If there is a queue of people waiting to get in don't be tempted to walk away, join the queue and wait to enjoy the delicious food and atmosphere. Visited here around 945pm, waited around 20 minutes for a table and had a really fantastic experience. I don't speak much Spanish and the staff were super helpful at recommending a selection of food. Cant wait to go again!

We visited this Bodega three times as we loved the atmosphere and it was handy to where we were staying. No other tourists in the bar each time, only locals. Had delicious artichokes and salmorejo. Vermouth on tap and good service from the one waiter. I find that if you interact with the staff anywhere they always end up being friendly and obliging.

This was a challenging dining experience at prime time for a solo limited Spanish speaker but the reward was so great. The best tortilla of my trip and ice cold vermouth. 100% worth fighting your way to to front of the bar for

The bar is old and atmospheric, but the charm is short-lived. The service is indifferent, bordering on rude, overcrowded with canoodling couples, to get to the back room you have to crawl under the bar. The mainstream tapas are very good, such as the torta and croquetas—stick to these and beer. We ordered the spicy chorizo although cautioned it would take at least 10 minutes. Odd, it arrived cold from the fridge, uncooked, and heaped with stale crackers—inedible. The wine of unknown type was truly horrible, unforgivable really since in Spain there is something wonderful at every price point—tasted as if diluted with water. Cannot imagine returning.

Ok, so I am giving one star not for the place or food itself, but for the service. Lest start from the most important things first: the food is quite good, not the best tapas I ever had, but still quite nice. Prices are honest. As the place is small it gests quite packed and you might have to wait 15-30 min to get a table. We had several tapas, had a nice time, and after spending 30-45 min there I asked to pay in order to leave. When I told the staff one of the tapa we ordered never reached us but it was still in the invoice, he replied “no, you ate it. I remember serving you this tapa”, and started describing the tapa, but unfortunately we never received anything similar. We did order it, but we never received it. He insisted we ate it without realising (I normally understand when/what I eat but ok). This was very distrurbing as it was accusing me I was lying (to save 3.9€, seriusly?) since the dicsussion wasnt going anywhere I told him I am going to pay for it but that I want to be clear: we never received it and it was his mistake, not ours. No apologies, no modesty, nothing. This to say: check your bill vs what you get carefully, and complain if something is not in order, as I have the feeling it might not be the most honest place.

They recommended this place as a real madrileno one and this was truth. When you enter there you can feel it the real Spanish vibes, location is really suggestive and the food …. WOW! Personally I recommend the tortilla because it has a smooth heart, completely different from the ones tasted in other places. Also, the bull meatball are delicious. The only thing for which I do not give 5 stars is that’s really complicated to find a spot to sit and you have to eat stand at the table. However, it is a worthy experience

In the heart of malasaña. This is very typical bodega, but you will find locals and tourists. The place is always packed. The grilled artichokes (alcachofas a la plancha) are incredible, the best I’ve ever eaten. The tortilla is also very good.

Thanks so much for your review! We are so pleased to have both locals and tourists with an interest for a traditional Spanish pub. Have you tried our typical Salmorejo Cordobés or our savory ox stewed cheeks crowned with piparras (Basque country local chili pepper)? We hope to see you soon ;)

Very disappointed with La Ardosa where I bring friends and family when they visit me in Madrid. For the second time, we experienced a bad service, not only by waiting 30 mns for each drink or plate but also with apparently 3 or 4 plates unavailable. After talking to the manager, it seems these plates were actually available which means this "diva" waiter didn't want to serve us. A pity indeed ! I have completely lost the motivation to go back.

DONT BOTHER. If the waitress had poked me in the eye, I would have left more satisfied. Upon entering we were told to go in the back behind the bar if we wished for table service/a seat due to the majority of the place being standing only. We did this and awaited for someone to serve us. I would now love to provide a review of the food, however we sat there for over an hour like we were waiting for a bus and were ignored the whole time, meaning that we left prior to our order being taken. I would fully understand if the place was busy, however there were only two other tables occupied. Even when approaching the staff, I was met with abruptness and felt ostracised. Whether this was due to my lack of Spanish or because I wasn’t local, I am unsure. One thing I am sure of though, is that I will not be returning here. The poor (or complete lack of) service was a blessing in disguise and it meant we went elsewhere and had some really nice food. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.

A local person told me this place was good, so after having walked an entire day, I went to this place and even though there were only standing places, I thought I would not mind in spite of my long walk, as long as I got some good food. First, it took a while until the waiter took my order, even though the place was not very busy at that time. I ordered tortilla, croquetas de jamon and eggplant sticks. The tortilla was indeed very good, but the other two I found awful. The croquetas were only a white paste, with no trace or taste of ham. The eggplant sticks was not salted and were extremely bland. I ate the food mostly in order not to have to look for another place. Later, while reading my travel guide, I was surprised to see this place was mentioned. I would certainly not go back there.

This place is awesome. A lot of locals come here, tapas are delicious, their tortilla is amazing, and the whole experience is great. When you come in there is a fairly small place, but you can go under the counter where there is another room with a bit more space.

Was curious about this small bodega across from our apartement.. Unfortunately i already had dinner so no appetite to check out the food.. Plenty of customers were eating croquettas..so i guess it is a topper here... They seem to have some Irish connection.. Guiness draught, Brits in the bar and your typical UK beer hardware unlike the one usually found in Europe.. Very cosy but missed the Spanish hospitality of a free tapa with your drink

Very bizarre I'd heard of this vermouth bar but to find it when strolling was a sign as timing wise no queue and 1 table for 2 free. Do sample the vermouth and the tortilla is delicious. We also tried wine and croquetta. Service excellent and as an experience in Madrid I'd say an absolute must.

Big no. Popularity has gone to their heads. unfair treatment. Selective treatment from waiters. Not a decent place to get if you don't speak the language. Good spots are meant for Spaniards. An artificial row is created outside. When you are finally inside, you are not looked after. I would say go to one of the other nice tapas bars in Madrid.

The only visible attraction are the tiles from 1919 , the rest is rather mediocre , bit a place forgotten from time and their owners. The food was OK as the Vermouth, but really nothing to talk about . Inside it is charming like bus stop, outside you've the "melody" of very frequented road.....
