The Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort boasts a prime location cherished by many guests for its accessibility to the beach and local attractions, as well as scenic views. However, some travelers have expressed concerns over the small and outdated rooms, which can be noisy and suffer from maintenance issues. While the resort's vibrant atmosphere and diverse amenities, including several pools and dining options, are generally appreciated, guests have called out areas for improvement such as towel service and room features. Opinions on service and cleanliness are mixed, with commendations for the staff's friendliness overshadowed by reports of slow service and cleanliness lapses. Additionally, the resort's value has been questioned, with some guests feeling that the prices do not match the offered experience.

We stayed here for 5 nights. The location is excellent, right in the middle of all the hustle bustle. Lots of dining choices.
Hotel is divided into 2 residential areas though with a road between the two. Family rooms are in the satellite location across the road so you dont have access to the beach without crossing the road. Wasn't a huge deal but it was a bit of a surprise for us because kids couldn't just take off on their own and we can see from the room.
Buffet was pretty good, very crowded due to peak season.
Housekeeping service was a bit slow for anh requests because of how busy it was and how big the property is.
Our unit was nestled in a secluded yet accessible area, so it was perfect. If you are looking to have a slightly upscale experience, this is a good choice of hotel.

We found the property to be very scenic and clean. You arrive to an open air lobby which opens onto the beach. Check in was a little hectic and it was unclear how our luggage was getting up to our room, but it all worked out. We stayed in the rooms across the street from the main lobby. We were on the second floor (I didn't see an elevator if that is an issue for you). Your key card unlocks the gate and your room door. Our room was clean and quiet. The rooms have a balcony with a view of the pool. Very close to shops, restaurants, and there is even a grocery store nearby. You walk through the lobby directly onto a beautiful beach. The umbrellas on the beach outside the exit are rentals and all the chairs inside the wall on the grass are for use by any of the paying guests at the hotel.

We are currently booked for 6 nights, but it is worth it for us to bail after only 2 nights without a refund. Let me start with the good: great location in Tamarindo on the beach. Beautiful beach, nice surf but a bit rocky, sunbathing areas between hotel proper and beach are amazing, with a stone wall separating the beach goers from the hotel guests. The lobby and dining areas are open air, marble-floored and very impressive. The bar is open air under a palapa roof with ceiling fans keeping it comfortable.
The BAD: Beds are horribly hard and pillows are large, round foam blocks. The room is tiny and the bathroom is single occupancy only with the shower being a quarter-round glass enclosure in the corner. Good luck picking up your shampoo bottle off the floor if you’re more than 5’10”. No hot water in the shower or the sink. Just lukewarm after running it for 5 minutes. You might bring earplugs because the bathroom fan sounds like a jet engine spooling up from only 5 feet away. At night you can hear the thumping of the 70s disco music from the bar vibrating through the walls. Fortunately, it is not all disco. At 6 a.m. you will wake up to elevator jazz streaming in from the bar restaurant. Unless you smoke keep the door to your room closed at all times. It seems no one here got the word that smoking is bad for you. If you are a girl and by yourself do not walk on the beach at night - it is not safe. The local addicts hang out on the stone wall between the beach and the hotel, and on the street corners adjacent to the hotel. They offer coke, crack, meth and acid. Need I say more?

I booked 8 nights at this hotel which, in my view, is in the best location for restaurants and beach in Tamarindo.
Got a garden room which is the other side of the road. they gave us discounts as their massive swimming pool was being worked on. Bit silly fixing a pool during Christmas and New year

The service at the hotel was very slow. bags to room took 2 hours

Bar service were friendly and helpful but everything takes too long. Trying to even get a menu for food let alone order it takes an age. the drinks take so long you often get your food first. the cocktails are not good. don't buy one.

They were set up very well for New Years Eve especially as all bars were shutting at 7pm. I feel they could have done a bit more to liven it up but at least we could get a drink til midnight.

My biggest issue was the 1st January. restaurants all shut at 7pm again and the hotel completely full. People queuing to try and get a meal after that. by 9pm I gave up.

I get that they were busy but why not put on a BBQ or buffet so that everyone could get fed quickly. They just kept their al a carte menu. If management put a bit more extra thought in they could make things easier for everyone.

They just acted a bit like a 3 star hotel

Check in/reception: usually only one person at the desk, so almost always a wait to talk to someone. Were polite and friendly.

Main lobby: quite nice

Restaurants: food was good, service was slow but friendly. Expect to pay a lot for what you get.

Pools: pools in the beach side were small but a nice temperature. Pool on the other side was large and also a good temp. Honestly, they were all sort of gross. I’m not sure any of the skimmers work, so there is a ton of debris floating on top of the water. I don’t know that they ever get vacuumed, so there is also a lot of debris sunk at the bottom. The water is also murky, even first thing in the morning.

Rooms: we were in an ocean-view room. The view was quite beautiful. The room was so-so. It is a basic, standard hotel room you would find at any chain hotel. The beds are hard and not comfortable. The level of road noise was almost unbearable. Starting at about 6am, don’t expect to sleep any longer. The weirdest part is that many passing vehicles seem to go out of their way to make as much noise as possible - revving engine as loud as they can, motorcycles intentionally backfiring while passing, honking horns. I’m not sure if locals have a beef with the resort? The a/c works well and is quiet. There is also a ceiling fan, which is quiet. There is an in room mini fridge. The soap/shampoo provided is fine but basic as cheap as you can find stuff.

Beach: beautiful. Ocean gets quite rough for most of the day. Best to go early morning (after your 6am traffic wake up) or around sunset when it calms down.

Breakfast: free buffet breakfast. Had an ok variety of foods. None were particularly good.

Overall: it’s fine.
Would I stay again? Nope. Not worth the high price tag.

We just returned home from our stay at the Tamarindo Diria and are already planning a trip back! We stayed in a first floor Oceanfront room and loved the amazing views of the ocean from our room and patio. The grounds were beautiful, well maintained, and we even got a visit from a howler monkey! The central location of the hotel was perfect and we loved that everything was in walking distance, by beach or the street! They were running a special when we booked, so our stay included free nightly dinner in addition to the typical free breakfast. The food was absolutely delicious and the presention was beautiful. The staff at Tamarindo Diria made our trip! The bartender Charlie made our experience unforgettable. His dedication to his craft shows in the care he puts in every drink that he makes. Watching him make drinks was mesmerizing and a show in itself! He was not just a bartender, but also a travel guide that gave us recommendations on places to go in the area, taught us about Costa Rican culture, and gave us nightly Spanish lessons. Our trip wouldn't have been the same without Charlie! The servers were also so attentive and kind, especially Natalie, Daniel, and Francisco. We can't wait for our next visit and can't imagine staying anywhere else!

We stayed here over New Years. Diria is a beautiful hotel over looking the ocean. The bar and restaurant is right on the beach. The staff were very nice, friendly and lovely to deal with. They always answered my emails and were very polite. They work such long hours and yet there is a smile on their face when you ask them for something. Breakfast was always good. Lots of variety. We stayed in the ocean front rooms. The rooms didn't meet my expectations given the price they charge for them. They are quite small. The bathroom was small as well. Not much room to move around and I saw mold growing under the vanity. There is actually no hot water in the bathrooms. The water is luke warm. We complained but there was nothing done about it because that is what they set the temperature too. I think I expected the rooms to be a bit more luxurious and they weren't. Service at the Matapalo restaurant was quite slow and the food for lunch wasn't very exciting either. We had dinner at the El Pelicano which is owned by the Diria and it was wonderful. Seven of us had dinner and all our meals were great. The Nari Pizza was very good and the ice cream shop too. We tried to make a reservation at the Gallo Fino (Mexican) owned by the Diria but the waitress there wanted us to pay $20US to hold a reservation so we declined and went else where. They have a large tree with howler monkeys that live in it and it was pretty neat to see them everyday. Parking was right across the street and they have security guards on the street to control the traffic while you are crossing to use the facilities on the other side of the road which is part of the Diria too.
New Years Eve - its a huge buffet of different foods which were decorated and tasted good. The set up looked really nice. The DJ was really good but the Mariachi band had a lady singing and took up half the night with her loud piercing voice. It was a big huge affair and we would have preferred a more romantic evening. There line ups were way too long to get food.

This hotel is a proof that the service and policies can make or break a hotel! In this case worst hotel experience I have had all over the world. If you stay here expect to be treated like a prisoner! You get a bracelet when you check and everywhere you go there is security asking you to see the bracelet. We were followed into the gym, the toilets, the gates and asked to show our bracelets with suspicious looks!
The tip of the iceberg was when we came back to the room after a party with a friend who wanted to rest a little and were denied access to the room! They wouldn’t let us have a guest at our room to rest even when I offered to pay for any extra expenses! I was simply forced to get another room for a couple of hours and pay a ridiculous amount of money for a couple of hours. This has NEVER happened to me anywhere around the world from Europe to Africa. The reception (shown below) looks good but you can forget about everything else. The breakfast food was below average. Nothing worth waking up for. The rooms were old and not well taken care of. Not that it mattered that much to us as we were on a beach holiday but man oh man, get your staff trained on hospitality and how to treat paying customers!

554elik, Safety is of the utmost importance to us at Tamarindo Diria. We would like to remind our readers and guests that safety is our #1 priority. After you and your friends came back from your party, you tried to enter an unregistered person in your hotel room. It should be noted that this person was under the influence of drugs and acting suspicious. We will not apologize for ensuring the welfare and safety of the rest of our guests and their families. Kind regards.

We stayed at this hotel as couples. The grounds are beautiful and the location is what you pay for. Otherwise the quality, cleanness, noise level, and service is as good as a 3 star hotel max. The rooms we stayed (pool view) require renovation. The room fridge was empty. After midnight you couldn't find drinking water anywhere in the hotel. We were referred by concierge to purchase water at the local casino at a higher rate. Btw, the casino is owned by the hotel. So we felt we were being taken advantage of.
Be aware and I really mean be aware of the tour company situated in the lobby of the hotel. The customer service and management by Brian was a disaster. Unfortunately he only enjoyed referring to himself as the "boss" but did not know the basics of being one. Feel free to walk just few blocks out of the hotel and you can find the same tours at lower price and same level of service and insurance coverage. Also for taxi to the airport, just grab one from across the street at a competitive price. There are plenty.

Our tour operator (Anywhere) booked us at this hotel for 4 days. We booked last summer so would have expected a good room. Unfortunately we were placed on the non beach side with the door to our room facing the parking lot, garbage dump and clubs across the street. This was by far the noisiest room I’ve ever stayed in. The room was also tiny and the cleaning service didn’t even bother cleaning the used coffee cups. Those remained untouched throughout the stay. She also left 2 towels for 4 people. The cot, which I had to call 5 times for, was beyond uncomfortable and actually broke after 2 days. If you are planning on staying here, confirm your room location in advance and if you need a cot (rooms have 2 queens), reserve in advance because there apparently very few.

Finally, one would have expected more than 30 very uncomfortable plastic lounge chairs around a pool that could have easily accommodated hundreds.

There are no gluten free breads that I know of but there are plenty of other options like Gallo Pinto, the traditional rice & beans for breakfast or the Arroz con Pollo for lunch or dinner, one of our favorites. We are also gluten free and didn’t even notice. Costa Rican food typically doesn’t include too much gluten anyway.

Hello Stacey, and thank you for your question! Jardin del Eden is a calm and casual hotel, more focused on a relaxation experience than a fancy ambiance - in a beautiful and private setting. Tamarindo brings young crowds - yet our hotel separates itself from this environment - always looking for quietness and privacy. We hope you get to visit us soon.
