My girls and I stayed her for a girl's getaway and we could not have been more pleased. The room was cozy and very clean. I appreciate having a refrigerator in the room and love how Dana, the owner, sells reasonably priced water bottles and soda in the main lobby. She also provides filtered water so that you can just reuse the bottles. Dana was a fabulous host and gave us great tips for visiting the National Park. We went to the areas she talked about and enjoyed seeing many elk and even a moose. Dana went out of her way to make sure we were happy. We asked about using the hot tub on our last night and even though it closes at 9, she kept it open an extra 30 minutes so that we could have a chance to enjoy it. Lastly we loved being able to check out movies to enjoy in our rooms after a long day of hiking. We of course had to watch the Shining. :) This hotel is very reasonably priced and has a beautiful short walk into town along a river. I cannot wait to return.

Watermelon - We really enjoyed seeing your group visit Estes! I appreciate the compliments and kind words. Great guests are easy to satisfy - and make the whole experience better and more enjoyable. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Right now obviously there's a lot "going on" and we're thankful you chose our motel for your stay. Thank you again - and we'll see you soon!

Our stay at The Maxwell Inn was very enjoyable. The room was large and cleaned to a satisfactory level upon arrival. It is still a bit odd traveling during the “Corona Season” and that made a multi-day stay unique with housekeeping, but the owners were very accommodating to our needs. The location is perfect: very close to the shopping/eating section of Elkhorn, but far enough away to feel somewhat secluded. The Elk were regular visitors at The Maxwell Inn so that was a nice surprise to see them up close. If you are an adventurous type I recommend reserving the hot tub during a snow fall. Thank you Maxwell’s for helping make our Colorado trip a great one.

Mark - Thanks for choosing our motel and for taking time to write a review! Covid has changed the way we operate, and we're glad it wasn't a large inconvenience. We're all in this together, after all, and it seems like the standards and requirements change daily. It can be exhausting. Thanks again for understanding. Our website has pics and details of each room that we have available, and hopefully guests take the time to look at the room pictures and details so they get exactly what they want. We've got a wide range, from some more economical options that are on the smaller side, as well as some larger rooms with fireplaces, and everything in between. Being so close to downtown is a great benefit of ALL of our rooms - and you're close enough to walk without feeling inundated with the downtown traffic. We're close, but not too close - it's ideal. Thank you again - and we're glad you loved the hot tub during our early season snowfall!

Look no further than The Maxwell Inn! Family owned and immaculate - you can tell they take pride in their property and in making sure guests have everything they need. They were extremely gracious, warm and welcoming and very helpful when we asked for tips around the area. Easy walk from the hotel along the river to all the shopping and sights. Park your car and you never need to move it again! While this was our first time to Estes Park, we will only return to The Maxwell Inn and encourage all our friends and family to do the same! We'll be back!

While in Estes Park our first choice for lodging is always The Maxwell Inn! We have stayed at the current location (formerly Mountain Sage Inn) for many years and find it to be the perfect location of choice. The Maxwell family has updated and added new rooms over the past few years. The setting is picturesque and within walking distance to a variety of restaurants and shops downtown Estes. Fall River is nearby along with elk and other wildlife wandering close by. The entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is very easily accessed. Breakfast, for us, is perfect with an excellent choice of cereals, juice, fruit, yogurt an coffee if desired. The owners are very friendly and very helpful by providing any advise you may need pertaining to the national park or happenings in the area. We love it here and attempt to book a room well in advance. Nice folks with contented, friendly clients. We have never regretted staying at Maxwell Inn and are anxious to return for our next adventures in the mountains. Thank you Peter. Dana and family!

Railsbacks - Thank you SO MUCH for writing this! We very much appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. It's hard to believe it's going on ten years now! This year was difficult for us in a few ways, but we aren't unique in that situation! Reading about a wonderful stay helps us remember what we love about it and realize that our place can offer people a sense of normalcy and comfort when nothing seems normal! Thank you again and we'll see you soon!

Several positive reviews about the new river rooms, and they do look nice but it's important for people to realize that some of the rooms are not on the river and are very different. These rooms are quite outdated, small and dark with a window unit air conditioner that needs to run nonstop in hot weather. The bathrooms are very small. The location of this hotel is very convenient to the main shopping area is probably very adequate for a solo traveler. But if you are a Senior Citizen or have any mobility issues the small rooms are probably not for you- make you check ahead and book the right rooms. Nice staff.

BRW - Thanks for your review. Of the 670 reviews on TripAdvisor, less than 20 of them are about our river rooms, which are new as of this year. The remaining 650 are about the rest of our rooms - and the vast majority of our guests find those rooms just wonderful. I'm sorry you felt the room was outdated - it's entirely renovated since we took over the motel. There isn't a surface, material, or piece of furniture that you can touch that hasn't been replaced. We have taken the time to post a ton of photos on our website of each specific room type so that you can see EXACTLY what the room you book will look like. Because those pictures are online, it's truly disappointing when someone books and then expects the room to not look like the pictures online. We would humbly request that guests take the time to look at our photos so that they have realistic expectations instead of staying and expecting something other than what we advertise. We hope your future travels are safe and happy!

We stayed at the Maxwell Inn for 4 nights in June. The owners are wonderful, very accommodating, and a great source of knowledge for the trails and restaurants in the area. We stayed in an annex room and it was PERFECT for our family of 4. The rooms over there are (I would say) over-sized so we had enough room for all of our hiking gear and regular gear, extra places to sit, and really nice thick fluffy towels in the bathroom. The location is great because it is a very short walk to town, but it's not IN town so you don't have the noise, and it's literally 5 minutes from the entrance to the park. I was pleasantly surprised by every aspect of our stay - We would without hesitation stay here again!! Thanks so much for a great stay!

Molly - thanks for staying and thanks for the review! We have six different room types - perfect for any request or any budget. The best way to see them is on our website directly (themaxwellinn-dot-com). The Annex rooms are our largest rooms on average, however the new River Rooms are also each near 300 sq ft, but single bed. We're thrilled you enjoyed your time in Estes Park and that our location helped you get around easily and painlessly during a typically very busy time of the year. We appreciate the kind words, friendly guests make all the difference! Thank you again and we hope you can make it back out to Estes again!

We were lucky enough to get last minute reservations & are already planning return trips. From the first phone call regarding availability, I knew this was the place to stay. The owner is very accommodating, friendly, and resourceful. Our room was sanitary & comfortable, yet with a rustic appeal. The in room fridge, coffee maker, and microwave were convenient for a 4:30am sunrise photo session in RMNP. The very short walk (.25 mile) to downtown was scenic and safe.

Highly recommend Dawn Wilson photo tour and Inspired Artisan Market Studio for art lessons that leave you feeling a master artist.

771J - Thank you for coming to Estes and your visit to our motel! Thank you for the photo tour and artisan market studio recommendation - we appreciate the feedback so we can offer to others. Our location is one of the greatest benefits of our place - we're close enough to get quickly and conveniently into downtown, but far enough that you don't feel overwhelmed with people all around. We appreciate your kind words and honestly hope you understand what kind words like this mean during such a difficult year. Thank you again.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and we loved it! We upgraded to a room with fireplace and we’re glad we did. The first 2 nights of our stay was cold and the fireplace was perfect to have. The room was very clean and they have the important amenities you will need. The location is about 8 mins away from the RMNP entrance and a very short walk to town. We love Estes Park and would definitely stay here again.

DT - Thank you for the review and for staying with us! We know there's a lot of options in town - and there's a lot of vacation destinations all across our country. Choosing our place, and our town, is really appreciated. This season has been the "strangest" one yet - but kind, understanding, and friendly guests have reminded us why we're here. Thank you again and we hope you're able to return.

Enjoyed our second trip to Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park. We enjoyed another stay at the Maxwell Inn. It’s exciting to see the expansion of additional rooms. The family that owns and runs this business takes that extra effort to ensure you are welcomed and that your stay is exceptional. We look forward to returning in the future and brining our children and their families.

Y6960 - Thank you for the kind words, and for taking the time to write a review about your stay! The motel has been a pretty much constant project for the last eight years, and we've really enjoyed all of it. We take the time during the offseason to make improvements and updates and then spend the summer trying our hardest to deliver on the promise of a great experience for our guests. We look forward to your return - and we appreciate you choosing our motel!

Our two families stayed at the Maxwell Inn for 4 nights in August. This is a charming place right outside the main drag in Estes Park. The rooms here are big, clean and welcoming. They have A/C and a big ceiling fan, and some of them have a fireplace too. We love that the bathrooms have a fan that actually allows the room to not get all steamed up while showering. We saw Elk almost every morning, grazing around the Inn, which was really cool. In addition, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We arrived late at night on our first night and they called to let me know that they'd be putting a lockbox on my door to get the key from. I would go back and stay here again and again if I come back to Estes Park!
