Hotel HL Paradise Island offers an energetic ambiance with entertainment and activities that cater to families, though the noise level and dated decor have not gone unnoticed. While the location is generally appreciated for its family-friendly vibe and proximity to exploration sites, some guests feel it's a bit removed from town centers. Opinions on the hotel's value are mixed, with notable discontent over unexpected charges and underwhelming amenities. Room conditions, including cleanliness and maintenance, have room for improvement. Service experiences vary, with commendations for staff friendliness tempered by criticism regarding upkeep and staff attitudes. Amenities like the water park are a highlight, despite grievances about pool maintenance and hidden costs.

Rooms are spotless, cleaned every day except Wednesday, and very large pool towels supplied changed once during the week (no deposit). All staff - reception, entertainers, bar and restaurant, shop and lifeguards were very friendly and helpful. Pools are freezing, one small one is heated but only a few degrees above the others. Waterpark very good but again, water freezing. One thing to note about some of the pools is they give the illusion of being quite shallow but go from shallow to quite deep very steeply (shallowest is 0.3mtr) which is quite deep for small children. Food was very good, varied and plentiful and very well presented both in the restaurant and the outside bar area.. Very noisy in the club under the pool bar for the evening entertainment and the music was a crescendo. The bingo was a bit of a joke, very difficult to follow which when you'd paid 5 euros to play shouldn't have been. Courtesy bus to the beach was really good and the 10am service runs directly to the local market on Wednesdays and Sundays - which is at the marina and a stroll back to the beach. Rooms are well equipped with full fridge, kettle etc and designed to give maximum privacy and the whole place is very quiet so none better than the other really.

Was moved here from a sister hotel and really didn't want to stay here. I'd read about it after others had been moved here and knew it wasn't for me and I was right. The good is the apartment size, large living room/kitchen area and a smaller bedroom which is the right way round for a holiday. The small area outside the bedroom is handy for drying towels/swim gear. The shower was brilliant once you got the knack of the hot/cold controls. The bad was the hardness of the beds, noisiness of neighbours either side and above, walls are thin, food other than the basic salads was not good. The meat which always looked good was always tough and chewy. The loudness of the music blaring out next to the pools was awful. Sunday was lovely, no music just the sound of kids playing in the pool. Not being able to refill your own drinks bottles was annoying. I don't drink alcohol during the day only water yet they wanted me to keep using small plastic cups - great for the the environment - not. All inclusive is only until 11 at night. You get given a sheet with information on when you check in which says it is forbidden to reserve sunbeds - needless to say you had to be up and about by 8.30 to reserve a sunbed or you'd not get one in a good place. As I said, all great if you have a young family but its not my cup of tea.

We stayed at this hotel early January for one week with our two grandchildren aged nine and six.
The hotel reception is very spacious and clean. We were greeted with very friendly staff. As we arrived early. Our room wasn't quite ready. We were able to leave our luggage in a storage room and use the facilities
We were given an upper floor apartment. Very clean and well decorated. There was a lovely double room . The bathroom was very spacious. kettle, microwave and fridge in room. The balcony was massive. The restaurant was very big. However, the tables were quite close together. At busy times can be overwhelming. The food was really nice. A good variety of food and drinks were self service. The pools are well maintained with plenty of loungers. The main pool is heated, If I had one advise for the hotel, is to heat the smaller pool for the younger children.
The animation team always friendly. Getting you involved in plenty of activities like darts, water polo, shuffle board etc. Also doing the evening entertainment which was really good. One member of staff that goes above and beyond is JACK. He always talks to the kids and smiling. He is a credit to the hotel. The hotel as a water park The kids mini slides are really good. There are bigger slides and a lazy river. There is a drinks bar in the water park. The only thing I would change is to make the drinks dispenser self service. The onsite shop is well stocked..We really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

Came here for a last minute break for a few days and it didn't disappoint. Relaxing atmosphere, everywhere was clean, food was great, they have theme nights in the second restaurant, we enjoyed Chinese and Italian nights while we we there. The staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. In our room we had a kettle, cups, but no complimentary teas & coffees, however they have tea bags & sugars in the restaurant areas and the pool bar, and you can buy your own milk in the onsite supermarket. There was also a hairdryer in our room and you get given little soaps, shampoos and body wash. This was my 3rd time visiting this hotel and I always knew I'd be back after my last visit 7 years ago. This was my partners first visit here, he really loved it and has already said he wants to come back again, and bring his 2 children as it's the perfect place for families with the Dino Park. Entertainment in the evening catered for all ages, consisting of things like bingo, quizzes, karaoke, and for the kids they had magicians and just dance competitions. Admittedly we didn't go in the pool as it's way too cold lol however we did enjoy a couple of sunny days and we have come back with a bit of a tan. I also recommend taking advantage of the free shuttle bus that takes guests to Playa Dorada Beach every hour through the day. It's a gorgeous beach, and close to restaurants, bars and cafes. Thanks Paradise Island, we will be back soon! :)

This hotel is very dirty . Haven’t seen dirtier hotel ever . Rooms haven’t been clean ages ago , even after cleaning ladies visit nothing changes. Sun loungers all dirty, pools dirty, bar tables dirty , empty cups , cigarette ends , newspapers everywhere. Even in the pool . Such a huge disappointment, you definitely do not expect that in the middle of Covid pandemic.

All staff are nice except the reception lady , she’s extremely rude and unhelpful.

Wifi is a joke , you have to pay extra (41€ a week ) but it’s not cover all the apartment, we could only use it in one room .

If only this hotel would be cleaned then it really would be a nice place you can survive with that rude women face in reception and that wifi is not that important if you do not have to work during your holidays but all that dirty surroundings puts you off massively
. Pools are good size , rooms are good size , food selection is minimal but at least food is delicious.
There’s no mini disco because of covid and mini club is only painting.
Evening entertainment is bingo and mostly karaoke its ok but after 3 days it gets really boring.

Please note there’s no shop anywhere near , you have to get a taxi

We stopped here in August 2022 and it was great. Greeted by very friendly reception staff upon arrival. Room was lovely, very spacious, good air conditioning, huge walk in shower, microwave and fridge in room too. We stopped with family and requested that we had rooms next to each other, which they did much to the delight of our daughter who could go and visit her grandparents when ever she wanted. The outside patio/balcony areas are very big and great for if you want to relax at your room. The swimming pools are small, but good. The big pool is salt water and the Children's pool isn’t. The water park slides are great, some of the best I have been on and a good area for small children too. The water park could do with a pool in my opinion to distribute people away from the main pool as it can get very busy. We went in school holidays so the sun bed situation was that you either get up early to reserve or you miss out. There are signs up to say you can’t reserve sun beds but nothing is done about it, we woke up around 6am to get sun beds together, which I don’t mind as I am up early anyway. I think the food is the best thing about this place. Amazing choice, constantly renewing food so nothing is empty, the pizza is excellent and there are always chips, chicken nuggets and fish fingers on for the little ones. Breakfast was also very good, eggs cooked fresh and lovely churros and pancakes on offer. The all inclusive drinks are good. I would recommend taking your own cup to either hand over to the bar staff or decant your drinks into as the paper cups aren't very good. The hotel is in a good location, if you like a walk then I would recommend waking up the volcano opposite the hotel, we did it at sun rise one morning and the views are excellent. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk to the shops/Beach or there is a free coach twice a day (but that was an experience, coach breaking down on a couple of occasions). The WiFi is awful, and don’t pay for the upgraded Wi-Fi as that is just as bad. The decking needs fixing in the reception bar as it is very dangerous but apart from that it was pretty much perfect. I would recommend for people to go here!

We decided on a break away and thought we would try somewhere different. We had a look at different hotels but thought we would try this one. The good the bad and the ugly . The hotel itself is ok I would say it’s starting to show it’s age. Check in was ok was shocked to be asked for a 60 euro deposit never explained about any entertainment or which pools were which .The rooms are a great size with a kettle fridge and microwave. A separate living room and bathroom and bedroom is very good and plenty of storage. I would say the cleaning is not great cobwebs in every room strange stains on the floor . And ants crawling over the kettle and cups which I asked reception to assist with which they sent a housekeeper around she come in wiped the side down then sprayed everything with bug killer when I say everything I mean everything cups glasses the kettle which to be fair did get rid of the ants. The food was ok pretty much the same every day only slightly different on odd days and definitely only one restaurant not the three they advertise. The staff in the restaurant area though are fantastic and really hard working and always polite and friendly.Only one bar until later in the evening we only found out about the entertainment because we could hear it going on not that there’s much room to watch it the drinks are ok typically local spirits but they do need more staff there. The pool area is ok if you like tripping over everything as there is no real space to walk which is not great as you need to walk through there to get to some of the rooms. Plus was not the tidiest of areas lots of rubbish left lying around which was not cleaned until our last day . The bus they advertise for the beach only goes twice a day but to be fair you can walk it in about 10 to 15 minutes or there’s plenty of taxis outside.

Like everyone else we were nervous about staying here due to the reviews! This is a very basic all inclusive, if you miss breakfast there is no food on offer as is advertised at the pool bar, they don't start serving until 12.30.

Rooms: Ours were lovely really spacious, plenty of storage nice view and big balcony, didn't find any ants! Only downside to the rooms would be the beds they are rock hard and not very comfortable but out of our 2 rooms beds were bed in one than the other so could just be luck? Cleaner was great and came every day except Wednesday.

Restaurant: Average at best, you will always find something to eat but it will probably be what you had the day before, it's very repetitive and not always the best quality. We ate out most days for either lunch or dinner.

Pool Bar: Soft drinks are warm and not very fizzy, cocktails are very poor, the best thing is the draught beer. The food here is alright but unless you go immediately when it is out the flies are all over it.

Water Park: Yes it's dated but our kids loved it and was the best thing about their holiday.

Lifeguards: Be very aware that although they advertise lifeguards at the pool they are in no way supervising your children. She sits well back from the pool unable to see anything, we witnessed a parent jumping in to help someone elses child who was in trouble and couldn't swim and the lifeguard was nowhere to be seen.

Entertainment: Dreadful! Very little for the kids throughout the day then at night about 30 minutes repeated every night, wee kids seemed to like it but nothing for oder children. We listened to a singer one night but she was so bad we left, never saw or heard anything about bingo, a magician another night but again poor. Lack of cleaning in the entertainment area, floors all sticky, toilets not clean and no soap in the toilets all week.

We never had a problem getting sunbeds but as it got closer to English half term towels were on the beds at 7 with no one to be seen. Laundry was great 6 euros, took 30 minutes and washing powder is all included.

Overall we had a nice time, the staff were friendly and helpful, they fix any problems quickly. We would not go back here due to the food and drink quality, also it is about 25 minute walk to Playa Blanca centre so just a bit too out the way but fortunately after reading the reviews we were just happy it wasn't as bad as we were expecting!

Firstly it is good to get away for the first time since covid!
Arrived approximately 9pm only one receptionist on duty but did not have to wait too long as we were the only family dropped off.
First thing we noticed was the lobby bar and Italian restaurant were closed. On entering our apartments (we had 2 rooms) one ground floor and one above we were pleased with the size of the rooms, however we did not feel the sofa beds were adequate for small children, so they slept in with us.
The rooms were not cleaned on a daily basis and the towels were only changed three times. The surrounding area to the rooms was unswept and dirty, not cleaned during our two week stay.
The buffet restaurant provided decent food but was repetitive and not much choice for kids, pizza, pasta and chicken nuggets most days.
The pool area was not very clean and some of the sunbeds were filthy. The first few days the hotel was only 40% full so getting a sunbed was not an issue, however as the hotel began to fill up if you got up after 7am there were none left, people were reserving them on their way to bed and not coming out until after lunch 1
There was no security on site to prevent this happening or indeed protect the receptionist who got a lot of grief from angry holidaymakers (not all English).
The second week the lobby bar opened with one barman who had previously been a waiter in the restaurant. After 12 days the Italian restaurant opened but was only used as an overflow to the buffet restaurant, no special Asian or Italian food was served.
The swimming pools and water park were good with plenty for the older kids, this area could have used extra sun shades especially round the younger children's section. Towels were provided when they were available and could only be exchanged twice per week.
I appreciate this is a hotel getting back to normal after covid, but surely based on the bookings they should have had the place cleaned and ready for guests. Everything was put down to staff shortages.
The lack of security allowed people to enter the hotel who weren't guests and were sleeping on the sunbeds. The bar shut at 11pm but people were helping themselves to drinks from the restaurant which did not lock it's doors.
The entertainment was basic, bingo, karaoke and the occasional dance routine.
This hotel needs to sort out it's problems, I would certainly not recommend this as a safe family holiday.

We went in January where the weather unfortunately wasn’t great. It would have been nice if there was more entertainment for the kids on the days where the weather wasn’t great.

We booked through On The Beach, would never book through them again as they have been most unhelpful on our return. The hotel have denied all of our complaints and on the beach do not wish to help. If we had booked through a company with a rep then at least you have a person to contact on holiday to rectify these problems.

The day after we arrived the Splash park was closed for the rest of the week. This was unfortunate because it was the main reason for choosing the hotel. Following a complaint, staff have said we were offered use of facilities at another hotel…. We got offered nothing and no other guests that we spoke to where offered anything or we absolutely would have taken that up.

We paid 40 euros for Wi-Fi in the room which worked for a day, when I asked why it wasn’t working I was told ‘I don’t know’ and no further help was offered.

A lot of the facilities were closed. The on site gym is a mild description of some outdoor facilities.

The kids park is run down and unkempt.

There is no Asian or Italian restaurant - it is some foods offered at the buffet.

The rooms were covered in bugs. The cleaners did come regularly however not much was cleaned and on one day it looked as though she just did a once over with a dirty mop.

I wouldn’t waste my money here. I think once upon a time it was lovely, now it is just very run down and some staff aren’t bothered at all.

I was there between 05/06 and 16/01. All the slides were open, the lazy river was closed the whole time. There was one day where the 3 slides that are at the top of the stair case were closed for about half the day.

The water park is open 11am I’m sure can’t quite remember but we went in January this year. The hotel is a bit out the way.. I mean you could walk but it’s like 15/20mins. Taxis are 3/4 mins down the by pass and they’re very cheap to get you to centre where all the restaurants etc are. We couldn’t walk it with our little girls plus some nights I didn’t have the right footwear to walk but some people did but it’s a fair treck esp after a few wines and it’s all up hill to the hotel at night. Taxis the best way but they are only a few euros and come quickly.
