This hotel is so cute! Liberia is a quiet little area that's close to the coast and has activities like hiking and adventure parks close by as well. The hotel is well managed with a friendly staff that speaks Spanish and English. Our room was plenty big enough for 3 people with wifi, a TV, air conditioner, and a bathroom with a shower that had hot water! Overall it's a lovely place to stay if you're in the area. The breakfast was delicious too!

This hotel is run by locals & is more Costa Rican than the larger more expensive hotels. Much like a hostel, rooms have more than one bed, are basic but with air-conditioning and a good shower. Rooms are cleaned every day. We enjoyed the location, a bit outside the city centre (walkable), in a residential area close to restaurants.

The customer service at Hotel Javy was
exceptional. They were very sweet, thoughtful, and very helpful. There were several times where they really went above and beyond for our family. They were constantly checking in during breakfast to make sure we had enough food and drinks. When my kids didn’t want scrambled eggs and we asked if they had hard boiled they were quick to accommodate us even though hard boiled eggs weren’t on the menu. They also were very quick to assist when I couldn’t get the AC to work. They were so eager to make our stay enjoyable. Our experience was way better than expected due to the customer service we received. We felt very well cared for.

First the positive: the reception staff were excellent. Hotel Javy is in a Liberian neighborhood festooned with security barred businesses and homes. In addition most have barbed wire. Hotel Javy is surrounded by walls, barbed wire, and a gate. The property is showing its age. The beds were very uncomfortable and rock hard, and the pillows somehow seemed like half pillows. The towels were threadbare. Our showers were a tad over cold water. There was a phone mounted on the wall outside our room that rang often during the evening hours. The room is small; there were 2 desks but no hangers or dressers. We had booked two nights but canceled the second night. The WiFi didn't work for half of the time we were there. Breakfast was included and was typical Costa Rican fare. We only paid around $50/night...and got what we paid for.

Located in a not very nice and quite run down neighborhood about a half-hour walk from downtown, getting into the hotel and checking in was a bit of a chore. When we located and reached the sliding iron gate of the property there was no bell and we had to call the hotel number a few times for the lone staff lady on duty to open the gate from an inside control (every time you enter or exit the hotel you have to request for the gate to be opened). Checking in too took time because of language issues and the lone lady staff, who was very sweet and patient, had to call the owner more than once to confirm our reservation, type of rooms we had booked, room price, etc.

Otherwise, the rooms were clean, large, comfortable and well furnished, and the bathrooms were clean and basic with good hot water; and there was adequate parking inside the gate. Breakfast was yummy and filling.

Hotel Javy is a basic, family run hotel. It’s not fancy, but the beds and bathrooms were clean. There’s parking available with a security person available to
open and close the gate (and also checked us in since we arrived around 10:00 pm). We enjoyed the home cooked breakfast that was served to us the following morning. The staff were all kind and helpful and the security person gave us some good suggestions for where to go to eat when we arrived. Good location for our first night in Liberia!

We stayed in hotel Javy for one night, and we were very pleased with the stay. We were greeted by a place of delicious tropical fruits, and the staff carried our heavy suitcase upstairs. The room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding! The staff was very friendly and polite. We highly recommended it.

I am writing this review to update correct my earlier review of Hotel Javy on the booking.com review. We contacted this hotel on very short notice when taking a friend to a hospital. We checked in very late and did have a restful much need sleep. The hotel is very clean, secure and fair priced. We had an issue with a receipt and after posting my frustration on the first review I was immediately contacted by the owner who apologized sincerely and corrected the issue. I have tried to alter my review or update it in the booking.com app but it doesn’t allow us to do that. Please stay here, it is just what is needed.

I stated a night at this hotel and the service was awesome. It’s a quaint place with no frills, and it’s worth the price. The breakfast in the morning was beautiful, it was made fresh and it was accompanied with incredible coffee. I highly recommend.

First off the good part- a nice breakfast. The bad part: The bedroom was about the worst we have ever stayed in tiny, dank, handles coming off dressers. Double bed was against the wall, so could only use one side of bed. Room did not seem clean. No elevator for getting to second floor with suitcases. Bathroom very small. Asked for them to secure a ride from airport to hotel and this cost about twice as much as getting an uber. The area the hotel is in is poorly lit, so no walking around after dark . Really, do not consider

Thank you very much for your comments, we perfectly understand what you are telling us and we work every day to improve to provide all the people who choose us with a service every day, the building only has two floors and in fact it does not have an elevator, instead the design presents . two stairs, regarding cleaning we are sorry that you have had that perception, however the cleaning service has been one of our pillars and we do it daily. On the other hand, we serve as a liaison with the company that provides the transportation service. The taxis we recommend have everything up to date and with their respective policies and pay the taxes that the legislation requires. Uber, on the other hand, is currently a company. private that does not have this type of regulations so they can provide a cheaper service but choosing it is entirely at the discretion of the clients and finally we have invested in lighting our property, parks and common areas and currently there are two community security requests in the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity to delimb and install luminaires in public lighting. Without further ado, I would just like to apologize again for not having met your expectations and invite many more travelers to visit us this 2024.

Javier - do you have safes/lock boxes in your hotel rooms?
Answer from Jessica A
Dayton, Maryland29 contributions1 helpful vote
My kids room had a lock box, but I dont know if it worked. I thought the hotel was completely safe (it's gated and there are hotel staff or security on the property at night). Call the hotel during the day if you have questions and speak to Andres.

You can reach Javier (Javy) through his email on their website. TripAdvisor won't allow his direct contact info. In Liberia you are so close to the Hacienda Adventure center in Rincon De La Vieja. We did the full experience on our first day. Our favorite day in Costa Rica. We also love La Fortuna. There is so much to do in the area. Zip-lining, Hanging Bridges, Hiking, etc. Enjoy your trip. Costa Rica is full of adventure!
