After losing $25 to nearby Red Trail Campground when they would not refund our money over a tiny overcrowded tent site, we were very happy to find Medora Campground. Drew, the front desk manager, was very courteous and set us up with nice site for the night. The bathrooms and showers were decent and most of the sites have some large cottonwood trees offering some shade. The best thing about Medora Campground is that it is right at the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt N.P.

We tent camped during the pandemic. We got a spot with absolutely no shade. Medora is crazy hot in the summer and shade is a must. The tent area has no water or toilet which means you have to walk (not crazy far but enough for a toddler to be waddling) to the main bathroom. When I asked where to find water they told me to use the garden hose on the side of the building.
The pool was closed but thank god for the river without that we would have probably packed up and left. We had ample space between our neighbors but the camper area was extremely close. Proximity to Medora is great short drive to anything. The price is great if they were to update anything it would be a vaulted toilet in the tent area and a water spot.

We tent camped for 2 nights at site 9 and had a gorgeous view of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Our site did not offer much shade and it was hot for beginning of June, but flat so we appreciated that. You were able to park your car at your site and it only has a grill. They were under extreme fire warning so we could not use the grill. Our site was a considerable distance from the restroom, but when I reserved the site, the friendly young lady gave us one with beautiful views and it didn't disappoint. We did find the $25 nightly rate to be a bit high for primitive camping compared to many other places. It seems to be more an RV spot and they were adding more spots when we stayed. Since the campgrounds in TRNP were under construction, we chose this one and we would stay again, just wish it was a bit cheaper for what you get.

This campground ended up being a second choice after the campgrounds in Theodore Roosevelt closed due to COVID. Such a blessing! This campground has toilets, showers, beautiful scenery and close proximity to downtown Medora and the Little Missouri. Would absolutely stay again! Highly recommend!

Stayed in one of the new big rig pull through sites in the front of the campground. All utilities and picnic table were brand new. Staff less then informed when I asked them about the swimming pool - they told me to contact them directly when I asked the price - both are owned by the city

Retiredbeanctr, thank you for your review! Im gald your stay was nice. Just a clarification the Medora Campground is owned and operated by the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation. The pool is run and owned by the City of Medora and whose hours are not regular due to staffing issues. Thanks.

For tent camping this campsite really wasn’t great. At least in the loop I was in, the campsite was mostly dirt and weeds and had ant hills all over the place. There was also little to no shade, so my tent became an oven in the morning. Specific to the loop I was in, the closest bathrooms were also pretty far away.

They didn’t have a proper water refill station, at least not at the bathroom nearest me. The water hook ups were connected to a series of hoses, which really caters to RVs and not refilling a water jug. Similarly, they had a sink that looked like it would be for washing dishes near the series of hoses, but it wasn’t connected to anything, so I washed my dishes in the bathroom.

A few annoying things included construction starting at 8:30am on Saturday morning, bathroom closure for cleaning at 9am when most people are trying to get ready and get out for the day, and check in staff that wasn’t very willing to provide information. The staff related comment was very specific to the woman who checked me in, because a lovely man helped me purchase ice when I was leaving.

The main thing this campground has going for it is the location. It very close to Medora Musical and the south unit entrance to Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

We spent 2 nights at Medora Campground and the location can not be beat! It sits on the Scenic Little Missouri River and is also right next to the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt National Park South.
The staff at check in (the only time we saw staff) were very nice and polite. There is a small store adjacent to the office as well.
The sites seem to be nicely shaded my all the trees. There was a nice walking trail to the river.
The sites are SMALL, "cheek to cheek" as my sister likes to say. Our picnic table was technically on the next site. There weren't any fire pits but we did have a very wobbly grill. There was a lot if dust.
The bathrooms are old and in need of some care as well as badly in need of cleaning. They were filthy even by camping standards.
I would stay again, merely for the location.

We had to book a site when our reservations within Theodore Roosevelt NP were cancelled a month before our trip. We booked 2 nights at this place. Upon arrival, check in was fine. However, we got to our side (the smallest camping site I have ever had) and the grill was laying on the ground. You cannot have campfires here so this was our only way to cook. I went back to the office & let them know and they had a hard time understanding that they needed to fix it or find us a different site. They said, we'll have to charge the people before you. Well that doesn't help us. They did end up bringing us a new grill. The ladies next to us had no gear, then they explained they were overbooked by the campground and were just using the grill at that site. They did "make" them a site but it was literally their car on top of their tent. The bathrooms are in the middle of the campground. One bathroom with 3 stalls for women for the entire campground. 6 showers for the entire campground (there was always a wait). Neither were very clean. I am a regular camper, so I understand clean and camping clean. Trucks with trailers were parked into the "road" so it made backing out difficult (again, trying to squeeze in all they could). The experience overall wasn't great, the staff wasn't very friendly, and seemed to care less about anything. I would not recommend it to others. Quiet time started at 10 pm, but it was not enforced. It was more expensive than other parks and not worth the extra money.

We reserved our spot about 8 months in advance. We reserved a pull through long site. The day before our arrival we got an email saying it was a short site. We called and they basically said it depends on when you arrive on what spot you get. Then we arrived and got a back in site. So basically your reservation just guarantees you a spot, not what you actually reserved months ahead time. Very disappointing.

Thank you jessicak777777 for your review. We do try our best to honor the request of guests. Unfortunately, we can not reserve a specific spot in advance for our guests due to various factors that may be unknown : like site maintenance or stay length or rv length and slides not being reported properly. We apologize that the site you thought you would have wasn't available.

We camped in spot 614 with our 5th wheel for 3 days. Spots are very close with neighbors sewer just about 6 feet away from our side door. I backed up in spot as far as possible to try to stay farther away. The dirt all over the place is unacceptable. Gravel should have been used on roads instead of a heavy dirt and rock mix. If they sprayed the roads like others we have been to it would have prevented dust getting everywhere. We attended the Medora Musical and it was fantastic which made us tolerate this dirty campground.

thank yo so much for your review. As per our iconic historical figure, Theodore Roosevelt, we strive to be conservationists. therefore the use of dust reducing sprays defeats our purpose.

Howdy! The campsites are no discounts, no taxes. The price you see is the price that's charged. If there's anything else we can help with, please let me know!
