A fresh-thinking citizenM hotel in the oldest neighbourhood in Seattle, Washington? It's a match made in travel heaven. The 216-room hotel - a sister of citizenM Seattle South Lake Union open since 2020 - will rise 9 floors up in the heart of downtown, in an area known as Pioneer Square. As usual at citizenM, it is impossible to walk in and confuse it with any other hotel. At the entrance, the self-check-in kiosks (instead of a reception desk) guarantee a super-speedy check-in and key pick-up. Guests can also by-pass the kiosks completely by checking in via the app. Beyond the entrance there's a signature citizenM living room (not a boring lobby) packed with ultra-comfortable Vitra couches, tables and chairs. The living room walls are filled with world-class art, books and interesting objects which give a nod to the city citizenM calls home. In the heart of the living room is the 24/7 canteenM kitchen and bar, serving our famous buffet breakfasts, superb coffee, signature cocktails, and hot lunches and dinners. Superfast free Wi-Fi flows through every corner of the hotel 24/7 - perfect for working or just sharing pictures from an exciting Seattle day. Our hot & cold breakfast buffet comes with unique local treats, familiar favorites, and healthy options for everyone — including vegans and vegetarians. Pile your plate with warm pastries, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and more.

CitizenM Seattle Pioneer Square offers a stay that resonates with guests for its central location near downtown and the modern, clean ambience of its stylish rooms. While opinions on value differ, with some travelers finding the dining affordable and others pointing out extra costs, the hotel is often praised for its friendly staff and efficient check-in. However, some visitors have experienced service inconsistencies and room size limitations. The amenities, including in-room iPads and a lively lobby, are a hit, though the occasional service hiccup and the compact nature of the rooms are noted.

An interesting experience, for sure. I’d say it’s more for the younger crowd than the baby boomer generation. It was conveniently near the train station where we were headed very early the next morning. We got in late the night before.
I will start off by saying when I entered the lobby I was “wow!”. It was colorful and unlike anything I’d seen before in a hotel.
There are kiosks for checking in which sent my non-techno partner in a mood 🤣. Fortunately there was someone there to help.

The size of the room was, well, small. We were headed to a cruise the next day and I felt this would certainly help transition us to the room size on the ship- except as it turned out the ship’s cabin was far larger than this hotel room.

I found the lighting of the room and the room itself intriguing.
There was no carpet on floor, which was probably a more sanitary choice than the carpeting in the typical hotel room.
The bathroom and shower were small areas enclosed by smoked glass.
The lights, curtains, etc were controlled by an iPad at bedside which reminded me of similar controls in hotels in Asia.
We never did figure out how to turn on the tv, maybe that was on the iPad as well 🤣.
The storage and safe were in drawers under the bed.
There is a small drawer refrigerator.
There was no iron which I was surprised by (unless it was hidden somewhere) so I ended up having to wear a wrinkled outfit.
The bed was enclosed by three walls so the person on the inside had to crawl over the person on the end. More of a challenge if you’re older
I think this is a great place for the younger, hip, techno savvy age group, which we clearly were not. It was not a bad stay. It was conveniently located and provided us a place to stay overnight. My partner was very frustrated because he does not like technology and tries to avoid it when possible.
Just be aware of the challenges if you are older

First time at a citizenM and I LOVE this hotel. Smaller room has everything I need, super awesome modern design, and is half the price of other brands with unnecessarily large rooms. Amazing integrated/iPad controls for lighting, HVAC, alarm, and casting content to TV/audio. Low-flow needle nozzle rain showerhead. Nice availability of basic snacks to buy in the lobby.

I’m not normally loyal to hotel brands but will seek out citizenM out in the future, I enjoyed this so much.

Negative points: automated check-in didn’t work with a New York State driver’s license. No coffee in-room and no complimentary coffee even in lobby seems a bit chintzy (though the coffee was very good). Can’t open window in room which is a big downer.

I freaking LOVED this place! The lobby is gorgeous and funky and the staff made check in easy. (I always feel a bit freaked out upon arrival so may not have easily figured out their automated check-in process but there was someone there to help).

Yes, the rooms are very small but i personally loved it. I loved being able to customize the color and mood of the room with a brilliantly designed iPad control center. I found the bed very comfortable. (An extra blanket would have been nice, however.) The overall layout out the room is very different than a traditional hotel room but i felt it was cozy and spotless and smart.

I would definitely stay at another CitizenM, but probably not if I’m traveling with someone (husband or kid). The rooms are great for one but mighty snug for two.

We spend almost $400 to stay for one night and we were treated like an inconvenience. When we were checking in, we wanted to ask a question, there was a guy standing there that was wearing a name tag which was the only reason I knew he worked there. He acted as though we were inconveniencing him and was rude, condescending and unhelpful. Throughout our stay, all of the other people working there acted as though no one else was in the room unless they were approached and they were forced to interact with guests. Most of our stay was tainted by this experience, it was completely different from our previous stay at the South Lake Union location.

Hi Destiny, Thank you for sharing this important feedback with us. Our reservations team passed along your message and I tried to reach you via e-mail, but unfortunately have not gotten a response. I take these matter very seriously as I can assure you that your interaction and impression of our team is not what we stand for. Since the traffic in our space has died down during this off season, we have put all of our efforts into ensuring we maintain awareness and ensuring every single guest is welcomed and comfortable. I can confidently say we have made great strides so far and only improving. With more details on specific interactions with our team allows me to investigate further and address it directly with the ambassador. Feedback is important to us as we aim to be the best for our guests. I understand if your poor interactions have left a bad impression of citizenM Pioneer Square. We would still love for you to give us another try to make it right in the future. Wishing you a happy holiday season! Warm Regards, Melissa

We stayed at CitizenM from Aug 17-20th. Staff at reception desk are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Check in and Checking out were both done very quickly. Room was very clean, bright and modernly decorated. Loved the toilet and shower stall, the rainfall style shower was so nice, and the lighting for it can change colours which gives a nice ambiance. Bed is a good size, and super comfy. Nice big window with a view of the city.Everything in the room can be controlled by a tablet which was convenient and user friendly. Great location by the harbour, a quick walk to lots of restaurants, bars and things to do at the harbour.Parking garage a very short distance from the hotel and is reasonably priced for overnight parking. Would definitely stay here again when in Seattle

This new chain is geared for the business traveler NOT A CASUAL TRAVELER. The rooms are a standard size of approximately 8ft wide the length of a bed by 12 ft if that long. You have no walk around the bed one of the party has to crawl over the other to get in or out of bed. Crazy but true. The sink is the size of a barbie sink. The shower is ok but if your not used to having a glass shower and bathroom yes the bathroom is frosted glass in your room next to the desk so you can see outlines of your other half sitting on the pooper and showering lol. This was a experience of all experiences that come from Europe. So unless your a traveler who does Europe this funky hotel will set you aback. We moved from our room to a handicap room to get enough room to move. It's that small. I made the comment they charge 45 bucks a night for a full service cruise meals and all your entertainment and at 200 a night for this hotel with nothing NADDA was crazy. No coffee nothing. Charged 85 bucks for 4 breakfasts that were the worst of the worst. I am still trying to get some sort of credit as this was the worst decision we have ever made in places to stay.

Hi Cam, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for allowing me the opportunity to discuss your experience further on a call. As we discussed, I understand your frustrations from different parts of your stay. Our room concept is not for everyone as we can seem small compared to traditional hotel chains. With the smaller blueprint, we try to maximize on space by providing all of the essentials in the room. I get how this layout can pose challenges for 2 people. We value all types of feedback, as we are constantly looking for ways in which we can improve and deliver on our desired guest experience. Thank you again for giving us a try and for your time post-stay. Warm Regards, Melissa

We booked into the CitizenM on Pioneer Square and stayed for three nights. As our first stay in a CitizenM, everything was new, and we loved the layout and coziness of the rooms. The electronic blinds, lights and climate control were fun and easy to use and very functional, the view from our room was great, and the rooms were quite soundproof. The availability of both flat and sparkling water on tap was loved by my kids. Would def stay again.

The rooms are small but very functional, with an in-room ipad or the CitizenM app on your own device to control everything from the lights and climate to the window shades, TV, and even the color of the room. No room service, but you can also use the app to order food for pickup from the kitchen downstairs.

We stayed here for 1 night, after the Taylor Swift concert in Seattle. Because of the event, everything was sold out or very expensive, which is why I gave a lower rating on value, but it was still a very nice stay. Lumen Field is < 10 minute walk away, and you're also right across the street from the water taxi and ferry terminal for an easy excursion to Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Kingston or West Seattle. If you're solo or a couple without too much luggage, this hotel is nice for a night or two. If you have kids, be aware that the rooms are just a single (very cozy) king bed, and not a lot of extra room, so probably wouldn't recommend sneaking them in - there's a reason the maximum occupancy is 2!

Well, I bought a package deal and this was the hotel that was in it. I was completely floored by how exceptional this hotel is. You control everything in the room from an iPad that’s in the room. It has mood lighting, Simple to operate shower with push buttons. Excellent Wi-Fi throughout the property. You can get views of Elliott Bay and the harbor It’s right across the street from the ferry terminal to Bainbridge Island. About a five minute walk from the Pioneer Square train to the airport. Full service breakfast all you can eat Very good food and affordable at around $19.84 per person. The staff was friendly and accommodating. And the art? Oh my gosh. There is art everywhere. There is a massive area on the first floor to sit and play games which they provide, Books everywhere, Full service bar that’s open 24 hours a day. I absolutely loved this hotel.

Amazing rooms. Spotless clean and friendly staff. Breakfast was amazing like a 5 star restaurant. The rooms come with controllable lights for showers and night curtains. All controlled through an IPAD, so high tech. I loved this place and would come again. One complaint though is parking, I wish they had their own. Although, they do have lime bikes and scooters out front for a fun ride.

I believe they said yes, but we didn’t use it. We had arrived early for the Seahawks game and simply left our luggage in the car. There’s no parking on site which seems to be a thing in Seattle…? So our car became our luggage storage until we were ready to check in.
