School vacation is by default an opportunity for a staycation in our family, over the past five years.
With the summer sun at its savage hottest, we obviously wanted a location with lots of water to splash around in.
A couple of choices in the Kingdom of Bahrain but Sofitel was picked beacuse well the drive to it itself can be made into an adventure of sorts, including a take-out lunch, trip to shop for snacks, sunscreen, etc.
Fastforward to check-in to a spacious room, with massive balcony and a magnificent view of the beach and sunset.
The kids enjoyed the beach, building sandcastles, while we as adults ensured to hydrate ourslves at the LaPlage Bar.
Watchful lifeguards gave us a sense of security on our kids safety when they were in the cordoned of part of the sea.
Dinner including desserts was sumptious with quite generous portions. So was breakfast. One can choose to have meals served in disposable containers.
Bathroom amenities include shower gels and shampoos from Hermes, and well you want to make that bath last forever.
The hotel was kind to allow us to continue enjoying at the beach until late evening, even after we had checked out earlier in the day.
For a full day, including the room, beach, etc, the trip cost us just about BD150, for 2 adults+a teenager+a 8year-old.
That is way less than what we would spend for airfare for two persons to any of our neighbouring Gulf nations.
So go ahead take a Sofitel Staycation.

Have just had a lovely break at the Sofitel in Zallaq , Bahrain . My husband and I stayed in one of their luxury Opera Suites which includes its own large terrace and private pool with fabulous views of the sea, beach, hotel gardens and main pool .
All meals were served in our room , all staff in the hotel wear masks and as always the hotel is extremely clean and my husband and I felt perfectly safe .
If your tired of semi lockdown and would like a little beak without flying then I recommend the Sofitel .

On arrival our bags were disinfected and all staff were wearing masks. We arrived early so expected to wait for our room and had our beach bags ready.
The beach was lovely, with beach towels, plenty of sun loungers and the bar was open for drinks and food. Everyone was social distancing and masks had to be worn at the bar. We ordered some lunch which didn't take too long to arrive, was in sealed containers and tasted delicious!
Our room was ready before the stated 3pm. Lovely large suite, with a balcony, living area and a large dining table. The room was clean and luxurious, but maybe starting to look a bit dated now. The only negative I have with regards to the room was that there wasn't any adequate seating on the balcony, we had asked for something to be provided but it never showed up, this was disappointing. We had requested other items during our stay, all were provided quickly.
We had dinner delivered to our room, which was delicious and plenty for us. I would recommend having it delivered on plates as it is a lot nicer experience! We had breakfast delivered the next day but it was in plastic containers and it was not the same. I also would have liked more of a choice at breakfast as you only receive a set meal.
The only unfortunate thing that let our stay down were the other guests, we had to tell many to wear masks inside the hotel, even inside a lift with us and there was loud music playing from one of the rooms early hours of the morning!
Overall it was a pleasant getaway whilst trying to stay safe and I look forward to being able to return again some day when I can enjoy the gorgeous blue pool!

I stay in Bahrain and have always heard of this outstanding Hotel , Sofitel Grand Hotel, but never got a chance to visit it .
But luck favored me , and my husband surprised me on our first wedding anniversary, by flying from Dubai and checking us into Sofitel Hotel . As he works for Fairmont De Palm, he received an upgrade and our view was the best, as we could see the full sea. the amenities are varied that you can choose from.
we Celebrated our Anniversary dinner , At Rivvaj the Traditional Indian Cuisine
the decor was done tastefully. Our Server Mukesh , did a brilliant job to recommend good dishes. my Husband and I enjoyed our dinner, and decided to walk around the Hotel. it was so amazing to walk on the beach, and looking the hotel in its full grandeur. On friday , we attended brunch , supported by live entertainment , and surrounded by delicious food, chefs at their live stations, making us feel at ease with their happy smiling faces .
later we made reservations at Tapas for dinner suggested by one staff Shruti . we were in the mood for seafood and ordered from La Mer , above Tapas. we enjoyed the seafood dinner along with live entertainment.
Overall it was an awesome experience, and whenever we were out, our house keeping staff always made sure that our room was cleaned, and everything replaced. special thanks to Toha , for keeping our room clean, with fresh towels and other items of replacement.
Thank you Sofitel hotel for an amazing experience. Hoping to be back soon.

Very good place to relax and chill very quiet and peaceful. They are taking all the precautions of safety starting from the entrance ( all luggages are sanitized, The room also are sanitized after every check out and before check in, all the staffs are wearing gloves and mask, you can upload all the menu directly in your mobile no need to carry any menu...).
The beach is amazing and you can find everything you need there, The view of the sunset from the room is wonderful .

I’ve never been driven to write such a review but I’m making an exception here. This is my third stay at the hotel. The previous two stays have been fine. But this stay has been THE WORST experience I’ve had in a hotel. There was more water coming out of a leak in the hose than the shower head. We had to call several times till someone bothered to pick up the phone and they took anywhere from 30-60 mins for each request. The tissue box is all rusted. Of course there was no sanitizers in the room. They put in one bathrobe for a family of three and two bath towels. Of course we had to wait for ages till we could shower since the towels were not on hand. Once the plumber came in to fix the leak, over three visits, the place was horribly dirtied up. We called for someone to clean the area where he worked and of course after several calls, the cleaner simply removed the dirty towels. The cleaner literally came empty handed, asking me what needed to be cleaned. The hotel was probably overbooked to make up for lost COVID time, so the beach was swarming with people, social distancing be damned. And then the last straw, the pillows. I’ve never seen such oversized behemoths. We started calling since 10:00 pm to have them replaced with something normal. After several calls and an angry one to the manager, he said he would send someone with ‘two types’ of pillows for us to choose. 30 mins later, a guy shows up with one pillow. I asked him to bring in three more as we said on the phone but of course, he never showed up again. I took the pillows with me to the reception since no one picked up the phone. This was literally past midnight now and they call in the manager who simply said ‘we are totally booked so we have no more pillows’. He said he would ‘search the hotel’ for more pillows to replace the bouncing castles they stuck us with. After sometime, he shows up with five pillows that are literally NOT pillows but probably cushions from their sofas with a pillow case on them.
I don’t know what happened to Sofitel. I was a member for two years straight and had stayed twice before but never again. Would recommend you stay elsewhere as I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Honestly it was really Change with this situation, we booked a room and opera suites with great value, the hospitality and the staff were amazing specially Mr.Abbas and Mr. Ezat who helped us to arrange the room next to the suite since we were a family with a kids.
The breakfast was served in the room with full of the necessary precautions of COVID-19 and it was full of choices , it supposed to be for two but its actually for 4-5 persons.
My advice for who's looking for a change in these days and had a fair from COVID-19 , don’t hesitate to book in sofitel because its the right place that u feel home specially they had continuous sterilization for the hotel.

Once you reach the magnificent building and the moment when you get in touch with the staff at sofitel you feel relaxed and home.
I had the chance to spend my birthday as I’m always doing in each year in a different hotel and i can tell that this one was one of the best ever.

I wish i could remember names. From check-in experience, to housekeeping, through F&b team everyone were shining and going extra miles.
The beach is clean and relaxing, sun beds are sanitized. The room is very spacious and has a nice view. And the food is tasty.
Special thanks to Ms. Fadoua who is a huge value added to the hotel, always approaching us and making sure that every single thing is done perfectly. You just turned our stay into an unforgettable memories.

Always love the view from my room at the Sofitel Bahrain...this is the first time stopping here since COVID-19 hit the world hard!! Breakfast is being served in the room and this hotel as really put some thought into how to make the experience slick and efficient. Amar delivered my breakfast today and I was very impressed with the presentation of the breakfast packaging. Amar was very friendly and professional.

This is one of the best hotels I have visited in the region The level of hygiene and compliance to COVID precautions is impressive. The staff is very friendly and customer oriented, if you are lucky you will meet with Mr. Dharmandar and you will be delighted. I recommend this hotel for any type of visit.

January in Bahrain can get quite cold. It drops down to 9oC. It feels like a British Spring day and is a lovely time to enjoy Bahrain and the sights.
The sea is cooler but can be swam from shore.
Most pools at hotels are temperature controlled so they are warmed in winter and chilled in summer.
It really is a wonderful country in January and February
Instead of going full board, I recommend enjoying the different cuisines/restaurants in the hotel: Italian, Indian, Spanish, Japanese, Middle Eastern and International.
I have stayed there at least 40 times. You’ll enjoy the verity and hospitality.

No the beach is accessible to all residents free of charge. Beach towels are free, too.
