Detailed Reviews
Very average place to stay. Room was clean and neat, which was nice. You could tell it was clean because you could smell the cleaner in the bathroom. If you have allergies to fragrance, this may be a bad thing but it didn't bother me. Restaurant is located downstairs and all the staff at both are nice.
Things I was a bit disappointed by were the mention of a lock box on the check in card, but the room didn't have one. There was no creamer in the room for coffee or tea, I had to ask the restaurant for some. They offer room service but there was no pamphlet or menu detailing this in the room.

Well, it's good to know that not many changes have been made since 2010. We had a 2 queen on the bottom floor. When we arrived, it smelled OK, but after leaving and coming back, the floor felt damp, and the room smelled musty. I told this to the staff at the front desk when checking out.
The staff were very friendly but please get rid of the old carpets and the jail cell wall paper.
The beds were very comfortable.

Diane, Peter, Yvonne and staff:
On behalf of the Heritage Run Tourism Association and myself, I would like to say thank you to everyone who made our day event (destination seminar) yesterday a success. We appreciated being able to set up early in the previous day and the experience from
your staff as to the best set up to accommodate our needs. The lunch was delicious and the staff were professional, courteous and
efficient - thank you and we look forward to future events at your Hotel and Convention Centre.

Had a great stay, clean and simple rooms. Were very accommodating with late check out to allow me to pump, offered to store breastmilk for me so that it stayed cool until we were ready to leave. Then proactively had another room key card ready in case the previous one didn't work (as check out time had passed). Really appreciate how accommodating they were.

The kids had a hockey tournament this weekend and the staff were amazing to accommodate all of the teams. They went over and beyond to make this a memorable and fun trip. The rooms were spotless, prices are great and the food was good. Thank you and I hope we will be staying there next year.

This Hotel is the worst hotel that i have ever had the unfortunate chance to stay in. I stayed at Hotel Marystown for two night in August 2004. My sister was playing in the summer games and she and my mom had come for a visit. I had not seen them in almost three years and was very excited about the trip. I also had never been to Marystown. Well if I ever go back, I won't be staying at this hotel. They have no air-conditioning. You can't open the windows. I asked for a non-smoking room on the 2 or 3 floor and I got a smoking room right next to the lobby on the first floor. You would get more pressure if somebody peed on you then you get from the shower in this hotel, and every 2 minutes the water goes cold. The Hotel is very old. The paint is peeling and it smells funny (like your great grandmothers house might smell) They don't have an ice machine (you have to walk through the middle of the restaurant while people are eating their meals to get ice from the rude waitress) They placed me in a room that was directly across from a conference room where that summer games people were having a party all night with their door open. smoking and drinking in the hallways. When we called out to complain about the party were were told to call back later. Later we were told that they would ask them to close their door but could not make them. Still later we never got an answer at the desk. At 2 a.m. the party was still as loud as ever and we had to get up at 6:30a.m. The next morning they would not let us have our "continental breakfast" (which is just a plain bagel and coffee) to take to our room. when we tried to get room service delivered we were told that they were too busy. Our second night there, the party had been moved but now there were 3 or 4 kids running up & down the hall all night long and no parents to be found and again nobody at the desk. When we checked out of the hotel I had asked to see a manager and was told that they don't work on weekends (must be nice!) I left a message with my complaints and my number and was assured that I would be contacted the next day by a manager. It was almost 1 month and 25 calls later when she finnally did call me. I was at work and she left a message that said she called and to call her back. a month and a half later and another 30+ calls later I still have not spoke to her.
Please don't be discouraged from visiting Marystown. The community is lovely and most of the people are quite friendly just please stay at a different hotel. I hear there is a new one just down the street that is quite nice.
Also I invite anyone else who may have had a similar experience to also post a review. We can't just sit back and let these people think that they can walk over us because they can't. I will continue to try and get my $200 for 2 days refunded even if I have to go to the owner of City Hotels himself.
I would also like to see the manager of this Hotel respond to my complaint.
Thank You for you time,
Tracie

I have been to Marystown for 4 weeks over the last three months. Each time, I stayed at this hotel… as it is a ‘corporate supplier’.
The hotel is an old run down building in the middle of town. The lobby appears to be nice, but as you start off on your trek down the hallway things go down hill quickly.
I had stayed at this hotel 2 years previous, and there were signs posted on the doors that said “sorry for the inconvenience, but we are renovating our hallways”. 2 years later, the signs are still in place, the hallways HAVEN’T changed. The wall paper is peeling, there are stains on the carpets… and not just a few. The smell in this hotel is disgusting. It smells like a cat litter box that hasn’t been changed in years.
The rooms are just as bad as the hallways. Very small, and totally outdated. The beds (in each room I stayed in) was old and sagged in the middle. The carpet was stained an soiled, the chair in the room had some nasty stains as well. The bathroom is very small as well. Hardly any counter space. Be warned that when you turn the taps on, the water comes out brown.
When inquiring at the front desk about a different room, I was informed that I was in the ‘renovated room’. Good to know.
My co-workers rooms were in equal to worse shape than mine. It is really clear that the managers / owners of this hotel don’t care about your stay. There is no pride for this hotel at all.
The restaurant is a joke too. As like the rest of the hotel, it is so dated its funny. The carpet is worn in a very distinctive routes. The food is average at best.
I asked about a fitness centre, and was told by the front desk clerk that the fitness room is in the basement and she recommended going across the street to the gym. When I went down to check out the fitness room, it had a few pieces of equipment from the 80’s and in really poor condition.
When you leave the hotel, all your clothes smell as bad as the hotel.
I can tell you after 4 weeks in this dump, I refuse to stay there again.

I was in Marystown for my uncle's birthday party last week. I wasn't expecting much from the Hotel Marystown, but I was hopeful since they were touting their renovations.
I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I walked into our room. It was disgusting. The bed was ancient and completely uncomfortable. There was only one lamp. There were extension cords snaked on the floor. The carpet was covered with assorted stains. There were exposed pipes, and of course, it's always loud.
I seriously considered sleeping in the car, but we sucked it up for two nights. The third night we moved to a B&B in nearby Mooring Cove.
On a positive note, the shower wasn't bad.
Word to the wise. INSIST on getting one of the renovated rooms. I saw one on my way out. I'm glad they're renovating (slowly, though, I fear), but there should be a lower price for the rooms that should have been renovated many years ago.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Marystown and I have to say that it was a most enjoyable experience. Unlike the other review on this site, my stay was both pleasent and relaxing. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous and made me feel right at home. After speaking with some of the staff I found out that there was a recent change of owners and management at the hotel. I can only assume that with the new management, changes were implemented to improve customer service and their experience. Whatever the changes were it seems to be working. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit the area and would definately stay there again myself the next time I am visiting the area.

I stayed here this past weekend and what a horrible experience. I will say that the room was clean but that was the only positive thing that I can say. I was there with my son for soccer so we had two early mornings, we needed sleep. Friday night there was a wedding and a DJ in the hotel bar, all we could hear was music until 2:00 in the morning. The second night was worse, another wedding and a band in the hotel bar. The party room was above us, that was a nightmare. They asked our boys to keep the noise down around 9:30/10:00 and we respected that they all had a curfew between 10/10:30. I called the front desk around midnight and asked about hotel quiet time and was told that there is one but we are hosting a wedding tonight. Not sure why that mattered, it doesn't matter what your reason is for staying there everyone should be treated with the same respect and hospitality. I am not sure if they spoke to the people above me or not but the noise did not stop. My son had to play soccer the next morning on 4 hours sleep. When we booked our rooms we asked if we could be put together but we were told that they could not accommodate. Maybe if they put us together and tried to group some of the wedding goers together, we all could have had a better stay. As for the staff, well, one guest services staff was very nice the other could use some training in hospitality and how to talk to people. The restaurant staff was pretty much the same, the evening staff could do with some courtesy and hospitality training but the morning staff were very polite and courteous. If you know that your hotel is totally booked you should have more then 2 wait staff in your restaurant.

Response from PeterK431, Operations Manager at Marystown Hotel & Convention Centre
Responded Sep 3, 2015
It’s always disappointing to hear from customer’s who didn’t enjoy their stay with us. Your comment “it doesn't matter what your reason is for staying there everyone should be treated with the same respect and hospitality” is absolutely correct. We stress the importance of this to all our staff and we’re saddened to hear you received anything less than respectful, hospitable service. We also try to keep groups together but depending on the volume of business and the time of booking we can’t always accommodate everyone’s requests.
