Tokatoka Resort seems to split opinions when it comes to value — some guests find it reasonably priced, while others question the value received. The atmosphere generally pleases visitors, especially the tranquil pool area, though the darker decor receives mixed reviews. Room comfort varies with guests appreciating the spaciousness but noting they could benefit from a refresh and better lighting. The service at Tokatoka Resort frequently earns praise for its welcoming staff, despite occasional lapses. Amenities are seen as satisfactory, with its prime location being a highlight, but some travelers suggest a need for modernization.

We were stranded for three days in Fiji during Cyclone Sarai at The Tokatoka Resort. We arrived after our flight was cancelled but before the storm hit. The Resort was filled with families with many children. The room was basic. No luggage stand. No night stand lights, just the overhead lights. The bed was a mattress and no box springs. The closet had two hangers. The bellman inventoried the room mentioning that the hotel charges for missing items. The room did have a refrigerator and a tea and coffee set, both would prove useful during the storm.

When the storm did hit, electricity and internet were on again off again. The storm knocked down some smaller trees and palm frawns were everywhere.

What was truly remarkable about the Tokatoka Resort are it’s people. They were consistently calm and reassuring and helpful to the guest. Several stayed at the Resort during the storm to make sure the guests were safe, well cared for, and fed. The managers organized them to remove items from the outdoors restaurant and back to minimize the chance of flying objects. Throughout the ordeal each staff member went out of their way to help the guests and to work as a team to prepare for and to recover from the storm. Vinaka!!!

Greetings from Fiji, Dear Dirk_and_Jess, Thank you for your feedback, you have provided us great insight into your experience of our room amenities and this has given me an opportunity to get back to the service line as we provide all stated except stand lights due to overhead lights. We do inventory upon guest check in as we were encountering missing or items been damaged upon guest check out. Due to enormous expense incurred in replacing and fixing these items we introduced the control measure of this arrival & departure checklist. We sincerely apologies for any inconvenience and looking forward to see you again with improved services. Island Regards

Tokatoka was a last minute booking due to pipe issues in our home. And I must say I was greeted by the General Manager Mudaliar who took my booking the night before and met me at Reception to check me in. How awesome is that! 10Mins later while having my breakfast and being genuinely greeted by an F&B Staff named Edward i was already feeling at ease. The Security cleaning the pool and dancing to Lady in Red was the Highlight and he was later joined by the General Manager again who helped clean the pool, Raked Leaves and was later fixing a Door but still managed to acknowledge my presence as a local and as a Valued Guest. Covid19 may have dampened some of the tourism Industries Lives. But not those at Tokatoka Resort. Thank you Mudaliar(GM) and Edward (f&b) for keeping to the Bula Standards. Bula LIVES IN TOKATOKA!!

This is a lovely hotel with beautiful staff. Most are helpful. They helped take our bags to the room, however we had to take our own bags upon checkout. When I booked this hotel (our 2nd stay here) I requested the room I wanted and was told it was organised (by our agent). When we arrived we had a completely different room, and nothing like I was expecting. After I complained about it, the reception staff, and more importantly Santana, was wonderful and organised to move us straight away to the room we asked for, even though it turned out our agent lied to us and never communicated our request to Tokatoka.
The pool is nice with a waterside for the kiddies. It's located across the road from Nadi Airport so it's perfect if you have early or late flight as they have airport shuttle bus too.
The restaurant is probably the only downside to the hotel. Lighting is terrible so I needed a torch to see the menu. The buffet continental breakfast needs a total revamp with more than 1 variety of stale cereal.
Overall it's a nice hotel.

very friendly staff, resort was clean and tidy, rooms a good size, bathroom/shower was nice and spacious. Great pool and has a slide for the kids (or adult), pool also has good shade area for those who want to sit out of the sun, food at restaurant was fabulous, only gripe was no hand rail to place a face towel and there was a night light in the room i couldnt turn off so room wasnt pitch black. has a gym amd spa which was great. large grass area at back of resort with views of the mountains for kids to kick a ball around (bring your own ball).Has laundry. curtesy bus to and from airport. local IGA is 30 mins walk along footpath on hwy or cheap taxi ride (resort had a shop but was closed down due to covid, i suspect one will open back up again). as this resort is large it doesnt seem busy or over crowded. Overall a great place to stop on the way to an island.

So this was my first trip to Fiji and didn’t know what to expect. Tokatoka is a decent resort but it’s not THAT type of resort you’re probably looking for. More like a transit hub resort as its close to the airport. The room was just decent but nothing too flashy, they’re old and run down. The staff was nice, room cleaning everyday, the food was ok, the main winner for me was the pool which my son enjoyed the most. If you want to have that Fijian island vibe resort holiday, pay a little extra and stay at one of the resorts on Denarau island, which is only about a 15 minute drive from the airport-all the entertainment and action you’ll get in Nadi is there. Lucky for us we hired a car so going there back and forth everyday was easy from our resort, tokatoka location isn’t near anything touristy and you’d have to drive out a fair bit for any activities. I’d definitely stay again if I needed a transit resort as I think it’s the best out of all the resorts that are not in Denarau island but in Nadi as a whole

We only stayed for 3 nights on our way back to Australia from USA. Our description to the travel agent who booked was budget family with a great pool and this is exactly what we got.
The staff very very friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was good, keeping in mind this was a budget hotel. The free breakfast was the best that we had had in "breakfast included" hotels on our holiday.
Our bed was comfortable, our room was a long distance from the pool and lobby which made it very quiet apart from other traveller who were getting up for early flights.
Overall, in my opinion the hotel was great value for money, especially if you are planing day trips.
Whilst writing this review, I am reading other reviews which were not as happy with their accomodation as we were. In my opinion, these reviews were harsh considering it is a budget hotel, if you want more luxury you need to spend more money. The internet wasn't great, I don't think that this was the hotels fault, I purchased a data sim card and this wasn't much better, I would say that Fiji's internet isn't as good as what travellers are use to at home.
My experience with the hotel maintenance was great, my son wanted to replace some batteries in a toy and they provided a screw driver and handy man within a few minutes. This task obviously is a lot more simple than room repairs, but remember things on a tropical island may take a little longer.

Where do I begin! Staff were not very friendly. Room was quite dirty (fridge had never been cleaned!) fan was extremely loud & remote for air con unit didn’t work therefore couldn’t turn it down - had to manually turn off at wall) room is extremely dark & terrible lighting. Water pressure in bathroom is so slow. restaurant service was terrible took over 1.5hrs to get our dinner (we had young kids who were very tired 8pm at night and still not fed) ended up leaving and they delivered the food to our room half an hour after leaving it arrived & pizza tasted terrible!

Overall very nice experience. Stayed there 4 days as we got stranded by volcanic eruption in Tonga
The pool slide is THE hit for the kids who have done it thousands of time whilst we were trying to sort out plane issues
Family rooms are good
The big negative is the food. Quality is quite poor, from the breakfast to pastas, pizzas, salads...for European taste and standards poor. it is ok if you are just transiting but not if staying more than one day.
For the staff depends: the lady manager at reception is very good and helpful, the other ladies at reception, it feels like we are bothering them when asking a question and very slow. The handyman at reception is Super helpful and nice (he was the one finding car rental amongst other things for us and not the ladies at reception...). staff in the garden so nice and giving us fresh coconut when they were clearing the trees

We had pre-booked the room in advance, but were shown to a room which was adjacent to the road. It was dingy, dark and gloomy and the road noise, even at that time of day was excessive, so we knew that we wouldn’t sleep. The rooms do not have glass windows but screens and shutters so there’s nothing to filter at the noise, we asked if there was another room away from the road and we were told that the only room available was a family suite. We did have to pay extra which was okay but we felt that the amount paid not including any food was excessive at over AU$316. The new room 402 was large and spacious with a queen bed and two single beds however the decor is also very dark and gloomy and I have read other reviews of the same opinion and it is true. The rooms are in need of upgrading, the tap kept falling off the sink in the little kitchenette. The drawers in the kitchen are all empty it is just tea and coffee making facilities. The room was clean and the staff at the resort as one would expect in Fiji are very friendly and warm. The pool area is very nice and the gardens are very well maintained and very attractive to the eye. I had emailed well in advance of our visit regarding my gluten-free needs as I have coeliac disease I was told to see the chef on the night, and he was helpful. The choices I had were very limited, but they did accommodate my needs. I don’t feel that the price paid was value for money and on an earlier visit we had stayed at a different hotel near the airport and found that it was better value and a good experience.

There is tea and coffee in the room, but no bottled water. I’m thinking the hotel’s management needs to get priorities of amenities correct. Hotels should not offer coffee and tea if they require guests to order bottled water from room service to make it. If you want clean drinking water, $7 from room service.

The absence of a little amenity like a bottle of water makes this my first and last stay.

Also, the lighting outside is bad, very difficult to see room numbers at night.
