The term boutique tends to be very over-used in travel these days, but it can truly be used to describe Keyonna.
Our arrival at Keyonna was a little shaky as there was no-one on reception, however once the receptionist arrived everything proceed smoothly, including the obligatory welcome rum punch. we'd checked in online beforehand so didn't have to worry about any paperwork.
We'd booked a Beach Pool Cottage to be close to the sea and were delighted with our room. All the beach pool cottages are close to the sea, and our room was the closest. It also had a bit more space and privacy for our allocated bali bed and beach loungers than the other rooms.
The room itself was delightful a very upmarket version of a beach shack with a big double bed. There was lots of storage space, and the mini-bar was stocked with the drinks we'd requested. The wifi coverage was reasonable (about 3Mb/s download). the only think I'd change would be the pillows which were much to firm for me so I slept without them.
Outside the room had its own private are opening onto the beach with the private pool, a couple of beach loungers, and a veranda with table and chairs. There was also a beach shower just by the entrance which I thought was a particularly nice touch. This led directly onto the beautiful beach where our room had a bali bed and another couple of beach loungers assigned. The whole area faced West so each evening we were treated to a beautiful sunset. The only concern I had was that as a pasty white Englishman I would have liked more shade. The bali bed was great in the morning and when the sun was overhead, but as the afternoon progressed I had to drag a lounger behind the bali bed to get some shade.
The food and drink were delicious. No need to book times to eat just turn up. And I was particularly pleased to see a good choice of house wines as part of the all-inclusive deal. They would make any cocktail you wanted, I particularly liked their gin sours. They also had a selection of spirits (for example, gordons, tanqueray and bombay(?) for the gin), not just local brands. The breakfast and lunch menus were the same each day, but with daily specials. But both had a wide range of choices. The dinner menu changed daily.
The beach was beautiful, lovely soft sand and sea that amazing shade of blue you see in the brochures. Never crowded. If you walked to the south end a few minutes away there was quite good snorkelling, we saw sea slugs and lion fishes as well as the usual suspects. Snorkelling gear was available free of charge. You did get some beach vendors (all beaches in Antigua are public spaces by law), but not many and always good natured.
The staff were invariably warm and friendly. Even collecting the passionfruit growing by our cottage and making a delicious fruit juice from them.
