The Villas Steffany is really a little niche spot in busy Guayabitos. The villa is a home away from home for retirees who stay upwards of 3 months at a time. There is a 6 year waiting list to stay in January. We went with friends who were already booked to stay. Unfortunately this villa was just not for us. The beds were so hard, I know Mexico hard, times that by 10. If our friends weren’t joining us, I probably would have moved after 1 night. The place is really old & in need of upgrades. The upside, the beach is stunning and the area is full of amazing street food. Overall we loved the area, the villa was just a little too quiet for us.

This is classed as a five star but in reality it should be a three star. It is an older hotel with 32 self contained units.the staff have put a lot of effort into keeping it up, but it should replace the furniture and do some upgrading.
The staff are very helpful and courteous, they deskclerks speak very good English. All the rooms face the ocean, the grounds are kept up nicely as is the pool although the pool is not heated.
The hotel is located in the center of the beach in the town of Rincon de Guayabitos one hour north of Puerto Vallarta. Travel is available by bus or taxi, the bus costs about $8 per person and a taxi is anywhere from $60 to $120 depending on your negotiation skills,I prefer to deal in pesos and I pay 600 to 700 pesos one way

This is a nice hotel that is showing it's age, at one time it was the premier hotel in Rincon de Guayabitos but because of the owners reluctance to spend money on upkeep and modernization it is slowly loosing it's luster. In spite of the lack of support and financing from the owner the staff are doing a magnificent job keeping the place running even though there is no manager to assist and direct them.

This year, when visiting Guayabitos, we rented Room #'s 105 and 106. In one room we had my husband and myself and my mother in law. In the other room we had our daughter and her boyfriend and three kids. The units were super clean. Our maid was the best I have had in Mexico and the hotel was very accomodating to every need we had. It was rather quiet this time of year, with the exception of a few days during Revolutionary Holiday, but even then the people were so friendly and nobody was loud. Our grandkids played with the Spanish children and even learned a few new words to add to their repertoire.

We reserved 2 villas for a grand total of 8 of us. My girlfriend's 4 kids 2 grandsons and us. Can't beat the features and the service value for your money, beautiful beach, quiet at night, very nice, helpful and friendly staff. We will definitely stay there next time on our trip to Guayabitos

My husband and I have enjoyed staying at this hotel several times over the past few years. This is our #1 choice in Guayabitos. The staff is wonderful, the rooms are clean and the prices are fantastic. The location is great and the fresh juice bar out front is a must every morning.

This hotel is on the beach with a great lobby, nice grounds and good pool. The hotel is older and the rooms and furniture show their age some. We have stayed at this hotel twice, once in 2011 and now in 2013 and there have been no upgrades. I would rank it 3 stars. Our room had an ocean view with balcony and a mini kitchen. Even though we didn't cook, the refrigerator was handy for cold drinks and making ice. We enjoyed the location of the hotel at the north end of the main beach, a little out of the noisy zone. But you are still in the main part of town and can easily walk to food stores and restaurants. The good or bad news is that Tonita I is located on the property. That makes it very convenient for wonderful food and drink, but the late night noise on the weekend can be annoying if you are looking for quiet. The staff speak English and are helpful and other guests are often Mexican families and Canadians.

This January was our first stay at the Steffany. We found the staff very helpful and cooperative! Yes, some desk staff struggle with English, but we struggle with Spanish and it is their country, after all. They were always able to call on someone with whom we could communicate.
You can’t beat the location on the beach! Clean, well maintained, less busy than the other end of the beach.
It’s obvious that this property was magnificent in its glory days. Staff were very busy making needed updates while we were there but it never interfered with us.
We explored many condos while we were there and found nothing which offered the value of the Steffany. We loved the small size of the facility, separate bedroom area, condo size, and will return next year.
The fact that you have to go on a wait list to get extended accommodations during high season is a good indicator that folks return here often.

Let me start by saying this used to be our favorite place in Guayabitos (I gave a 5 star review last year) we had stayed there for several years in a row. Unfortunately we had such a bad experience this year that we will not be staying there ever again. The new management is terrible. Here is my story, sorry it's a bit long.

I called the hotel a few months ago and made our reservation and at that time I asked if I could get a confirmation number and leave a deposit. I was told that neither were necessary. I asked a second time to confirm and was told again that it was not necessary and that our reservation was all taken care of. We even spoke about exactly which room we would be staying in because they were almost all booked for the time of our stay and the room we wanted wasn't available. Everything seemed fine...until we arrived. When we walked to the front desk to check in we gave our name to the young man behind the counter, he looked for our reservation, asked us to wait a moment and called over the manager. She told us that we did not have a reservation and that the room we were supposed to stay in was reserved by someone else. She asked when we made the reservation and who we talked to. Unfortunately, I didn't get the persons name when I made the reservation. She explained that I should have gotten a name and started to make us feel like we had done something wrong. She never apologized and started to get a bit rude. She did let us know that there was one room available. While we were bummed that we didn't get our original room we were relieved to have a place to stay since we had no place else to go. It all went downhill after that.

They gave us the keys and the remotes for the room. When we walked in the room had not been cleaned. Dirty towels and the floor and the bed not made. We went back down to the desk and told them. They had housekeeping come and clean the room.
We began to unpack and settle in for our 11 day stay and started noticing what bad shape this room was in. The dresser only had one working drawer and it barely worked. Both toilets leaked on the floor and the furniture was pretty nasty. Ok, we know this hotel is older and we could get past that because we're going to be outside most of the time anyway.

That night when we sat down to watch a little TV before bed we couldn't get the remote to work. I took it to the front desk and asked if someone could check it out for us. They said they would have someone come up, no one came. A couple hours later we tried to use the stove and it wouldn't light. I went back to the front desk and the guy tossed me a book of matches and kind of laughed. I mentioned to him that the place is falling apart and that no one came to check the TV. He actually started arguing with me and mentioned that we didn't have a reservation and that we screwed up. He was wagging his finger at me and getting pissy and all of a sudden my husband was next to me telling him to not speak to me that way. My husband had been watching/listening to the conversation between me and the guy at the desk and got very angry because of the way the guy was treating me (it takes a lot to get my husband angry). We went back up to our room for the night.

The next morning I was going to cook breakfast and there was no frying pan. I went to the front desk and asked for one. The manager came over and said something about me yelling at her employee the night before and told me that I can't talk to people that way, that they are just workers. I explained to her what happened and again she mentioned that we didn't have a reservation and that it was our fault. I said why would we come all the way to Mexico from the US and not have a reservation! That was the moment we decided we aren't staying at this hotel ever again. I've never been treated so badly by anyone in customer service in my life. As I mentioned in the subject line, this hotel is under new management. It's a shame because the people that used to work there were so wonderful.
