Secure your seats first or you could be eating/ drinking on the move, it can get very busy. It has a great friendly atmosphere with a great choice of drinks, a great gourmet experience but some dishes can be expensive. Keep a couple of receipts because if you need to visit the toilet it will cost you if you can't produce a receipt.

This market has it all - fruit, desserts, empanadas, fish, cheeses and so much more. Each station sells a small sized version - you can have a tiny burger to avocado toast. It is always very crowded and it is virtually impossible to get a seat. We had our food as take out and ate at our hotel. The market has beer and wine too. Excellent food, beautifully presented.

If you don’t mind paying 4.50 euros for 4 prawns that were probably cooked 6 hours ago and been sitting under a heat lamp all day or 3.50 for a tiny quiche, Also get crushed all the way round with nowhere to sit or even stand and eat, then this is the place for you. We stopped at a shop called shandy I think, asked for a chicken pasty and a small quiche (6 euros for the 2) , the lady tried to keep selling us other stuff that she had loads of and said do you want this cheese croquette at 2.50, I said no thanks and she said so you don’t like cheese then and gave me a funny look, I said no just the things we’ve ordered, I was almost ready to walk away at this point but gave her a 20 note and she gave me change of a 10 mostly in coppers, I told her it was wrong and she reluctantly gave me a 10 note. Maybe it was just this one stall but it really put us off. The market has a wonderful array of foods and drinks but be prepared to spend a fortune if your hungry or thirsty. My tip is to go in, walk round everything, take pictures then go outside and find another place to eat/drink. Instead go to Atocha station and get the train to Malaga , the market there is way better and not a tourist rip off place like this! In fact Malaga is a better city overall in my opinion, and Seville and Toledo and Córdoba!

It is an open area surrounded by glass so it's quite warm during the winter. It is cozy and you can see a lot of young people eating tapas and drinking. There is a huge variety of tapas that seem delicious but they are quite pricey and you need quite a few to satisfy your hunger.

Foodie Heaven with tons of options to eat. The best part is that you can choose the quantity of A PARTICULAR thing that you see on display. The place is definitely more expensive than other say Mercado de San Anton which is small but you will find more local people at San Antonio. The vermouth on tap is super tasty and gets you ready for a gastronomic experience that is the tapa. Being right next to Plaza Mayor, Royal Plaza and Sol area , one can cover that above area and head to Mercado de San Miguel for lunch / dinner. If you have just arrived at Madrid and yet to discover what kind of tapas you will like, it is best to hit this place and experience the variety that is available. This will beat the Tapas tour if you are ko on your own and need some fair idea of what food to try in Madrid. It's definitely more expensive than other places but you get to try super small portions like say 1 peice of something if you wanna try.... I definitely recommend it for 1. Good vermouth on tap 2. Calamaris 3. Cheeses with various options 4. Good Cerveza 5. Decent croquettes 6. GOOD VIBE.

I love this food market, it is the perfect place to experience the typical Madrid lifestyle while sampling some delicious food and wine. Although one of the more expensive food markets in Madrid, it is definitely worth a visit if only to stroll through the stalls and enjoy the atmosphere. Try the bocadillo de calamari, a typical Madrid staple that consists of crispy fried calamari in a soft bread roll with alioli. Best enjoyed with a chilled glass of white. If you like Poke bowls, there is a stand which sells delicious ones and you will find stands selling delicious paella’s and cheese. A foodie must see in Madrid!

What a gem for the city of Madrid! This beautiful glass building housed booths/stands selling many different types of foods to try. I recommend going to try small amounts of different things rather than expecting to sit down for a full meal. There were not a lot of tables and the crowds/noise made a thoughtful conversation difficult. Don't pass it up if it looks crowded. There were so many choices that lent itself to short lines in many places therefore you could grab your small bites and move on. There were classic favorites like paella and Iberian ham to the unusual like sea urchin! I think you will enjoy your experience best with these expectations!

This market is the place to go for food, drink and people watching. If you are careful you can eat reasonably priced food, but watch out, some tapas are expensive and the cost can soon mount up. So interesting to wander round and look at all the stalls, you can eat on the go but try if you can to grab a seat at the central tables.

This was a great way for me to experience tapas as I am a fussy eater and like to see what I’m getting. We enjoyed an Aperol Spritz (or two) and wandered around sampling the goods! I did have one guy try to tell me they couldn’t accept coins below 5c but as there were no signs I basically told him to lump it. It all legal tender and no sign so either take the money or take the stuff back! Enjoyable stroll and graze

Just round the back of the over touristy Plaza Major is this gem of an old market converted into perhaps 40 or 50 small independent Tapas bars serving a vast array of cheap delicacies all surrounded by Wine bars and oyster bars . in the center are communal tables . If you can find a seat be seated quickly whilst your partner or friends go in search of the food and drink . everything we had was delicious and wine is by the glass or bottle and vast selection . settle down for the afternoon or evening and enjoy .

The bustling market is filled with like minded hungry patrons, milling from booth to booth gathering delectable offerings to share or devour themselves. The tables are at a minimum so consider yourself lucky if you find a spot to set your beverage while you take a bite. Tastes buds will not be disappointed, savory outnumbers the sweet offerings, by far. Spend the afternoon enjoying many tapas selections they offer.

We visited this place to see all the fruits and veggie as well as the meat and fish section. Many stands offer tid bits, tapas and local dishes at reasonable prices. Will have lunch there on our next visit to Madrid.

Must see in Madrid. You can find a wide variety of dishes and tapas in this place. Although it’s crowded and with loud noise, the place is nice and you can find delicious tapas, although expensive. Highly recommend the olives and the salmon.

We visited to have a walk round as we saw it was a must visit. The venue was beautiful and atmosphere was great, however as it's very busy the space is quite cramped and you have to squeeze past people. The food stalls looked delicious however quite pricey so we didn't try anything... definitely a tourist attraction.

We tried to visit late November but the place was way too busy literally not enough room to swing a cat. So when we visited this time it was happily a bit quieter. Lots of areas to choose your food and drinks. Amazing so much to choose from too. Calamari, tapas, Bao buns, pizza, wraps, paella, oysters sweet treats too. If you can grab a stool and a bench to sit too it’s a great plan. Then send a runner to get your food. If you want to toilets keep your food/drink receipts & it’s free. Otherwise you put 50c.
