The Ashcroft River Inn is not a beautiful building (you enter past the 'pub' and have to collect keys from the bar staff), but it is in a very good location on the banks of the Thompson River which flows rapidly past. We also enjoyed hearing the trains hooting their arrival at the town - there are railways on both sides of the river.

The rooms are rectangular, with a window on one of the shorter walls, so they are rather dark even in the daytime. Our bathroom also looked in need of refurbishment, but was functional (bath plus shower) and the rooms were clean. The beds were comfortable, and there was a coffee maker (not so good for tea drinkers!).

The restaurant was closed because of an injury to the chef, which was a shame as there is not much else in town and we had heard good reports of meals there.

Even at $69 per night it wasn't a great deal. Small, cheap improvements could make a huge difference. No Bathrobe hook. Shortage of hangers. Shower curtain dangerous length. Luggage rack. Common areas carpets are filthy.

It was an old but nice little hotel by the river. Although not very updated, the room was quite clean, the restaurant offered average food and the pub was a good place to hang out and meet the locals.

We stopped by here on a tour of the Thompson Okanagan. The hotel was right on the river, beautiful setting. Rooms are a good value, clean and comfortable. The restaurant is great, good cajun chicken burger.

We stayed at the River Inn for one week and it was an incredibly peaceful stay. They gave us a room right by the water and we also hosted a reunion in their banquet hall. The staff was great, manager was on hand to make sure we had everything sorted. The staff in the bar were friendly but it seems like a strong local vibe. We couldn't believe the rates our one night stay was actually less than what we spent on dinner at the restaurant (a bit pricey). At any rate, its a very serene and peaceful hotel right in downtown but its down a small hill right on the river bank which gives it this privacy. Highly recommended.

Visited Ashcroft on my way up North and loved the place. Absolutely charming. Stayed at the River Inn which was great. The service was great. I remember requesting an extra pillow at 2 am in the morning and promptly an extra pillow arrived. I had a fantastic sleep. What was even better was waking up to look at the rushing Thompson River...now that was impressive. Hoping to come visit again.

I have been travel for over 35 years and this is the worst place I have ever stayed in. It starts off by the lady at the counter telling you she does not care and either does the owner! I made a mistake of saying I could not find them listed in my GPS, So right off the start you get a picture of how bad it is going to be. First room I rejected do to the hole in the wall and the second was just as bad. Smell is something else. No screens on the window so you cannot leave them open because of the bugs. Well the bed was terrible, AC had to be on full blast, frig froze everything and the smoke alarm well see the picture. I would suggest sleep in your car but the bar is open until 2:00AM. No number on my door, of course.

As a previous person said, this place has so much potential, but it has been neglected for a long time. The lobby is filled with old chairs, worn and stained. Hallways are dimly lit and smell strongly of stale tobacco. Non-smoking bedrooms smell of tobacco. There are marks on the walls of the room. The lampshades are torn. The veneer is peeling off the bathroom cabinet/countertops and all furniture in the bedroom. The sink and bathtub have both been damaged. The finish on the bottom of the bathtub has worn off. The floor in the bathroom is disintegrating. The toilet seat is very old and worn. When I came home the following day, I had bites on my torso. Whoever the owner is of this establishment is, they should be very ashamed. Small upgrades would not be costly and would make such a difference. There is no excuse for bathroom flooring that is worn out, or marks on the walls. New lampshades are not expensive.

It's a surprise to find the newly opened restaurant in the hotel and everything is beyond my expectation. Room right in front of the river, beautiful view, helpful staff and amazing bar. Will stay here for next summer.

Upon checking in the first thing I noticed was the heavily soiled carpet, which had carpet deodorizer caked on. The list grew quickly in noticing what else was wrong.

The toilet was non-stop running, an infestation of ants along the window sill, bathroom, and entire room, carpet beetle carcus in the floor, and looks like the carpet was never vacuumed. A pile of black dried up bugs in the corner behind night stand. Countless spiders in different types.

I saw something brown move at the corner of my eye and saw a little brown bug crawling on the bed towards me. We killed it. 10 minutes later I saw another brown bug on the comforter. After seeing those bugs, I won't be getting any sleep tonight. Especially after a spider came darting onto the bed towards me and I jumped and screamed to get off the bed as fast as I could.

There's no room service. The bedding is only offered one week later. After taking dirty linen you have to wait a couple of hours for the same set to be washed. After it's washed, bugs start crawling into them after a day.

Every time you run out of cups, toilet paper, plastic garbage bags, clean towels, you have to beg or hunt somebody down.

Try asking the owner to get ant killer for the infestation in the room and he ignores you.

Mold build up in the bathroom. The bathroom shower wall has big holes in it from the mold. The roof above the shower head looks like it's going to cave in at anytime.

Don't waste your time or money on this place. Not even if it's last resort. Unless you don't mind sleeping in a bug infested room.
