Lovely place to relax and enjoy nature

Reviewed Dec 30, 2023
Not sure about the bad reviews. We went with a Caravan tour and everyone in our group felt this was the best hotel of the trip. It was clean, the buffets were A-ma-zing(if you know, you know), but of course it was Christmas Eve/Christmas. It was a treat to have meringue puffs for dessert(a family favorite) and they served some sandwich cookies that we all described as heaven in a bite. We stayed on the 6th floor in an end room. It was clean, cool, and with a lovely balcony view. Our air conditioner was quiet and efficient: when you're in the tropics, expect the air conditioner to leave a condensation puddle somewhere. Find it and drop and towel there.

Other complaints were regarding the night safari, that it was cheap and cheesy. It was FREE. We saw a sloth and two capybaras... with a guide, for free. It was fun. Take a camera, he uses a great flashlight that will allow you to take pics(we didn't bring ours). The group from the night before saw more than we did.

Keep a flashlight handy when it's dark and know that power goes out in Panama(including panama city in the best neighborhoods) fairly often. You might have to wait or take the stairs.

Our only complaint was that to walk the grounds from our room(at the far end) we had to walk all the way to the lobby and either go down to the pool area and through the pool, or through the parking lot and back toward our room. If they made it easier to walk the grounds and graveled more paths(our shoes got muddy) the birders and wildlife watchers would keep the place full year round!

Our numerous complaints were ignored even though management (Mr Miguel Martinez) promised they would be in contact. Mr Martinez, why would you provide your email miguel.martinez@gamboaresort.com and telephone 507 314 5000 if you had know intention of responding? You should be ashamed of yourself! The location is supurb. This is not a 5 star resort. I would say this a 3 star at best.
Our room was dirty, old and worn as is most of the resort.
Peeling paint every where and dust so thick like it hadn’t been cleaned in a year. Our shower faucet was on backwards so it took us a while to figure out you needed to turn on cold water to get hot …the windows so dirty it was hard to see out them in some places. The air conditioning barely worked in the room.
    The bed was comfortable though.

The Buffet food for dinner was $28 each and not very good. It was so loud as well like being in a school cafeteria. The other restaurant has a nice view and is outside but only a bar food menu. I would choose This food over the buffet.
The pool was just ok lots of broken tiles and no service.
The overall service was non existent. The staff not very friendly, and when we tried to call the desk for help they didn’t answer the phone.

The Ariel Tram was nice but not really worth $44 each. The night safari was good.

Upon checkin we were told by Victor that our breakfast was included.
When we went to breakfast we were charged $36 and I didn’t really eat anything because the food was cold and not good.
We also asked for a later check out due to our late flight 1:00 was the best they could do for us, which wouldn’t be terrible but the reception is not air conditioned so I will have to sit and sweat 2 hours prior to my flight.
This has been an awful experience sadly, as I have enjoyed the 9 days being in this beautiful country.

We read many reviews and had mixed feeling based off of what we read. People either seem to love this place or not. You can add us to the group that loved it!

We thought the resort was very nice and was perfect for our family of four. We booked the #MeetGamboa package for 1 night and would highly recommended it. We were able to do many of the tours they provide to experience the rainforest. Our favorites were the boat tour of Lake Gutan with a trip to "Monkey Island" and the Night Safari that is included with any overnight stay at the resort. When we added up all the tours, meals, drinks, etc. the package really paid for itself.

While not the fanciest 5-Star resort, it did not give us the impression of being "run down" as others seemed to indicate. We say many cleaning, painting, etc. all around the resort during our stay. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Panama

Room tip: The #MeetGamboa package is great for a family of four.

One of the worst experiences I ever had. Rooms are old, musty, and in need of extensive renovation. Food in restaurant is not worth the money that is being charged. It looked like a Panamanian picnic.
The entire staff is unresponsive to phone calls, emails, or any type of communication
My husband and I had to leave a day early because of rioting in the streets, and the unrest going on in the country. They are refusing to refund one night stay because of our decision to leave early so that we would be safe at another location. I will never stay at this property again, because of their unwillingness to work with people especially because of their unresponsiveness.

We spent two nights here. The rooms are excellent with comfortable beds and a lovely balcony overlooking the river. The pool area is well maintained and the tours are very good with knowledgable tour guides. The food is mediocre and the lobby feels dated.
