Super private Island getaway

Reviewed May 31, 2024via mobile
Popa Paradise was a tranquil oasis after a busy four day stay at the Bocas del Toro Beach Resort! We were directly picked up at the dive resort dock and entered paradise after a quick 40 minute boat at ride! The resort is directly at a sandy beach and you immediately enter a beautiful rainforest after you leave the beach! We stayed at one of their ocean casitas right off the beach and we couldn’t have been happier with it! The bed was super comfortable, the room was very clean and spacious and we were provided refillable water bottles, which was great!
We had a short walk up to the clubhouse with pool and pool bar! Vince and Rosie, the owners, were absolutely pleasant and made our stay as comfortable as possible! All the food was freshly prepared and delicious! We always were given a choice between two things. We enjoyed lots of local food offerings with fish and yummy curry sauces as well as open bar drinks, wine and beers! We even had a lobster dinner once! We didn’t lack anything!
The resort has walking paths and you can explore deeper into the rainforest as well! We even got to see a harpy eagle and a sloth momma with her babies!
We did a snorkeling and chocolate farm excursion and Rosie organized it all for us! The only thing that couldn’t be arranged was a massage, even though Rosie tried really hard to make it happen! This was only our second clothing optional vacation and we felt very comfortable here! We enjoyed it so much, we will be back in November!

My trip was like coming home to your own tropical island while wondering if I'd stumbled upon a Robinson Crusoe movie set. This 17-room resort off the northeast coast of Panama near Boca del Toro (Bocas) is in a beautiful beachside setting offering all the basics of an all-inclusive property including spectacular sunrises. TIP: Flights to Bocas (BOC) by a commuter airline depart from the local downtown Panama City airport (Code PAC). The trip is about an hour but may cancel or be combined with another flight either direction so plan accordingly. After a 30-minute boat ride from Bocas, owners Vince and Rosie welcomed me to their neat as a pin property for adult singles and couples in a clothing optional setting. In the dining and club house areas, guests are expected to wear a cover up or casual clothes. You can choose to chill out on the beach or in the large freshwater pool. I met other guests quickly as I entered the pool and enjoyed trading stories and toasting our luck discovering our own version of paradise. I enjoyed the totally relaxed atmosphere where it's easy to meet and enjoy the staff most of whom are local native citizens. Features and activities include water sports, snorkeling, fishing, hiking the paved paths in a jungle setting as well as touring with optional excursions such as visiting an indigenous native village or visiting a cacao farm dedicated to eco-tourism which I thoroughly enjoyed. The resort's meal plan is all inclusive with varied cuisine, while not fancy, offers guests a nice variety of local dishes and menu items with plenty of fish and seafood and even lobster coupled with home grown veggies, fresh fruit and creative desserts. I eat and enjoy just about everything and welcomed the chance to try new dishes and fruit I'd never tasted. The fish you catch in the morning can be enjoyed as your nighttime meal. The meal plan also includes local beer, imported wine and a good variety of spirits of the most popular brands and tastes. Each room or suite casita includes air conditioning, private bathroom, spacious bedding and a large screen television (which I never used) for viewing complimentary DVD movies from the resort's assortment in the club house. The beachside setting offers beach combing, sunning on one of the loungers or snorkeling. SCUBA diving can be arranged with dive operators in Bocas. There's so much to do, plan some downtime to relax and remember why you're there...to relax and get away from the everyday. Spoiled rotten? You bet! I'll be back and next time with my wife.

Room tip: Make sure your flights to and from BOC are confirmed and reconfirmed. The commuter airline may combine flights due to low occupancy.

What can I say, we loved it so much the first time we returned.
We made sure to book the same beachfront casita with beautiful sunrise views that we had last year. The room was very comfortable and clean. We loved lounging on our private balcony.
We spent our days kayaking, snorkeling the coral reefs, walking the beautiful beach, swimming in the Caribbean, sipping custom cocktails at the swim-up bar, and walking the property to see the sloth and her baby. The food at every meal was even better than we remembered.
We had an amazing time at Popa Paradise Beach Resort making new friends from around the world. Vince and Rosie were fantastic hosts who always made us feel like family. The staff were friendly and met all of our needs.
We can't wait until next year's visit!!

There is no higher recommendation than a repeat visit, and we sincerely appreciate when our guests come back to see us, with so many other options out there.

For the curious, this couple stayed in Casita 10, one of our most popular Ocean Casitas, along with Casita 6 - literally steps from the beach. We can't always promise a specific room, but please ask!

I just returned from an amazing stay at this amazing location! The communication was clear and informative and travel to the resort was made very easy as a result. You are picked up from the a well know dock in Bocas Town and from there the adventures begin. Popa island is one of the most remote in the archipelago but does not lack in incredible beauty and opportunities for adventure. Upon rounding the corner of the resort, you are met with a beautiful sand beach that is guarded by a coral reef several hundred feed off shore resulting in swimmable Beach with calm waters compared to others on the islands. Once you arrive, all your bags are taken care of and you are met with a fresh coconut water directly from the source. Regardless of the room you choose, everything is in close walking distance. Several of the Casitas are literally steps from the beach. The air-conditioned rooms keep you extremely comfortable when you are in the room.

Kayaks, snorkle gear, body boards and some fishing equipment is provided for guest use. There is a pool and ping pong tables as well puzzles and a large TV with a good selection of movies. There was a TV in the room as well but it wasn't even a consideration. There is so much to do, the only time the room was used was for showers and sleeping. The resort offers an incredible selection of tours and trips from tours of the Zapatillas to Chocolate Farm and even trips to town for shopping or ATV rides. Take the time to enjoy the pool and swim up bar. The staff kept drinks in hand and were very nice and accommodating.

The meals were delicious and offered a variety of options. During my booking, I was asked about dietary restrictions and needs as well. The coco bread at breakfast was delicious and fresh! Options like fresh fish and lobster made dinner quite a treat!

You could not ask for a more relaxed and beautiful setting. If serenity and an escape are what you are seeking....this is the place!

Will definitely be back!!

Room tip: If you are looking for an escape from the crowds with beautiful beaches, well maintained grounds and cold drinks...this is the place!

This was our first stop in Bocas and we couldn’t have been more impressed. We sprung for the oceanfront casita and the view was really out of a movie. Totally secluded. We were one of 5 guests at the time and had the warm Caribbean Sea all to ourselves. I don’t think we saw another soul on the first day. Our hosts, Vince and Rosie, really personalized the experience. Drinks and meals were great. No buffets here! They were also super flexible when organizing transport for us to our next stop. If you’re looking to truly get away,
this is it!

We had a great 3 night stay at Popa Paradise. Vince and Rosie were welcoming and did everything to make sure we had what we needed. They went out of their way to make sure our vegetarian daughters had plenty to eat that pleased them. Service was kind and attentive. The property is rustic and naturally beautiful. We had our own little air conditioned house with a spectacular view of the ocean. For our family vacation, we did not want a CO (clothing optional) resort but booked so late that this was our only available option during the very busy holiday week. It ended up being fine for us as our daughters are over 18 and we did not encounter nudity close up - most of our activities were off the property during the day and CO is only allowed at the pool and beach. The resort would benefit greatly from discontinuing the CO policy as the property is a perfect place for families and I am sure CO keeps many families from booking there. Additionally the pool was not sufficiently chlorinated and had some algae growing in it. Consequently we only swam in the ocean. Luckily the private beach and ocean were marvelous. There are kayaks available for free use on the beach, snorkel equipment and fishing rods and plenty of games, puzzles and a pool table to fill your evening with activities.

I highly recommend this property if you don't mind it being CO and prefer ocean to pool swimming.

We appreciate the detailed and complementary review, which has made the point very well that textile, unclothed and in-between guests coexist peacefully at our resort. It is large enough that if the amount of skin showing makes a guest uncomfortable, there is always somewhere else to be. We will not be discontinuing the CO policy - there are literally thousands of All-Inclusive beach resorts that cater to families, and very few offerings for naturists and nudists.

We appreciate the comment regarding our vegetarian offerings. We can accommodate most food restrictions, and appreciate a heads-up before arrival so we can stock the kitchen appropriately.

Regarding the pool chlorination, we strive to keep levels sufficient to suppress algae growth, but not so much as to make the water unpleasant-smelling and irritating to the eyes, like many municipal and hotel pools. After many years of experience, we usually have the balance just right, and get many complements for doing so. On the other hand, our beach is over 1,000 feet long, very private, and great for swimming; however, I would point out that the ocean contains more then 35 billion metric tons of algae.

We constantly strive to improve, and appreciate this feedback.

Vince, on behalf of all of us here in Paradise
