Brasserie 701 captivates guests with its grand decor and European charm, offering a vibrant ambiance under high ceilings that many find delightful. Nestled in a prime spot, the restaurant is a convenient choice for exploring Vieux Port and old Montreal. While some diners applaud the quality of the dishes, others express disappointment with the food's inconsistency and value, citing instances of dishes being cold or not properly cooked. Service quality also varies, with reports of both highly attentive staff and frustratingly slow service, potentially leading to longer wait times that affect the overall dining experience.

This was my first time dining at Brasserie 701. I wanted to try something different from my usual haunts and lucked out by selecting this restaurant. The location is great, very near the Place d'Armes Metro station and to all of the sights of Old Montreal. It would be a perfect dinner spot for someone attending a show at the Centaur Theatre. The room is magnificent; it appears to have been a bank at one time. Seating is somewhat tight, but there is only so much space that can be used for tables and the restaurant is very popular. Service was not exceptional, but it was pleasant and professional. A server dropped a glass of beer near our table, and luckily my spouse and I weren't splashed. Staff was very apologetic and made sure the mess was cleaned up fairly quickly. The food itself was superb. My spouse and I had a Quebec foie gras au torchon, which consisted of two thick and creamy slices, far more than we would receive in the States for a higher price. For main courses we had a beef tartare and the fish of the day, which in this case was halibut. The halibut was also quite reasonably priced compared to restaurants in the States. It and its accompaniments were delicious! We both raved over the freshness, the doneness, and the amazing flavor. It was truly one of the best fish meals I have ever tasted. For dessert we had the lime cheesecake with extra mango and passion fruit coulis. We never eat cheesecake but thought we'd try this one because it sounded so interesting. It did not disappoint. The extra coulis put it over the top. (Coulis is often the best part of any dessert.) So this was a memorable meal from start to finish. Next time we'd like to try the salmon tartare because the halibut was so exceptional.

Visited Montreal and was looking for an authentic meal with a French vibe and great food to take the family for our "big" dinner out. Brasserie 701 did not disappoint. Awesome old French building and decor with a lively atmosphere and terrific food. Steak Frites was done perfectly and their 3 course menu for $29 was outstanding value. Extensive wine list with lots of options. I will be back for sure and this venue is great for a casual business outing or date night.

I went to this restaurante last year and I was expecting that same experience this time, but...!!! While visiting the Old town, we stopped in the afternoon at Brasserie 701 for a glass of wine. It was crowded and very noisy. Staff were very nice and took good care of us. The wine list by the glass is very restrictive and very expensive. I was deceived by the taste of a 22$ glass of wine but, hey, I guess price does not mean anything althought this was a wine from Toscana. My sister had a glass of white wine and she was not amazed by the taste. We went back there at night since we had a reservation. Still crowded but different people, I would say more professional look like, more classy, I am not judging but trying to explain the difference with the afternoon crowd that was very young and very noisy. We had a perfect table close the fireplace for that evening and the service was very good. My bad, when ordering, I wanted to eat pastas, I ordered the raviolis without reading anything LOL ! Thought I would have raviolis in a tomato sauce but, no, it was a white sauce. I have to say that I was amazed by the taste and eat everything. The vegetable feuilleté as appetizer is ok but very expensive for so few vegetables between two flakies crust. That night I chose a different wine and was happy with the taste. The decor is great and it has a lot of ambiance. The menu is not very exhaustive but it seems that people likes the carte and all food looks amazing in plates.

I’m surprised with the good reviews in this place. We made reservations for breakfast. We were seated at the bar, since there was no tables available. The food took 45 minutes to arrive, absolutely unacceptable, especially for breakfast, and our server didn’t even apologize for how long it was taking. After all this tome, my husband’s food came cold and they brought me the wrong dish. Our coffees were empty for a long time, nobody noticed. I asked for salt and the server put salt on my food instead to give me the salt shaker. I’ve never seen this before in my life. It was also hard to get the bill, we had to call someone and ask for it. The server was inside of the bar the whole time (a lady) and she was being very rude to the other workers in front of everyone, basically yelling at a young server and aggressively taking things from his hands. I think she is the manager, which is even worse for how bad the service was and her lack of care for customers and coworkers. Never again!

I’ll start with the pros. This place is stunningly beautiful inside and out. The bottomless mimosas are great (one mimosa is $11 so just do the bottomless for $25 if you plan on having a second). Our server was lovely, he had said he was still new but we thought he did great and was very kind. Cons. It took a long time for our food to come which wasn’t a deal breaker because we were drinking mimosas but definitely was a lengthy wait. I got the eggs breakfast and it was really good. My partner got the eggs Benny and he said he was quite disappointed with it. Generally speaking it was still a great time. BUT. I’d say the part that stuck out to me was the manager/supervisor/ someone in a suit that was clearly the boss was behind the bar (we were sitting at the bar) speaking strongly/sternly/rudely, whatever word you want to use, to his staff who all seemed to be doing something (as in not a single person was just standing around looking bored) it just felt a little power trippy and unnecessary and I wished I hadn’t been privy to it as I’m sure no paying customer would want to be. I recognize that a lot of restaurants have that mentality but I didn’t love it. Still a beautiful place and overall we were glad we spent our morning there.

We had a delightful dinner at Brasserie 701. The menu was very extensive and the prices were moderate. Also the wine prices were moderate. It is a very high energy restaurant that attracts a very beautiful young clientele. The wait staff were charming and professional. The location is excellent in Old Montreal near the Notre Dame de Montreal. We highly recommend Brasserie 701

Located in Old Montreal and has beautiful decor. We had brunch here and the food was delicious. Service was wonderful; the serving staff were very attentive. I had the Eggs Benedict and it was cooked just perfect! They also offer unlimited mimosas (for 2 hours) for $30 which is very reasonable. We will be coming back for brunch again!

Maitre D quite unbearable. An over $200 order for 2 with a 15 minutes service was deemed unacceptable. Bring an effing drink and appetizer. Sorry never went back. Perfect decor and loved the fireplac!

My wife & I do reports for restaurants and hotels. It was our first visit tonight and we were delighted!!! The salmon tartare, the ice melon soup and the tomato feuilleté were delicious. Our main courses were also really good!!! (Mahi mahi and bavette) The vanilla creme brûlée ended our evening with a sweet touch but not over sugary. This french brasserie is really awesome and the chef obviously is a big part of this culinary journey! We highly recommend Brasserie 701 and next time we will try their outstanding new terasse. Tonight was rainy in Montreal ;)

We were seated at the end of the bar while many tables sat empty. We waited almost 10 minutes for a waiter to give us menus We ordered the table d'hote, a salmon tartare, hanger steak, fries and a salad, and a pina colada desert. The steak was so stringy that it was uncuttable with the steak knife; the salad was greens from a bag, nothing more except a drizzle of a bland dressing, the fries over salted. We had better salads at the botanical gardens and the food vendors at Marche Atwater. The dessert was a slice of pineapple with dots of cake nd pineapple and two teaspoons of coconut ice cream. pathetic. We come to Montreal for the great food. This was rated as the third best restaurant in Montreal- but it was, again pathetic. Over priced, high turnover, low quality tourist food. At least the cocktais were very good.

Family lunch we arrived a bit late (2:15) but they took care of us even though the lunch shift was ending. We had Shrimp and Lobster, duck beet salad, buttermilk fried chicken honey dripped and order of fires and the turkey tetrazini. All was excellent and the service was great.

We had high hopes for this restaurant with its good ratings and reviews. The food was excellent. The service, however, was not. It may be that the restaurant was understaffed due to COVID, as it appeared that there was only one server for the entire patio and I apologize to him in advance for this review if that was the case. The service, however, was not really acceptable. We had a reservation for the patio made a few weeks in advance. When we arrived, the hostess sat a walk in group with no reservation ahead of us in the last table for 4. When she got to us next in line, we had to wait quite awhile for people to finish before we could be seated. Once seated, we waited a long time for one glass of water. I say one, because that is all we got. The glasses sat empty for the rest of the mean once the initial pour was gone (despite asking for refills several times). The food took a long time to come out (all courses). We had a sharing platter for the main course and the waiter never gave my husband a plate. Eventually he got up and got his own little side plate from the service station. The platter itself was outstanding. Great steak and really beautiful presentation. We would have ordered dessert, but simply could not bring ourselves to wait that long. The bill took a good 20 minutes to appear after we asked for it. The restaurant is not cheap. The food was definitely worth it, but the service needs a lot of work.

This restaurantt is located in the Cote de la Place d'Armes Hotel. They were really busy when we arrived however, we were seated in the bar area first where we experienced great service, and started our meal with beverages. Once we received our drinks we were very quickly seated in the main dining room. The food and service here were top notch. I would greatly recommend Brasserie 701 to anyone looking for a great meal.

The brasserie has a nice vibe and decor, and the maître d was very nice and accommodating. From there, everything went downhill. Not sure if it was just a bad night or this place is always mediocre. First I was served some hard and dry bread without a knife for the butter. It took ages to attract the waitress’ attention and finally get a knife delivered to the table. I ordered the escargots and duck confit. The escargots took ages to arrive and were delivered with the fork but without the tongs. The tongs came after. The escargots were tiny and appeared to be empty. I managed to get just one out but prodded around the others for ages with no luck. Another waiter brought my duck just after the escargots were delivered. I asked him why he had brought my main when I hadn’t even eaten the appetiser and he looked at me blankly. Also when I said I couldn’t get the escargot out, if they were in there at all. Then the waitress finally came and said they “had a bad batch” and other guests had complained also. So they would bring me some more and I wouldn’t be changed for them. They finally arrived after I had finished the duck. The duck portion was really small and overpriced - 3 measly strips of carrots. Then when the bill arrived, surprise, surprise the escargots were on the bill. The waitress said she didn’t know anything about it and had to get the manager to sort it out. This place is worse than Faulty Towers. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. There are so many great restaurants in Montreal, don’t waste your time and money here.

Was able to snag a last minute reso the night before. We came on a Sunday at 11am and heard others being turned away with no reservations. The greeter was very thorough in checking our vaccination status. We were seated at the bar. Service was quick and friendly. I had the chicken and waffles and my husband had the eggs Benny. Food was good but unremarkable. We were in and out in under 40 min. They have a bottomless mimosa option which seemed very popular. Nice patio overlooking Old Montreal.
