We have just returned from 5 nights at this hotel and I’m sorry to say that this hotel is definitely not 5 star hotel standards.
I will start with the positives, the room was nice with a lovely view and the large infinity pool is of course beautiful and the best part of this hotel. However after coming from 2 nights at their sister hotel Kantouni (at Kalymnos) this hotel seemed like a huge downgrade. Of course we understand the service was always going to be different going from a small hotel to a large one, however it was a lot poorer than we expected.
When you arrive the reception staff are not that friendly, they provided no information about the hotel, no map or no information about the Island. We were handed our keys and shown to our room (The gentleman who took us on the buggy was lovely). The view from the room was as advertised and lovely, but the walls are paper thin so you can hear tv’s in the next room, people walking etc. and the balcony doors have bad soundproofing so you can hear everything from people on other balconies, I had to complain once as the room 2 floors below us was playing the loudest and most unbearable music which we could hear even with our door shut, which did stop 5 minutes after I called reception so I believe they spoke to them.
We spent a couple of days at the pool and the food was lovely but the young gentleman serving was just terrible, he was only young and probably still learning but every time he took someone’s order he would return asking people “did you order this” and couldn’t remember who had ordered what, he also forgot our order until we flagged him down again half an hour later. Training should take place before you open for the season.
David’s food hall - most evenings there was a good variation of food, Greek night we found worse then the normal night though. One night there was a full pig being served, it was positioned right as you entered and I thought this was really poor taste for any vegetarians or vegans (I am not one but it still made me feel sick as it was still a full pig, smiling with teeth on show) and put me off my food. The restaurant is so dated, the chairs look about 20 years old and it looks like a huge canteen, we were half board but didn’t want to eat there every night so ended up paying to eat elsewhere 2/3 nights. The roof above was dirty too.
I felt like the general upkeep of the hotel was poor, the pool at the top got so windy and the beds would blow all over and just got left there, so presentation was definitely not 5*.
The gentleman that works for the car rental inside the hotel was also rude, we spoke to his company before arriving at the hotel and were quoted a price, my husband went to speak to him and he quoted him more! Hy Husband said I think I can get it cheaper elsewhere and the guy said “go look elsewhere then”. Not he way you expect to be spoken to in a 5* hotel. We also dined at the Soya restaurant and found the food bland and poorly presented (attached photos).
I don’t like leaving bad reviews but other than the large pool, and the pool bar I feel like the rest of the hotel is a 3/4 star, as we went in May the price was quite reasonable but still disappointing, had I gone in peak and paid a higher price I would have been even more disappointed.
