The rooms are very clean! Literally a walk across the street to the best beaches. Staff so friendly anytime went into the lobby area. To pick up coffee and quick snacks that they have provided. Recommend to stay when available.

They provide rentals such as chairs/ towels/ umbrellas at the front office for the beach right across the street. The breakfast guy is a big help when you go for your complimentary breakfast and he was the highlight of the mornings. Cute clean rooms with a scenic little garden- perfect place to eat your hot breakfast. I would recommend staying here if you go to Maui since they’re near the center of the island if you plan on traveling between the west and east sides.

We stayed at Kohea Kai for a golf trip this last weekend. What an awesome hotel in Kihei, centrally located between the airport, Wailea, and the north side of island. The property is located right across the street from the beach--it almost feels like a private beachfront. The hotel itself is great and the hospitality is top-notch. I had an accessible guest room that was spacious, offered all the features a person who has a wheelchair would need. There was even a small kitchenette which definitely comes in handy to whip up quick meals. Newly remodeled, the rooms offer triple sheeting, Ac, a view of the lush courtyard, and LCD TV and wifi. We had a group of 14 and each person had a different unique room type. We all had a comfortable stay and a great time. There is even a gazebo and a BBQ! If you are visiting Maui, Kohea Kai Resort is an excellent hotel.

The room was clean, with a king size bed; however, for a place that was supposed to be like a resort, the amenities were lacking. There were no towels offered for the pool (which was small and very cold), and nowhere in the room to hang towels used. The beach was OK, but you needed to cross the busiest road in Kehei to get there. There was no view from the room. There was a small frig, microwave and a full size coffeemaker. The included breakfast was poor. Overall, there was nothing special to recommend and for the price (nearly $700.00 total for two nights) it was not worth it.

We wanted to check out the Kihei area so we chose the Kohea Kai Maui due to it being across the road from the beach. The basket with water and treats was a nice welcome. The hot breakfast was really good and is above your typical continental breakfast; loved the flavored syrups. The room was clean and the grounds were lush. Only wish we didn't have to use a pull out couch for our kiddos. Even though it is located on a really busy street, the walls were thick enough (cement blocks) to block out traffic noise.

We would have loved to stay here, but this hotel really screwed us over. We booked a room through our Credit Card rewards site 3 months ago. The hotel oversold their rooms and decided to tell us our reservation was cancelled 3 days before we leave for Maui.

Trying to book a replacement 3 days before our trip was almost impossible. We booked a “Deluxe Suite Penthouse with Ocean View” through this hotel, but we had to settle for a hotel that wasn’t even near the beach. This is our honeymoon, so this kind of service really puts a sour taste in our mouths. Please think twice about trying to book a room from this place… you might find out a couple days before you leave that they have no room for you.

Aloha and Thank you for your feedback. We apologize but due to unforeseen circumstances with the room we could not rent out the rooms for safety reasons. Our other Penthouses were already booked which we would have been happy to upgrade you to, but sadly had to make a difficult decision by contacting your booking agent immediately which was back in January. We made several attempts to your booking agent to make sure that you were given amicable time and notice to find other accommodation. We were assured that they were going to take care of you and nothing was needed further. Again, we apologize and hope that in the future you will give us a chance to serve you. Thank you Luseane Moa General Manager

If this place was say $99 a night, I'd probably rate it higher. The reality is that they're currently getting $300+ a night and the hotel just isn't worth that - not even close.

The good:

Staff are polite and the rooms are spacious and clean (maybe too clean, given the extreme smell of bleach after getting housekeeping). Fridge is an excellent size. Wi-Fi works generally decently.

The Bad: Overpriced, poorly located, deceptive title as a "resort," a very tight parking lot, a resort fee that is not disclosed at booking, the bathroom has neither a toilet paper roll holder nor a proper towel rack. We got one tiny bottle of shower gel and no hand soap, making us need to break out our reserve to wash our hands and use shampoo for showering.

Honestly, the Days Inn is better at the budget end and probably cheaper. Definitely not coming back to this place.

We live in Pukalani (Maui) and I wanted to take my wife out for an overnight date sans kids. I saw Kohea Kai in Kihei (we like Kihei) online and the price was reasonable compared to a lot of other rentals so I reserved a room. The outside was not fancy but when we walked into the room we were both very pleasantly surprised at how much we liked it; the A-frame vaulted ceiling, the little balcony. and it was really clean. I would have enjoyed a week there and I recommend it to anyone wanting to be close to the beach without needing to be close to the most popular beaches (just a mile or two down the road). Just a few steps to a nice beach.

I stayed for one night on December 14, 2022. It is a smaller and older property, but I found it to be very clean. I was upgraded from a standard room to a Junior Suite Room 323.

I think that my room had been renovated. There was a small kitchenette area with a microwave, mini refrigerator, and coffee maker.

The room was bigger than I expected. The king bed was a bit too soft for my liking but there was a assortment of pillows to choose from. There was a desk and 2 chairs. The ceiling fan and air conditioner worked really well. The lanai had a table and 2 chairs. There was peekaboo view of the ocean.

The shower was large. It took a few minutes for the hot water to get hot but not a big deal. The toilet seat kept shifting.

The pool is small, but the beach/ocean is literally across the road. There are chairs, beach umbrellas, and coolers to borrow which is a huge plus. I saw that there were 2 bikes and helmets that you can also borrow, after signing the waiver.
There is also a lovely garden area in the back. A BBQ and hot tube are available to use, but you need to reserve these.

There are complimentary breakfast and afternoon snacks available. I think that there are only 2 restaurants within walking distance, but you are walking literally on the side of the road alternating with sidewalk. One must be careful as the road is very busy.

I had the pleasure of meeting Carol and Lucy who were at the Front Desk. Two amazing human beings. Carol offered me some of her personal food after I told her that I was so hungry and disappointed that there were not more food options/restaurants within close walking distance. When I was speaking to her the next day, she said I should have taken her car. What? This woman doesn't even know me. Lucy was so kind in answering my numerous questions and requests. She was so patient with me, and allowed me a little extra check out time after I told her that I rode the bike to so many places and was in desperate need of a shower before checking out. Thank you Carol and Lucy for being so kind, gracious, and helpful to me.

I was hoping to love this place after I read the reviews. Maybe it just depends on what room you stay in, but I’m paying $415 for a room with locked windows and cinder block walls. (Yes the windows are locked close) I wanted to change hotels when I checked in, but it was too late. If my expectations were set at a $150 a night motel, I’d have been fine with it. But this is the least nice place I’ve ever stayed for $400 in my life.
This is not a resort and should not be charging $25 a night for a resort fee. It’s a motel that should be advertised as such. I know I’m not the first person upset that I’m paying $25 a day for a beach towel and some ice water and a plastic cup in the lobby.
I’m sure the staff is very friendly as other reviews have said but I haven’t had much experience with anyone.

How much is this hotel per night?
Answer from Cathy M

We paid $233 a night in September. I agree with the previous post-er that it would be nice to face the beach and have a view from the patio. Our first two nights, we were right on the street, which was close to the beach but noisy and a little too close to the water at a time when Hurricane Olivia was threatening. The manager was most gracious in moving us to a second floor room with a better ocean view, and we felt more secure as well as happy with the view. As the last post-er said, we were happy with the breakfast and the staff there.

I apologize but what email are you emailing? We did make some changes to our email so that could be why. But yes you may always contact us directly or through choice. Our number should be online. Our cancel policy if booked directly is 72 hour prior to your arrival and we do require 1 night deposit which is fully refundable if canceled outside of the 72 hour policy. Upon your arrival we charge the full amount at the time of check in. Hope this answers your question or please contact hotel directly (808)879-1261. Mahalo

Children are welcome. Their Website says it’s family friendly. You probably won’t see a lot of kids as most of the rooms have a king bed as far as I am aware.

Your right it was good. I’ve had a couple of back surgeries and I did sleep well there. I would tell you to email them. I know that other places will tell you, as I have done this myself to get pillows sheets I liked.
