Long ago, before Ogunquit had a library, a bridge that connected the mainland to the beach, street lamps, or even electricity, there stood The Colonial Inn. Now the last of the grand hotels of Ogunquit, The Colonial Inn has provided shelter and genuine Maine hospitality for over 130 years. Over the years the inn has expanded, growing into a beautiful and welcoming getaway destination with four different buildings that house a variety of accommodations, a heated outdoor pool & hot tub, fire pit, lawn games and a beautiful wrap-around porch to enjoy the fresh air and truly relax. Commanding a premier location in the center of Ogunquit, halfway between downtown and Perkins Cove, The Colonial Inn serves as a convenient vantage point from which to explore all the great activities in Ogunquit. The hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from the entrance to the idyllic coastal walk, Marginal Way, a five-minute walk into the village of Ogunquit, and a ten-minute walk to the beautiful beaches that have made the area a popular vacation destination.

This inn is beautiful and handicapped accessible! I use an electric scooter. Although the front of the inn has about 5 steps, there was a one-person lift located in the back of the main building to get me to the "lobby". The "lobby" has a huge seating area with many comfortable chairs and tables and a beautiful piano! Breakfast was included. Because of COVID-19, the breakfast was "grab n' go". Cereals, yogurts, fruit, individually wrapped muffins. There were tables on the huge wraparound deck that we sat at every morning for breakfast. We had a gorgeous, huge, ADA room (Room 101) with a roll-in shower. It was perfect. The bed was so very comfortable. My only issue (I am only 5"1') AND handicapped, was that the bed, with its large, thick mattress and boxspring, was that I had alot of trouble getting onto the bed because it was very high off the ground! Because of COVID, there was no housekeeping service for the room but anything that was needed (fresh towels or toiletries) were readily available on request.
The Inn is located less than a 10 minute walk from town where most of the shops and restaurants can be found. No car needed which was great!
I would highly recommend this Inn to anyone visiting Ogunquit!

We had been on a 10 day road trip prior to arriving to Colonial. We chose Ogunquit for its walkability. My husband had to work while we stayed there so we wanted a place where my son and I can have daily adventures and my husband could work comfortably. Colonial Inn offered a great location and a very comfortable stay. The fact that it was the only place we stayed in during our road trip with daily maid service (during covid) was a giant cherry on top. I love a freshly made bed.

The main hotel has a great wrap around porch with varied seating and my husband found his perfect spot to work from each day. He was even able to still work from the porch on a rainy morning. Wifi was good and he had a plug for his laptop. Staff quickly resolved 2 minor issues he had with wifi and electricity. We were able to walk to anywhere we wanted. We never needed the car the whole time we stayed there. Free parking was a blessing because everywhere we saw paid parking it cost at least $20 for a few hours. Bring a wagon or a cart for your beach gear. Many people had the backpack type chairs for the beach. We took the trolley back from the beach once for fun but it was also convenient ($5 adult, $3 kids) since it dropped us off in front of the hotel. You can stay on the trolly for the whole loop of you like. Check your route before boarding.

The room was lovely, roomy and had its own little balcony area. The 3 of us didn’t feel cramped. Room had a fridge and a microwave. Breakfast was grab and go. You had lots of outdoor options on the property to eat your breakfast. It usually offered coffee, breads, cereal cups, pastries and yogurt. The brands of items varied but sometimes you’d get really lovely items, like whole milk yogurts. A few days offered hard boiled eggs.

The staff was super friendly. We loved the manager, Rachael, who found us an amazing babysitter ;) Kevin was kind and friendly with everyone. He took the time to get to know the guests. The reception attendants offered help of all sorts.

Dear ixcuina, Thanks for your detailed and thoughtful review/feedback. We are so glad you had a great time and were able to get some work done too. Our location is key and it definitely makes for a great time, especially avoiding traffic and parking. Breakfast is still a work in progress and we hope to have a set menu of items come next year in 2022! Glad you enjoyed your babysitter and Kevin is extremely personable. We will let the staff know they are doing a great job. Smiles do go a long way. Come back and see us again. Truly, The General Manager Rachael Graber

This inn does a great job ensuring a safe stay. From touchless check in and check out to enforcing mask wearing and proper separation we felt very comfortable. There isn’t traditional room service during the pandemic but you can request whatever you might need from housekeeping. The room was a nice size, very clean and well appointed. The bathroom was large but really could use more shelf space. Complimentary breakfast featured cereals, baked goods, juices and coffee. Most everything was grab and go, pre packaged for safety. A really nice wrap around porch where you can eat breakfast or just lounge and enjoy the scenery added to the pleasant experience at this inn. We will definitely return!

We were at the Colonial Inn from September 5th to September 9th and had some great weather except for the first day that was rainy. This didn’t stop us from having a great experience at the Colonial. The welcome from Rachel and Ashley was warm and friendly. They gave us all the information with respect to our room as well as with all the amenities that we have access to, such as the heated pool and spa. Every afternoon, there are fresh, chocolate chip cookies wrapped in bundles of two, that we can enjoy with a good coffee or tea in the very spacious “living area” where there are various, very comfortable sitting spaces.
Breakfast : You can have breakfast in different areas; along the long porch on the side of the building, on the back porch facing the pool or on streetside where there are teak tables set up.
Room: we were on the third floor in a very spacious room with a king bed and a sitting area as well. The first thing we noticed as we entered the room was the fresh scent that was a nice touch. The mini fridge is large enough to store some drinks and some food. The washroom had a large walk-in shower and was of adequate size. Plenty of good quality towels and quite frankly, very white!
The only downside was that, even though this inn was completely renovated in 2013, there can be some issue with noise, depending on who your neighbours are. It is important to be respectful of others and be careful with corridor conversations that last forever because they can be disturbing. Otherwise, no issues for us, we slept very well.
Location: very well located near the center of Ogunquit and a short walk to Perkin’s Cove, as well as being a short walk to Ogunquit Beach and the Marginal Way.
A special thank you to the rest of the staff; Hakim, Phillip, Charlene and especially Joe, who works hard every morning to prepare a very copious breakfast that is, by the way, included in the stay. All the staff is always ready to help with any questions and we noticed that many of the guests were repeaters. This is usually a good indication of quality and well-being.

My partner and I had such a nice time on our short trip. The staff was super friendly and the rooms were very clean. Fresh towels were delivered each day and a light continental breakfast was available every morning (bagels, muffins, fruit and coffee). The view of the beach from our room was gorgeous and so nice to wake up to each morning. Thanks Colonial Inn team! We can’t wait to come back.

I'm going to start by saying that no one made me or paid me to write this review so if it seems it's too good to be true...well it's not. THIS PLACE IS ASTOUNDING! Beautiful lobby when you first walk in. Finely decorated with a gorgeous black piano and a place to play chest. There's an open wine bar from 4 to 8 (don't quote me on the times though). The staff are so friendly and accommodating. We met Taylor, Ginny, and Philip. Taylor gave us a map for around town and everything was in walking distance which was perfect. She gave us detail descriptions on each direction including some amazing shops and restaurants. Ginny assured us there was coffee in the lobby 24/7 which made me extremely happy! Phillip was very generous when we ordered pizza for delivery to the front desk. He tipped the delivery driver for is and I insisted Philip that I pay him back. Unfortunately our pizza was cold but the restaurant I assume was very busy so Philip offered to warm it in their oven for us which was extremely kind. We could've just microwaved it seeing as how we had one in our room. Very thoughtful. Taylor told us around noon everyday they made chocolate chip cookies. The smell of freshly baked cookies wafted into the lobby and guess what? They taste just as good as they smell. It was hard to eat more than one! Our room was located in the Eastern part of the lot. It had a lovely balcony and the pool was just a couple steps away. Our beds were made up nicely with a beautiful towel arrangement with rose petals. On the dresser was complimentary perseco and a bag of our favorite chocolates. The room came with a mini fridge, a tv, and a microwave. We loved the square sink in the bathroom too! The bedding was all white which is rare to find in a hotel. White bedding means you can tell whether or not they have been clean. Some hotels skip out on this for easier cleaning duties but not at the Colonial Inn! Everything was immaculate! My cousin and I traveled here to make up for me missing her bachelorette party due to work. It was definitely the right choice. I'll definitely be coming back!

This hotel was just OK. We were on the ground floor and the king room was very spacious and nicely decorated, but it was so hot. It was 78 degrees at night with no way of changing the setting.
Breakfast was in what’s seemed like a storage room, with store-bought bagels, yogurt, cereal, pieces of fruit and very overdone boiled eggs. Tables were set on the driveway to eat.
The pool was way smaller than it appeared on the website and we did not see a Fire pit. The “bar” was a window where they apparently sold some bottles of beer or glasses of wine, but the window was not open at any time while we were there.
The building itself had a lot of character and potential but it just is not there yet.

What I liked: Good location with a 5-minute walk to the Marginal Way and center of town, quiet room (since we didn't face the road or the pool), lot of space including a kitchen area (we picked a larger room), lots of windows let us get a lot of fresh sea air in the room, nice porch to relax and watch people walk by, good value.

What I disliked: Although hotel policy is supposedly that masks are required in indoor common areas, employees at the reception desk often weren't wearing masks - so of course not all guests did either. Room was a bit dated and the bathroom was a little worn & tired looking. When we checked in, no one told us anything except where the room was - nothing about how breakfast worked or the WiFi password or that there were fresh cookies in the reception area. Looked like it might have been possible to buy a bottle of wine at the hotel instead of walking into the town center, but no one told us about that either. Air conditioner was extremely noisy.

What you might not like: No sea views (we knew that going in), and no shortcut to the Marginal way through the property.

Bottom line: Giving this 4 stars instead of 3 because most of the important things were good and my partner liked it more than I did, but I consider it more like 3.5.

Dear oceandreams08, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We are in a great spot, central to downtown Ogunquit, Perkins Cove, The Marginal Way and the Beach, guests love that they can walk to all of these locations and leave their car in a safe space. As of current, masks are recommended in the state of Maine and not required. We encourage all staff and guests to wear them, though many guests choose to go without. The Colonial Inn sits on shore road and we are not located on the beach. We only have a handful of rooms that have these views and they are in the Main Inn on the 3rd and 4th floors. The Marginal way is only a tenth of a mile away from us, a quick hop, skip, and a jump away. We will remind our staff of the importance of telling guests about the amenities our hotel has to offer. We hop you come back and see us again. Truly, The Colonial Management

We spent 5 days at the Colonial and we are satisfied with this beautiful discovery located close to everything (beach, restaurants, shops, etc.) especially since we booked at the last minute. The included lunch was a pleasant surprise (much more choice than we would have thought with bowls of fresh fruit and tasty whole grain bagels). He never misses anything, the gentleman who takes care of the restocking does his job well. The rooms are nice and clean, however, having had 2 different ones, I suggest those that have a view of the sea. The swimming pool would benefit from being cleaned more often, the sand at the bottom gave us a bad impression.
