A real gem of an island. The staff are wonderful and really make you feel like you are part of the family. Such a nice place to unwind and do as little or as much as you want. Kayaks and snorkel gear is available to use for free any time, the resort gives you a daily activity sheet if you want to participate (most are free but things such as village tours or trips to the mainland or scuba diving are an additional cost) the sea is as warm as bath water, the pool is very nice to chill by with a book.

The food is very nice and a staff member will come looking for you during the day with a menu for you to choose what you want for lunch and dinner (normally 2 or 3 choices per course). You can choose to opt for a set price per day for all of your meals but we just opted for a la carte as we didn't want breakfast and two 3 course meals every day.. I'd have had to work all of that off somehow! I loved how they announce meal times by drumming the 'dinner log'!

I can't recommend this island enough, its great value when compared to other resorts on the other side of Viti Levu and is fantastic if you have kids as you can let them roam free with no worries yet is quiet enough for couples (as we were) to enjoy a relaxing holiday without feeling like you're in the middle of 'kids club'.

As returnees we weren't sure if we could expect the magic of our previous Toberua experiences after the last two years of the pandemic. Toberua is still a place of relaxation that washes over you as soon as you step on the boat to transfer to the island. Once on the island, we were busy doing everything and nothing at the same time. The staff remain their best asset and there are many familiar faces and some new ones. The food experience is great - we took the meal plan, which again proved difficult to resist. New managers Wayne and Sabine are well engaged with the guests, checking in regularly to chat about your day. I was worried about the bats given previous reviews, but I could hardly say there were problematic. We were bothered by mozzies - nothing new to a Fijian resort, but our experiences of Toberua have all been mozzie free given the distance from the mainland. Be prepared with some repellant or buy some Pure Fiji lemongrass repellant from the shop. There are a few small changes to the Toberua experience. The daily snorkelling trip attracts a small charge and I don't remember the Toberua Serenaders singing at the lunch meal, which they did every day while we were there - it was lovely enjoying a meal by the beach enjoying traditional Fijian songs and many of our own requests. We joined in the daily activities like ladder golf, darts and pentaque with the staff on most days and had a barrel of laughs. We will definitely be back to our little island in the Pacific.

Bula LoveTravel816121, Thank you for your review and we are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay on Toberua Island Resort. We are glad that your visit was relaxing and that our staff was looking after you. During the wet season we do get a few mosquitos despite our best effort of fogging every week. This happens only a few months of the year as all other times we don't have many and the products we sell in the shop are not only effective but also have a lovely lemongrass smell. We look forward to having you back in the future to our island paradise and thanks again for your stay!

Loved everything about the island and our one week stay there - the setting, the happy greeting and farewell by managers and staff at the jetty, the incredible food, great cocktails by Zac and Sefo, all the staff who are so friendly, the comfortable Bures right on the water's edge, the snorkelling, treatments at the delightful small Spa, kayaking, being entertained at cocktail hour and mealtimes by talented staff doubling as musicians etc. Owners, and managers - Sabine & Wayne - have thought of everything to make one's stay memorable. They check in regularly with all guests to make sure everything is ok and they are happy.

We stayed at Toberua for 8 nights from late December with our two daughters (7&9). From the moment we arrived we seemed to breathe easier - it’s a tiny and intimate island, with large, beautiful Bures all directly overlooking the water.

We loved paddle boarding and kayaking around the island, and for an extra fee the diving, snorkelling and day trips were worth while.

The food and wonderful staff were highlights of our stay, Zac and the boys at the bar mixed great drinks with a smile and kind word and food at the restaurant was amazing.

When there were lots of kids staying, we loved how the kids dined together early then the parents could dine later (amongst sea breezes and wonderful live music) whilst the kids ran rampant collecting hermit crabs around the island. The hermit crab race was very memorable!

The only critique was that the bats were very noisy and disrupted sleep, I’d suggest that air plugs were available to buy at the office.

Thank you Tuberua for such a memorable experience!

Bula Anajon, Thank you for writing such a wonderful review of our little paradise! We are happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed your days on the island and that you had a memorable time here. Our staff are naturals with kids and they love to entertain them while you can relax our join into all the free activities we offer. Zac is fantastic in organising our popular crab race every Saturday and all proceeds are going towards the Toberua scholarship fund, currently sponsoring 16 students. We hope that one day you come and visit us again and enjoy our Fijian hospitality! Vinaka

Toberua may be only a short trip from the mainland but it can be a million miles away if you want it to be. It may only be a small island but it is comfortable, the bures are well appointed, private and it is especially restful going to sleep with the water lapping at the doorstep. The food is magnificent but what makes Toberua special are the staff who, like all Fijians are friendly and dedicated to make your stay comfortable in every respect. You can be as active as you want by snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, sailing or just resting and reading a book. This latest visit was our 7th to Toberua and every bit as memorable as the rest.

30 minutes boat ride away from the mainland this resort is located on tiny 5 acres island. Only a few ‘bure’ (thatched cottages) that are well appointed and airy are available. I think that the resort can’t accommodate more than 20-25 guests at a time so all is very personal and exclusive. Always a fresh breeze and excellent views from any location. Small beach sections only but good for swimming nevertheless. Friendly staff and excellent food. Highly recommended to just chill and relax for a few days. Excellent spa.

We had the most amazing week at Toberua Island Resort for our wedding with all our family & friends. We booked the whole island & the staff were wonderful in creating life long memories. This is an island paradise in Fiji, the accommodation is idyllic with every Bure having ocean views and traditional decor. It’s the perfect small & intimate resort where you can either relax all day in your hammock or do a range of water activities and tours. The meals were fresh & delicious with a great selection. However, it really was the Toberua staff that made the trip so memorable.

The trip was to celebrate as a family our 50th Wedding anniversary and the location, facility but most of all the extremely friendly family environment was Just perfect a 10/10. The staff could not do enough for you nothing was ever too much trouble. For the night of our 50th Anniversary dinner they pull out all the stops the table for nine persons was decorated with flowers and bunting and banner along with a 50 golden balloon. they even remembered one of our party had their birthday that day and also commentated that with a banner . Plus a just huge chocolate cake with candles and a sea food platter all for no extra charge or special arrangement on our part it was completely a most pleasant surprise to us all.

The island is just idealistic, the perfect small tropical island of only 5 acres I think with 15 Bures so it was very much a friendly family atmosphere not just from the staff but also the other guests 9 again I think max 35 people.

The kids had just a ball all playing together and making friends and spending so much time in the perfect size pool.

Christmas day was extra special as well with a visit from Santa Claus who must have made a special visit to the island shop because he gave my grandson a small ukulele that he was admiring on the shelf, Again all done without extra charge or input from us just perfect observation and attention to detail by the fabulous staff. Christmas dinner again was delicious as was all the food perfect 5 star quality.

One last thing to mention the live music every night except Sunday the harmonies and perfect range of songs and quality of singing from the musicians was again 1st rate.

The Island resort is some 50 years old so the buildings obviously reflect their age but the cleanliness and up keep was superb.

Just loved our time there as did all nine of the family!

Everything was co-ordinated perfectly from the pick-up from the airport via taxi and boat transfer and back again after our week here in paradise. Prompt and responsive communication via email before coming. Staff were very friendly and their service make you feel like FAMILY and know you by first name. A daily itinerary was provided in your room to help plan each day. Stunning views from our bure. We enjoyed picture-perfect sunsets every night with other guests whilst drinking cocktails and being serenaded by the staff band. Beautiful wildlife snorkeling and diving, and birdlife above water. Can't wait to come back next time!

We enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing stay. I noted on arrival how calm and serene the island was, and it really set the scene for our stay.
Food was excellent, and so was the service. Overall, both the set menu and the drinks were great value for money compared to the information we could find about other resorts.
We did the day trip to Picnic Island which was beautiful. There are just enough activities on island and off island if you so desire, but also a nice place to relax with a book.
I haven't been to many places where I would consider staying at the same resort again, but this one makes the list!

The Toberua management will arrange to collect you from the airport and take you to the landing station where a boat will be ready to take you to the island. You can then arrange for transfers back to explore Suva as and when you want. There will be a charge ... check with the hotel. We cannot rerecommend the island highly enough.

The return pricing as of May 2023 is FJ$235 for adults and FJ$55 for children (under 12) from Suva airport.

Bula, Toberua Island does not have an airstrip. You will need to catch a domestic flight from Nadi to Suva and then our transport provider can pick you up from the airport for a short 15mins drive to the landing. From there our speed boat will be waiting to take you in less than 30minutes to Toberua island. Please advise arrival times. Vinaka and we hope to welcoming you to our piece of paradise!

Hi Kajal, There are no land snakes on the island. The only sea snake around Toberua Island Resort is the white banded krait, which is very common in all Fijian waters. They come ashore to shelter from bad weather and to digest their food. They are generally docile and do not attack people. Any occasional sea snake seen on the island are removed by our staff. We hope that this helps!
