The JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District is celebrated for its unique amalgamation of art, history, and contemporary flair, with guests often applauding the hotel's pristine cleanliness and central location, which makes exploring nearby attractions a breeze. While the rooms are admired for their cleanliness and views, some travelers have voiced concerns about noise disturbances, especially from street activity and the rooftop bar. The hotel's amenities receive high marks, although the value is questioned due to steep prices and additional charges for parking and resort fees. Service quality appears to vary, with some guests experiencing delays, particularly with valet and room services.

What a great place! We have visited Savannah many many times and have stayed in many many different hotels and rentals. This hotel, although on the pricier end, is a breath of fresh air in an otherwise saturated tourist area. Built around the original power plant, it offers such a unique stay. The Valet people (there were several each time we needed them so won't mention just one name) were the best I've ever encountered. Pleasant, hard-working in all the stifiling heat, and very quick and efficient. What a great start! The front desk crew were just as pleasant and welcoming. The hotel itself is much more than just a hotel; beautiful, creative, welcoming, and inviting. A lot of people would just walk through that were not even staying on site to experience the atmosphere of the artistic lobby and original building. Our room had a window overlooking the atrium which was great. Not a water view but still a window with a view. The room itself was well-appointed, large, and comfortable and spotless. This hotel is more than just a room, they have curated a great "destination" feel. Like a resort, you really don't have to leave the property to have a great time. Of course, in Savannah you want to leave and explore and this location is perfect to do just that on foot if you want. We indulged at Baobab Lounge with great bartenders and delicious cold beverages; we had breakfast at Turbine Market & Cafe which was amazing; we had drinks and apps at Myrtle & Rose Rooftop Garden and really enjoyed the great view; we had dinner at Graffito and cleaned the plate as the pizza was really good; and finally we enjoyed gelato at District Gelato, yummy! There are so many options. They had live bands on the riverfront each night next to the outside restaurants/bars. Fun!
I don't usually write reviews but this particular hotel deserves one. If you can splurge and stay here, do! If not, at least visit the next time you are in Savannah.

A truly phenomenal hotel. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, the rooms are very well done, comfortable. We stayed in the main building and the only complaint I could really list here is during the day you can hear everything going on in the forum area. They often have live entertainment and you can easily hear them in your room. It does stop by 10pm though. If you're looking for a quieter room maybe choose the Three Muses location of the hotel.

There is almost no need to go out into Savannah while staying here. There is an incredible amount of restaurants and bars for you to take advantage of. The rooftop locations were a great place to hang out. It can be pricey (to be fair the whole area is pricey), but you're in tourist central so it is to be expected.

Location is amazing as well. You can park your car and never have to use it again while exploring the Savannah Historic District.

The JW Marriott is a great addition to Savannah’s Riverwalk. At the front desk, a beautiful rose quartz, I was greeted by Dontrez, although he was wearing a mask I could tell the greeting was with a warm smile. There were personal hand sanitizers and masks for guest and Dontrez offered me a glass of champagne and bottle of water while he went over the details of my reservation and highlighted points of attraction on a map – 5 star service. The rooms were nicely appointed, the riverview room provided great views of the cargo ships on the way to and from port. The property is pet friendly and there are multiple outdoor dining areas so your fido feels just as welcome. Don’t miss the amazing dinosaur and stone formations in the Plant Building. I had a lovely stay and hope to return for longer visit soon.

Well, where do I begin, it’s 1:30am Sat night Oct 17th 2020 (technically the 18th)and there’s complete chaos in our hallway on the 5th floor riverside. We’ve stayed here 6 different nights since they’ve opened this summer and the location is sick. Sunday - Thursday this place is a ghost town, but Friday and Sat nights be prepared to not sleep before 4am as management is unwilling to enforce any type of noise curfew after 1am when literally every restaurant on site and both rooftop bars are closed. Covid restrictions are in place but definitely not enforced. Like I said, location is great, and dirty river water view is decent, but maybe when construction is finally done in 2031 this place will be a well oiled machine. Beds aren’t as comfortable as Ritz or even Westin but decent. Poseidon Spa was cool, but be prepared to pay close to $200 each for a 50 min massage w/ tip like we did. We brought our own $200 bottle of champagne to the spa as we weren’t offered anything on our anniversary. Gym has no pelotons so leave your shoes at home... Valet only at $39/night is a joke as the underpaid and lazy valet children don’t care too much about their job, we valet’d 3 nights for $120 but then got smart and went to Whitaker garage for $5 Sat and $5 Sun less than 1/4 mile away. Other garages are even cheaper but most smell like urine. This place has so much potential and we hope when construction is finally completed next year things will be running smoothly and I can give more than just a 3 star rating.. this place can be described as Willy wonka meets Jurassic Park meets Xanadu from Citizen Kane... if you’ve been you know exactly what I’m saying. We love Savannah although 36 different restaurants claim to have the “best fried chicken” in Georgia. So far, most have failed including pirates house, lady and sons (Paula deans joint) cotton & rye, Husk, and the pink house. Only good fried chicken in Savannah is at Vic’s on the river (pleasantly surprised by this place) No joke, go there. We will return in 2021 fingers crossed and hoping for the best 🤞🏻🤞🏻. Management please pay attention and get it together, you have a gold mine with this property so please step it up so this property can be #1 in the Plant riverside district.

We would have given this hotel a five star review except for the criticism which we will leave to the end. First the positive. The hotel is beautifully located on the scenic riverfront. The staff were SUPER friendly and helpful right from the time we pulled up. The room was spacious and nice. There is a lot of planned activities at the hotel ( music and fun things for kids) and lots to do within easy walking distance.. The gym was well appointed and clean ( and empty) . But here’s the criticism. More than half the guests we saw in the crowded hotel were without masks. We were traveling from Maine to Florida and stayed at Marriotts all four nights. This was the first Marriott that, in our experience, has loose house rules around Covid. When we were in line checking in, four adult groups ahead of us,groups of three and four persons, did not have masks on at all and at no time did the front desk person ask them to wear masks. There were masks available for free at the front desk and the checkin people could have reminded folks that the Marriott brand follows the CDC guidelines and said “ here’s a mask if you need it, please wear it in our common areas for the safety of all our guests”. There were a lot of people congregating at various spots in the hotel and the fact that they have so many social outlets make this hotel so much fun but there was no social distancing ( the bars were packed which we avoided) and, again, no masks on so many guests.
The Marriott staff wore masks and there were Hand sanitizing dispensers throughout and that was great but for those of us who believe that the virus is spread by nose and mouth we were constantly trying to avoid non mask wearers. This hotel appeals to young people and there were a lot of young families there and those groups could be less effected by the virus. This pandemic has been hard on this industry and frankly it was nice to see the crowds and people traveling to hotels for fun again. We are huge Marriott fans and long time customers, but the looser way Covid was handled here compared to the other Marriotts we stayed at this week, was noteworthy in its handling of mask safety and is important to note for travelers concerned about the virus spread and the rapidly increasing illness numbers. If you are 55 or older and more susceptible I would avoid this particular Marriott until the virus abates. But when the virus is under control or when they strengthen their mask wearing expectations for guests in their common areas so we feel safer we will definitely come back because the hotel really has a LOT going for it.

It took me a bit to write this review because I loved the location and ambience of this gorgeous hotel. The staff were wonderful and the property has every amenity you'll need for your stay, particularly after the final addition is completed adding the swimming pool. The rooms are spacious and well thought out. The interior rooms, even though overlooking the atrium are soundproofed so there's minimal noise disruptions from the crowds passing through. First issue was the mini fridge wasn't working in my room, intead of repairing the fridge they brought in a second that also didn't work. They finally sent someone to fix the original fridge...no biggie. Second issue was something biting us in the room. After the first night, I explained it away as a possible mosquito bite. The second night brought additional bites that I explained away as I was sitting under a tree earlier that day. The final night we both could no longer deny our fears with bites appearing on legs, hands, and feet that we know we didn't fall asleep with. We called the front desk to let them know something may have been in the room even though we couldn't find anything. They offered to send housekeeping but by then we were about 3 hours from checkout and no one was going to get any additional sleep by then. We spent the rest of the night steaming all of our belongings as a precaution to not take anything home with us. Would I stay again absolutely, just request fresh linens, crap happens.

Dyf2013, thank you for sharing your experience. We truly apologize for the engineering issues you experienced, and appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We are very dedicated to our cleanliness procedures, which most definitely involves fresh linen change for each and every guest. We do take such matters with great care, and if you have a moment to provide us with a bit of follow-up information on your guestroom so we may investigate, it would be greatly appreciated. It is a nice hotel but I came away disappointed. We stayed I the three muses section which has its own entrance and because it is located away from the music venue on the river is a bit quieter in the evening. Of course it is also located a couple of minutes from the atrium , the bars, and most of the restaurants you see in the online pictures. Our room looked out on the Savannah river which I did not see much of a plus. Some may like the riverfront area, home to many bars, hotels and average at best restaurants but you should know you are at best a 10 to 15 minute walk, and almost as long a drive, from the historic squares and better restaurants. Valet parking is expensive, $45 , and it took on average almost a half hour every time we wanted our car. Paid public parking is available blocks away but in general I would say forget bring a car if your staying in this hotel.

Our room was fine in that everything worked and the bed was comfortable but the style of the three muses rooms did not work for me. I also normally expect a shower and a tub at JWs and this only had a shower, which while large did not have great water pressure.

In conclusion if you want to be on the river this is a interesting property but I can't say I liked the location as much as say that of the Perry Lane and the style, at least of the three muses building was not to my taste.

We booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary and were not disappointed. Exceptional service, unique style, perfect location and plenty of amenities. Prior to arrival I talked to the Concierge to arrange an anniversary welcome of chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. When we arrived at our fifth floor riverfront room, it was waiting for us.

Check in was quick as we requested early check in. Over the course of our visit the front desk staff exuded friendliness and helpfulness on our few requests and questions. Similarly, each and every staff member we encountered across the range of services went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

As others have reported the property is on the site of a former power plant and much of the original buildings have been repurposed. We found the motif very unique and appealing. It’s riverfront location is ideal for Savannah and you can almost touch the large container ships as they move up and down the river. The riverwalk itself offers a pleasant place to walk the waterfront and sample the other restaurants, bars, and shops along the way.

During our stay we enjoyed dining at several of the hotel's venues: Turbine Market Cafe, Stone & Webster Chophouse, Electric Moon Skytop Bar & Lounge, Riverside Sushi, and District Smokehouse. We enjoyed all of them. Special thanks to the staff at Stone & Webster for making our anniversary dinner special. We really liked the Electric Moon Skytop for their drinks, the river view, and their weekend live entertainment. Quite a fun place to while away an evening.

Ample entertainment over the course of the weekend too. In addition to live music nightly, we enjoyed the Oktoberfest activities and the Cirque du Davina show.

Some have commented on the auto valet service. We dropped the car off on arrival, our attendant, Shawanda, explained the process and arranged for the hotel valet to hustle our baggage to our room. On checking out, Shawanda had our car parked in front for a seamless departure.

All in all, the combination of the uniqueness, the location, and the wide variety of dining and entertainment sets this property above the others in Savannah. We have already made reservations for another visit!

If you do not mind being lied to (when the mouths move the lies travel), receive terrible housekeeping service and deal with a service that cannot even get a latte right, well this is a property for you.

It is the newest property in Savannah, filled with drunks that punctually arrive on Friday afternoon (sometimes on Thursday's evenings), become semi-comatose by Friday night, remain in a state of stupor on Saturday and, barely sober, depart on Sunday. Meanwhile they have managed to vomit in the elevators, get lost on the wrong floors, loudly screamed at their partners in the room and find themselves a bit lighter in the wallet.

The specifics:

Housekeeping: hit and miss on cleaning. Worse part of the stay.

F&B: one good restaurant: Tequila Company. one interesting bar/snack venue: BAOBAB, one terrible restaurant: Stone and Webster.
If you like salty oatmeal, tasteless coffee and average service try the Turbine Cafe'.

This a theme hotel (dinosaur and all) better suited for a Disney park than for historical Savannah.

The word social/physical distancing has never made it near the property. Guests simply make out in the common areas and in the bars as their senses become increasingly obfuscated by various adult beverage.

Valet parking is a show in and of itself. "Welcome to the Motel" is the standard greeting or, at the best, "... checking in??..." although the valet staff has seen you for 2 weeks.

When you book, beware to ask in which building your room will be located. Big difference, but same rate.

Loud music on the week end until 11;00 pm

Rooms are nicely decorated .

Some of the "Suits"/Managers, aimlessly walk around awaiting to get "off the clock". Some leave the post for a smoke every 30 minutes or so.

Do not send out your laundry, it comes back with unexpected surprises.

Summary: SMOKE & MIRRORS.

Way over priced for the room quality and service. Very disappointed that we received zero housekeeping service for a 4 night stay. We spoke to someone staying at Perry Lane Hotel nearby (also owned by Marriott) and they received daily housekeeping. Parking was ridiculous at $45 per day. We paid high "amenity" fees for no real amenities (no pool, bikes, etc). Sure there were on site restaurants, shops, etc but those could be used by the general public and were not "amenities" especial when it cost us almost $20 per alcoholic beverage at these places. Front desk staff always seemed rude and inconvenienced when we spoke to them. We have stayed at several higher end hotels in downtown Savannah and would definitely not stay here again or recommend.

There is street parking near/around this hotel but it's $25/night or more a night as well. Honestly, doing the $45/night valet was the best option when I was there. The street parking fills up really fast and rarely has any empty spots. Only downfall of this area of Savanah is not enough places to park.
