domingo hotel during your stay in the city of Santo Domingo and for trusting us.

We sincerely regret the inconvenience that you present in relation to the payment of the extra's expenses of the minibar and your visit.
We take this opportunity to inform you regarding the visits, which have an additional cost when going up to the room, because you must comply with the corresponding registration protocols for your safety. But we have our common areas where you can receive your visitors without any problem. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
In relation to water, daily we provide courtesy water, but the liter of water and those found in the minibar have an additional cost, as you were informed at the time of your check in, we are sorry that we did not meet your expectations in this regard.
Do not hesitate to write to us for any suggestion. Your comments always help us improve our services. We are at your disposal for any requirement you may need.

It saddens me to give a poor review because generally, I have an amazing experience in the Dominican Republic.

My experience starts with check in as they were not able to find my reservations. I made reservations for full board (meaning all 3 meals) premium level. I wanted it the best of the best being that I had to travel by myself. I didn’t want to think about purchasing anything or having to leave the hotel.

Again, my dilemma began at check in when they couldn’t find my reservations although I showed my email. Then the front desk realized I had premium, which meant I had to check in upstairs for that. Upon check in at the premium, I was told I only had breakfast included, although my email reservations clearly stated full board. What bothers me is that I can understand what they may see in their system however if the customer is stating otherwise and showing proof then request management to step in right away. It went back-and-forth and it wasn’t going anywhere. I requested to speak with management and chose to go to my room and call the individual from my room.

So yes as many other claim there’s a musty strong smell throughout the hallways and room from the carpet, not loving that. And you can forget about wifi AND sleep! The sound of the traffic outside from your closed window was as if you were sitting in the middle of it all. 24 hours a day of honking!

Went back and forth on phone, had to send management my email for them to in fact see I had this package. Was told they would call me back (which they may have bc the phone would ring once but when answered no one there) I did receive in the morning a letter that was left under my door, apologizing for the inconvenience and stating they were upgrading me up to a different floor because of the troubles, which I appreciated. When shown to the check in rep they said oh that’s just a welcoming letter. But I know I saw some verbiage stating a move. Then she realized and said yes.
Aside from this headache wifi is non existent unless you’re literally in the premier lounge. I reported this and was simply told I should have it in my room but clearly I did not! So yes, it was a huge inconvenience, having to only have Wi-Fi in the rooftop lounge as opposed to in my room or anywhere else in the hotel and you can forget about the lobby.

Oh lastly during one of my meals as I was stepping out I was told to return because they didn’t see me in the system with my room or paid board, another few minutes of inconvenience!

Pros- buffet food was good and there’s a variety. The lounge offers drinks all day, breakfast and appetizers in the afternoon.

I had to make my stay in the country longer however checked out and went elsewhere, I felt so uncomfortable there overall.
*the men that helped with luggage’s were very pleasant and helpful*

I was like 7 nights at Barcelo Santo Domiingo . All the employee are very kind friendly the sevices was great. The only thing was the room. I never use the room phone in 7 days, because never work ,I reported but nobody came to repeater it. The carpet room smells like smell very bad like was wet before. The maintenance is very important in any property.

DO NOT STAY HERE. I was robbed outside of the hotel. the rooms are dirty and the staff is useless, very dangerous! If you are American RUN. this place should be shut down. There is a guy who waits outside "Tony" to get ur attention to ROB YOU.

Dear Ms. Nicole, first of all, we thank you for choosing the Barcelo Santo Domingo hotel and for distinguishing us with your presence.
We are very dismayed with the content of your comments, because the situation you presented down the street of the Máximo Gomez Avenue.
We are very sorry that this situation has happened to you outside our facilities and that you had to live this unpleasant experience on your vacation. Please take into consideration that you had a private driver contracted to transport you where you indicated with an external company, but you decided to walk around Máximo Gomez Avenue and leave the driver waiting in the lobby that day without canceling the service.
Our hotel was very supportive in relation to your case, giving you follow-up and protection with the following services:
• Our Guest Experience Manager was your translator and accompanied you along with the authorities to Citizen Service at the Palace of Justice to file the complaint, where you, after waiting, decided not to file charges against the assailants.
• You were provided a security staff from the hotel, requested by you, at no additional cost for the entire day, to accompany you to your dental appointment and to the Restaurant.
We are surprised because you tell us that we are useless staff, if we provide assistance far beyond our jurisdiction with the authorities and you decided not to file any type of complaint against the people who committed the act. Therefore, we are very disappointed to learn from your comments that we did not meet your expectations.
Our main commitment and objective are that our guests feel safe at all times, for this reason we have a professional security system for all our guests.

We take the opportunity to inform you that the person you indicated has no relationship with our hotel.

We hope that our country continues to be one of your preferred vacation destinations and that this unpleasant experience is not an impediment to enjoying it in the near future.

This hotel has everything you need, swimming pool, room service, all you can eat breakfast and complimentary bathroom necessities. Aurelio Alcala was especially great in assisting with everything we needed.
