The staff are very helpful and courteous, they deskclerks speak very good English. All the rooms face the ocean, the grounds are kept up nicely as is the pool although the pool is not heated.
The hotel is located in the center of the beach in the town of Rincon de Guayabitos one hour north of Puerto Vallarta. Travel is available by bus or taxi, the bus costs about $8 per person and a taxi is anywhere from $60 to $120 depending on your negotiation skills,I prefer to deal in pesos and I pay 600 to 700 pesos one way

Rincon is old mexico but interesting
we went to church on sunday all in Spanish but man was the music nice
the streets where under construction at the time but it didn't stop you from walking down town
You can’t beat the location on the beach! Clean, well maintained, less busy than the other end of the beach.
It’s obvious that this property was magnificent in its glory days. Staff were very busy making needed updates while we were there but it never interfered with us.
We explored many condos while we were there and found nothing which offered the value of the Steffany. We loved the small size of the facility, separate bedroom area, condo size, and will return next year.
The fact that you have to go on a wait list to get extended accommodations during high season is a good indicator that folks return here often.
I called the hotel a few months ago and made our reservation and at that time I asked if I could get a confirmation number and leave a deposit. I was told that neither were necessary. I asked a second time to confirm and was told again that it was not necessary and that our reservation was all taken care of. We even spoke about exactly which room we would be staying in because they were almost all booked for the time of our stay and the room we wanted wasn't available. Everything seemed fine...until we arrived. When we walked to the front desk to check in we gave our name to the young man behind the counter, he looked for our reservation, asked us to wait a moment and called over the manager. She told us that we did not have a reservation and that the room we were supposed to stay in was reserved by someone else. She asked when we made the reservation and who we talked to. Unfortunately, I didn't get the persons name when I made the reservation. She explained that I should have gotten a name and started to make us feel like we had done something wrong. She never apologized and started to get a bit rude. She did let us know that there was one room available. While we were bummed that we didn't get our original room we were relieved to have a place to stay since we had no place else to go. It all went downhill after that.
They gave us the keys and the remotes for the room. When we walked in the room had not been cleaned. Dirty towels and the floor and the bed not made. We went back down to the desk and told them. They had housekeeping come and clean the room.
We began to unpack and settle in for our 11 day stay and started noticing what bad shape this room was in. The dresser only had one working drawer and it barely worked. Both toilets leaked on the floor and the furniture was pretty nasty. Ok, we know this hotel is older and we could get past that because we're going to be outside most of the time anyway.
That night when we sat down to watch a little TV before bed we couldn't get the remote to work. I took it to the front desk and asked if someone could check it out for us. They said they would have someone come up, no one came. A couple hours later we tried to use the stove and it wouldn't light. I went back to the front desk and the guy tossed me a book of matches and kind of laughed. I mentioned to him that the place is falling apart and that no one came to check the TV. He actually started arguing with me and mentioned that we didn't have a reservation and that we screwed up. He was wagging his finger at me and getting pissy and all of a sudden my husband was next to me telling him to not speak to me that way. My husband had been watching/listening to the conversation between me and the guy at the desk and got very angry because of the way the guy was treating me (it takes a lot to get my husband angry). We went back up to our room for the night.
The next morning I was going to cook breakfast and there was no frying pan. I went to the front desk and asked for one. The manager came over and said something about me yelling at her employee the night before and told me that I can't talk to people that way, that they are just workers. I explained to her what happened and again she mentioned that we didn't have a reservation and that it was our fault. I said why would we come all the way to Mexico from the US and not have a reservation! That was the moment we decided we aren't staying at this hotel ever again. I've never been treated so badly by anyone in customer service in my life. As I mentioned in the subject line, this hotel is under new management. It's a shame because the people that used to work there were so wonderful.
