PADI and NAUI dive instruction. Between Scandi Divers Resort, and our sister resort, Campbell’s Beach Resort (only 50 meters away), we have a wide range of rooms and suites to choose from. A large percentage of our rooms are oceanfront, so you can make the most of the incredible ocean views from Big Lalaguna Beach. Located ten minute’s walk from the center of the bustling little town of Sabang, Big Lalaguna Beach affords our guests a peaceful and family friendly environment, whilst being close enough to Sabang that guests can easily go back and forth as they please. Hotel's Favourite
Scandi is fantastic. This resort is an incredible value for the area.

I don’t need to comment much on diving, as the reviews here and other sites like Scubaboard speak for themselves. The dive masters, dive shop staff and boat staff are patient and great. We booked a daylong trip to Verde island and were provided a freshly cooked lunch on a scenic shelter off the island beach. It was refreshing to see the crew hanging out and not counting down the seconds until they could pack us on the boat again. The people here genuinely seem to enjoy each other’s company. Scandi feels like a family.

One thing that surprised me was the quality of the food. Food wasn't the reason we came here - but it could have been. My wife and I agreed that we had some outstanding soups and other dishes there. There’s a lot of creativity on display. I’m not kidding about the soups; they tasted so real and pure. These were some of the best soups I've had in my life.

The setting is gorgeous, with a tropical paradise vibe (more below), and within a taxi ride or short walk to towns. If you have a traveling companion who does not dive, they’ll be Ok here.

A few more details if you want to read on:

GETTING THERE. The weak link in getting to Puerto Galera - not just Scandi - is a water taxi service called Hap & Go. Bear in mind folks, they serve all Puerto Galera, so this is not unique to Scandi, ok? Don’t hold them against an individual resort. Just read on and be ready.

Arrival: You can book a water taxi to the resort, and pay through the resort - but at the cement slab port at Batangas, someone with their face covered may demand a couple hundred pesos in an ‘admission fee. I had most of my money packed away, which was dumb of me. I asked our car driver, who fortunately was still there, to call the resort and find out if this charge was legit. It turns out the website of Hap & Go says you should pay a 50 peso port fee per person regardless of whatever fee you paid for transportation. So if I had known the name of the taxi company in advance and done the research, I should have expected a port charge. Scandi picked up on my consternation and covered the port fee.

The moral of this story is, always be ready in the Philippines to have your hands on money to pay the nice people when you need to. It’s not that much money for most travelers; I just want to alert you to have cash ready.

The ride is super fast, but super bumpy and damp. After the shakedown at the port, my wife and I were seated opposite each other to balance the boat. We couldn't whisper so we locked eyes and both wondered through looks if we had done the right thing here. Well, once we arrived, all was well. I don't want you to hold the whole thing against Scandi, just be prepared so you can be more ready to arrive and get into the tropical paradise mood. If Hap & Go had a Tripadvisor page, I'd be leaving a longer review than even this one :)

In terms of departure, I suggest you ask to leave about 30-60 minutes before Scandi suggests. Hap & Go arrived late. They stopped the trip along the way to add more gas to the tank. And your land driver will cope with the relentless congestion in, first, the maze that is Batangas and then, Manila - and of course have to stop to add gas at a station along the way, just like the arrivals driver. Give yourself a little more time and you’ll be ready tor the Manila Airport (which was remarkably well-organized and friendly, and we made boarding time with some minutes to spare).

THE LOCATION IS AMAZING: This actually brings up a point I didn’t get from Tripadvisor reviews until I actually saw this place. Location, location, location. I didn’t realize how great Scandi’s location is, vs. most of the other resorts in and around Sabang, the central city of Puerto Galera.

Scandi is one of a couple of resorts located in a beach area called Big La Laguna that is buffered by a foothill staircase, and a 20-minute walk from, the city of Sabang. Most other resorts, such as Atlantis, are located in Sabang. Go to Youtube, look up night scenes of Sabang, and you can decide if you want to stay there. The beach at Scandi is vastly cleaner and calmer, and the area is much quieter. For us, we liked that. If you’re a party animal, go you - you might come to a different conclusion. Or if you have a companion who wants to shop, shop, shop, it's worth looking at the city. They have a new boardwalk that's scenic. But if you’re there for a beach, Big La Laguna is a win.

SCANDI WILL PAMPER YOU. The final thing to know is that they really mean it about customer service. The staff was always ready to help.

The staff was incredibly patient with us as we re-learned diving after being rusty from the pandemic break. My wife brought boots that didn’t fit and were impossible to remove from her feet when wet - but the staff got them off and didn’t blink an eye at the task.

We came down with traveler’s diarrhea and my wife got the chills, and they took good care of us. There’s a petite but well-stocked store located literally behind the resort that has probiotics. They won't hustle you like a shop in Sabang. Back at the resort, when my wife had the chills, the server brought her both warm tea and warm water. Oh and she loved the massages that you can book through the resort.

(And don't you dare hold the illness against any particular resort, it's all part of traveling in this area. This wasn't our first rodeo)

I couldn't even begin to list all the thoughtful touches of this place.

To expand on what I said above: We did a day trip to Verde Island, and lunch was a cooked meal at a beach. With every other day trip I've done like this, the staff is counting the seconds until they can drop you into the water and head back. In our case, the staff was just hanging out with each other and people on the island, and we were on this other tropical paradise for 2 1/2 hours. It was amazing.

It's clear the resort staff view themselves as what a traveler might call a family. And it just makes Big La Laguna and Scandi much more cheerful and genuine than you might expect.

Scandi gives both deliberate and reflexive thought to taking care of you.

Bottom line: once you get to this resort, it’s pure tropical paradise. Enjoy.

Location:
Beautiful! Its in located in a pretty, peaceful bay. Surrounded by green Palmtrees and the water just in front of the resort. From the ferry in Puerto Galera its a 20 min drive. You can walk to Sabang in about 15 min, where you can find some shops and restaurants as well as a beachbar.

Accommodation:
Great! The AC is well working. The bed was comfortable and you wake up to the sound of crashing waves. The room was clean and the friendly housekeeping asked us every day if the room needs to be cleaned. And even some extras like tea, soap, coffee and water was included.

Restaurant:
Delicious! The menue has lots of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its always fresh cooked with lots of regional ingredients. Its also possible to change dishes if you have any special needs like vegetarian.

Stuff:
Awesome! The stuff made us feel like home. Everyone of them was always helpful, friendly and kind. They helped us with our luggage, they always made sure we had everything we needed and even remembered our names.

Diving:
Breathtaking! Because of different experiences in Asia we didnt expect to be surrounded by a qualified and experienced dive crew. Scandi divers surprised us positively and we always felt save and could enjoy every dive.
You will see lots of fishes, colourful corals and a few wrecks.

Highly recommended!

Wow, what an amazing stay we had at Scandi Divers! All staff members were absolutely amazing (shout out to Rey, Romel, Larry, Anie and GP!). From the moment we arrived we felt at home and part of their family.

Rey did a great job teaching us how to become a certified Open Water diver; he is very skilled and knowledgeable, and made us feel comfortable in the underwater world. The dive equipment was of good quality as well, which shows the professionalism of Scandi Divers as a dive resort.

The food was delicious and affordable, and there was a wide variety of dishes to choose from. The continental breakfast was quite simple though (just fruit and bread), so we always ordered something else next to it such as pancakes or French toast.

We stayed at a small beach cottage with a great view over Big La Laguna, which we really enjoyed looking at in between our dives.

And last but not least: the dive sites are amazing. There are lots of them in the area, and they are all truly stunning.

Thank you Scandi Divers, we had a blast!

From the moment you step off the speedboat onto the beautiful beach at Big La Laguna you are treated like part of the Scandi family. The staff from front of house to the dive team have only one aim, to give you as great a holiday as they can, nothing is too much trouble.

The food is absolutely amazing with 3 course lunches and dinners with great menu choices. The breakfasts are also fabulous, my choice most mornings was the “American” …bacon, sausage, fried eggs and amazing hash Browns…but there were also wonderful pancakes, continental and Philippino options as well as omelettes.

The bar is well stocked with beer wine and spirits and, as everywhere else at Scandi, the staff are incredible, they know when you need a refill but never seem to be watching you….a great skill !!

The rooms are all spotless and cleaned every day. There are a wide choice of rooms to suit any budget, but whatever you choose, you will not be disappointed. Gifts were left on our beds on a number of occasions and we also had some wonderful “Towel Sculptures” !!

The dive centre is right on the beach and you really won’t find an easier way of diving. All your kit is loaded onto the boat for you, all you need to do is find the energy to walk with your camera across the beach to the boat and take a seat.

Most of the dive sites are a short 2 or 3 minute boat ride with the furthest being about 12 mins. As you approach the site you are helped on with your kit and then you roll backwards into the incredible underwater world of the Philippines.

The marine life was quite simply stunning. The colours need to be seen to be believed and we saw more creatures for the first time than on any other dive trip we have done.

After the dive you are welcomed back onto the boat with hot towels, which are wonderful and then whisked back to Scandi where you just walk off the boat with your camera. All your gear is taken off the boat for you and then thoroughly rinsed ready for the next dive. All this whilst you are enjoying post dive cake !!

On our final night there was a local band at dinner followed by a breathtaking fireshow. After the show the band returned and we spent the evening singing and dancing with our fellow divers and a large proportion of the Scandi staff…they seem to enjoy it as much as we did and they are brilliant at making everyone feel involved but also hitting the right balance of not forcing anyone to do anything they don’t want to do.

We shall definitely be returning to this part of the world and when we doit will be to Scandi Divers and their little slice of heaven.

The staff at the resort are very professional, friendly and helpful. In our case, they helped us to prepare all necessary documentation allowing entry to the island (COVID-19 restrictions) and arranged transportation there and back at favorable rates. In all matters, we could count on their factual information, advice and support. Thank you Anie, Angel and Rex for looking after us.
Big La Laguna Beach, where Scandi Divers is located, is the best beach in the Sabang area. It is picturesque and unlike Sabang and Small La lagoon it is suitable for swimming.
The rooms are large and well equipped. The choice of accommodation options is vast, especially as Scandi Divers also owns Cambell's Resort, located next door.
They have great diving school. I watched in awe as Rex taught my son to dive. These were the first steps, and after 2 days he would go underwater as he would have been doing it for years. I can recommend such a teacher to anyone with a clear conscience. Thank you Rex!
IWe have really great time at Scandi Divers and I know we will be coming back to this place. We are already planning another visit :-)

I spent a week at Scandi Divers in early July and am already planning several trips back! It is a divers paradise - with reefs and wrecks and drifts and so many unique critters and amazing hard and soft corals! I am a dive pro and this is the best diving I've ever done.
Kris and Marianne were amazing hosts, and the entire resort staff, and particularly the dive staff, went above and beyond.
The dive boats were comfortable and uncrowded, the guides so knowledgeable at finding small critters, and they take amazing care of your gear daily, including rinsing, hanging and assembly/disassembly if you want! And let me tell you how nice a steaming hot facecloth is on the boat as soon as you get out of the water!! They also offer various classes so you can continue your diving education if you want while you're there.
The resort has a nice variety of room categories, all of which were clean, comfortable and well maintained. Some of the rooms could use a little updating, but they're working on this, and honestly, I don't go to a dive resort for a fancy room. All rooms have fridges and safes and AC, with daily housekeeping keeping them spotless. No issues with hot water or water pressure as some island resorts.
The food was beyond any expectation I had - every meal was better than the last, with plenty of options and large portions. Snacks were provided between dives as soon as you got off the boat too!
And don't miss their spa services - hands down the best massage I have ever had anywhere and super affordable. The entire resort is affordable, so don't miss this hidden gem!

I stayed at scandi divers for 8 years in a row before the pandemic. This was my first trip back since 2019. Most of the original staff is back. They are warm friendly and family like. This friendly atmosphere permeates the entire resort. Guest guests get to know each other. It's quite often to see shared tables up for my strangers getting to know one another and sharing stories. Diving instruction is first rate. The in-house chef creates expertly cooked meals. I also find the location on Big la Laguna ideal because The water is clear at the atmosphere is quiet.

We came as a group of four in November and we were truly pleased with our stay at Scandi!

Our experience started when we met Marianne at a dive expo from Singapore, who took care of every little details leading up to our trip.. all the way to the end!

We were greeted at the airport with a private car sending us to the port, while accommodating our hunger in between with a stop over for Jollibee.

Once we arrived at Scandi, we were warmly welcomed by the team, introduced to the staffs of the different departments and an orientation to the resort’s facilities.

We stayed in Suite A which comes with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a living area and a nice balcony with the view of the sea. Housekeeping greeted us with lovely room decorations and everything was super clean including the daily room servicing. There’s still a lot of extra precautions the resort take in regard to the Covid situation. Thank you Housekeeping for being the unsung heroes!

By the evening, most of the staffs already knew each of us by names, and that is truly impressive service! Everyone whom we interacted made a conscious effort to get to know us individually rather than as a “group of friends” and that is very much appreciated.

Needless to say, we dived everyday here and it was soooo amazing with Rex and Rey; they are truly the best dive masters and guide - very patient in coaching, passionate in their jobs. You are also going to be given a warm towel the moment you get up the boat from a dive, and it is such little details that made the whole experience extraordinary.

We spent most of our time eating in the resort as well, as the food is pretty decent — though we wished that there were more local options, as by day 3 we have already tried everything on the menu ;)

Overall it was a wonderful stay and we are looking forward to be back again! Thanks Scandi Divers!

Scandi Divers is where we experienced the best customer service ever. Me and my partner celebrated our Anniversary here and I can say that it was the best Anniv ever. They exceeded the service you nornally get from a 5 star hotel. Starting from the Tuktuk service when we arrived at Balatero Port. We were welcomed by Derek holding a placard with my name on it so it was easy to find our service. He also carried our luggages from the drop off to the resort. When we got there we were greeted with a warm welcome and a sincere smile from Ms. Mayie. She gave us cold calamansi juice as a welcome drink which was so refreshing. On top of that, we were also given cold hand towels to freshen up. After that we met with our Scuba Instructor Coach Rey, he gave us a short orientation and were asked to fill out our diving forms. Once done we were taken to our rooms. The view was stunning, it was an awesome anniversary indeed!
The food was great, we ate at Sky View (Scandi’s Resto with the view of the sea) from breakfast to dinner, they offer a wide variety of food. My personal faves are: Chicken Fritters, Mango Pancake, Crispy Pata, Fries, Sizzling Squid, Scandi Special Pizza, Longsilog and Cornsilog.
Scandi Divers is very flexible with bookings and accommodation, thanks to Ms. Anie. You’re a rockstar! I would also like to thank Ms. Marianne for being hospitable, she made us feel so welcome. Happy birthday in advance Ms. Marianne. Thank you Coach Rey for all the patience especially when I started to feel uneasy. My last attempt was awesome but my ear was killing me. I’m planning on getting a clearance from my ENT to help me ease my mind and to be on the safe side.
I would also like to commend these people for making our stay fun and stress free: Ms. Milka, Ms. Mavie and the rest of the F&B crew, Kuya Arman, I forgot to ask the name of our room attendant but I would like to commend her too and the rest of the staff. We will be back (hopefully on December) so I can continue with my course and get certified. I don’t know how else to thank you but know that you gave us the best vacation ever. See you guys soon! Will definitely recommend this dive shop to our family and friends. Keep rocking, Scandi Divers! More power to you guys!

According to the area, there are over 62 dive resorts in the Sabang area. Puerto Galera is known for the amazing diving spots and experiences. It definitely delivers. And Scandi Divers definitely deliver on the diving experience there! To the front desk, massage/spa rooms, oceanfront property with an actual beach, and restaurants, NONE of the other dive resorts can compare. Think about looking over the balcony, and your dive boat is waiting on the beach for you when you’re ready! That’s the key words, when you are ready. I loved the flexibility of when our dive master said we could choose to go dive. They were at my beck and call all day. Concierge diving at its best. I don’t wanna dive first thing in the morning, no problem. I want to take a nap in the afternoon and dive at 4 PM instead, no problem! Loved it.

The rooms differ as far as location, but the room we had was oceanfront, and had great air-conditioning and plenty of hot water. The bed was extremely comfortable, and housekeeping was so sweet and accommodating. The food was delicious and fresh, and they definitely cater to any taste specifics you may have. I love a good drink at the end of the night of the adult version, and the bar delivered for sure.

Boats waiting for you to go diving is amazing. Dive sites are 10 minutes away at most. Nitrox on sight and the dive shop takes care of everything. The guys were literally taking things out of my hands to go put on the boat for me. I think they would’ve carried me into the boat if I let them lol! So helpful, kind, and gracious.

In summary, with so many choices in that area for a dive resort, I have to say, Scandi and Divers really caters to the diver. I loved the flexibility of the schedule and being able to do any, and all dives I could have possibly wanted. Definitely don’t miss the day trip to Verde Island. it is amazing and it is now at the top of my list for my favorite dive ever. I would definitely recommend this dive shop, and I would also go back and stay there again, which is a big deal for me to say because usually I move onto the next amazing area. Thank you Scandi for a great week!

Hello Janice, Greetings from very sunny Puerto Galera! Thank you for the message and we are very sorry for the late response. You might already had your vacation here in PG. About your concern, yes, we do have wifi in the resort but it is not able to reach inside the room. It is only available in an open area like diveshop, restaurants, frontdesk and terrace. They can arrange a shuttle from your hotel in Manila, if that's where you're staying. I believe it took a couple hours to get to the coast and then you hop on a ferry. Takes you right to Scandi Divers. Pretty easy. On the return, the shuttle took us to the airport.
