This place is just what you're looking for if you want to get away from it all. It is surrounded by the most beautiful four beaches with soft sand and crystal clear water. The grounds are kept clean and restaurants and bars too. The staff on reception are so kind and helpful and always happy to help, as are all the other staff. I was poorly upon arrival and was offered ice cream brought to my room for tea!
The beachfront bungalows were amazing, really big bathroom, bath and seperate shower, large comfortable bed with soft bedding, immaculately clean, air con, ceiling fan, safe, hairdryer, fridge and large wardrobe.
You cant help the ants, lizards, goats, resident cats and mongoose so if this upsets you, book to go somewhere else. I think it all adds character to the resort and is absolutely amazing being around it all. The food is good, you dont always get what you order (especially if you dont eat meat) but it's so laid back here, I didn't really care too much.
The little shop in the sugar mill is expensive but saves you from having to leave for souvenirs!
Ensure if you venture to St John's it's not at the times when the cruise ships dock, absolute mayhem (but still enjoyable).
Ask to have your room sprayed at the reception whilst you're at dinner, this will ensure the mosquitos dont eat you alive whilst you sleep and the smell goes before you get back.
We booked private transfers with BA and worth every penny although all taxi drivers here are so friendly and amazing.
We were aged 38 and 40 and were the youngest here, there's no entertainment but that didnt bother us at all, being in bed by 10pm was late enough and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. Met a few lovely people here, a few from up North and two hilarious guys, Jim and Bill from the US.
We will return, hopefully in the not too distant future.....

Needed a break from all of the Covid related stress. Antugua is on the Green list and i have visited often in previous years. Booked flight and accomidation through BA website. 5 nights at Hawksbill by Rex and two nights at friends. Accomodation needs to be on a government approved list, easily accessed via social media links. Had to take a Covid PCR test prior to flying, which i did at Heathrow T5 with Expess Test £59.
On arrival in Antigua, had to show proof of following:
Vaccination status, PCR test, completed Passenger locator form, booked accomodation.
Travel to hotel has to be via airport taxi services which i booked on Booking. Com
Hawksbill Hotel Five Islands is approx 20 mins drive from the airport. Its a great location, close enough to Town, St Johns which is worth a day visit to experience local culture etc. The hotel is a bit dated now and worth its 3 star rating. But its four private beaches are glorius! Stayed in Club Cottage on the beach 20 yards from the sea and 2 mins walk back to the reception area and restaurants. Any of the beach cottages are worthy and idillic. All inclusive option was adequate, good enough choices at breakfast, lunch and dinner, although there is only one main restaurant and one beach bar for lunch. Room was cleaned every day and fresh towels and bedding provided and air con in rooms was a welcome relief. Drinks included are locally sourced, but caribbean rums are well received.
Hotel entertainment was sparce and lacking. Ceiling fans are needed in restaurant and reception areas, which would help keep the mosquitos away.
Hiring a car from Buzz Cars at the hotel was very affordable and really good customer service from a delghtful family run business telephone: Charlene +1 (268) 772-2100. I went for a Jeep. Antigua island is easy to drive around in a day, well sign posted, English Harbour and Catherines Cafe is a must visit for me as is Coco beach Dickenson Bay near Sandals. Purchase your drinks in town at Kennedys or at Supermarkets fir vest value and souveniers in St Johns.

Arrange your return Covid test indepndantly i reccommend Dr John 75 US dollars, hotel were charging 150 US. and only an Antigen is required, Some people brought their own test kits with them from the UK. Word of advice, fill in the return oassenger locator form online before getting to the airport, you only get 15 mins free wifi at the airport and the process is agonising if left to last
Minute.

We stayed at Hawksbill in January 2020 so were there before the pandemic would have forced in new safety measures..

Hawksbill is great because:
it has 4 gorgeous bays and plenty of space to relax
the sunsets were magnificent
the furthest bay is nudist so that it great for those wanting to hang out!
the hotel has limited number of rooms which leads to there being a very friendly environment
the beaches have a gentle slope so you are safe to swim
the weather is gorgeous all year round
breakfast was served in the main block, lunch by the beach and dinner in the main block. The food was quite good bearing in mind that if you want cordon bleu cooking then you need to go to a premium hotel.
a whole room has been turned into a library so you never need be short of reading material.

Hawksbill is poor because:
there are a lot of steps and slopes so I would strongly discourage anyone with a physical disability from considering this hotel.
the swimming pool is minute and shallow. Don't think I ever saw anyone in it.
whilst the sea is safe to swim in there is a significant sand bar so getting out of the sea can be a challenge.
the room we had was dated and somewhat shabby
there are only two bars each by the restaurants
there was no organised form of entertainment
shortage of sun beds and the ones there are showing their age.
WiFi was very hit and miss but worked in the main block but not in our room.

We actually loved it and accepted the limitations. People we chatted to either loved it and came back year after year but others were less impressed and would never have considered returning.

Had a wonderful 10 days at this resort in feb 2022. We upgraded to palm beach bungalow and was not disappointed. It had everything we needed , the bathroom had a full bath and separate shower and his and hers sinks and all spotlessly clean
The bedroom had king size bed and was comfortable We never had any issues with loss of water or power throughout our entire stay. The position is fantastic and view is breath taking. The beaches are all beautiful and great for swimming.
The bars at the hotel serve good choice of spirits and mixers come in cans so never flat.
Husband said beer was good. Also good choice of cocktails. The restaurant was spacious and comfortable and food was of a good standard , we never struggled to find something to eat They have entertainment at least 4 nights a week and a bbq night once a week and it was fab to see people dancing and enjoying themselves.
The hotel is very relaxed and comprised of mainly couples. The assets of the hotel are the staff they are so warm and welcoming and everything is done with a smile.
The hotel was very busy whilst we were there and this contributed to a rush for for sun beds , of which there are not enough, this problem could easily be solved just supply some more !!!!!! Also down at palm beach we had 2 lovely sun beds but it was a trek to the bar during the day down to sea grapes to get drinks so puts additional strain on the number of sun beds. If they opened the main bar during the day as well as the beach bar this would have made us make use of our beach and sun beds much more, but only a suggestion. The only other criticism is the pool it is not very big we knew that before we went but it is not maintained and not chlorinated as far as I could tell. It’s a shame because as far as we were concerned no one ever used it which is a waste.
We did the wadadili cateraman trip which was fantastic and also went up to Shirley heights on the Sunday which were both brilliant excursions.
To sum up the holiday it is a 3 * resort of a very good standard and extremely good value for money We had the most relaxing time and would return Thanks Hawksbill👍🏾👍🏾

We stayed here for 2 weeks in August. On arrival the view from reception is simply stunning, the whole site is beautiful and the gardeners do a great job of cleaning up leaves etc daily so big shout out to them for keeping it stunning!

We had booked a garden bungalow, but we were offered an upgrade? to the sea view block rooms which we very quickly declined, not in our view an upgrade at all, it was an awful room, dirty, paint splattered everywhere, filthy windows couldn't see out of etc, basic shower etc etc so we went to the garden view room we booked which was adequate and clean however no air con and a very interesting shower and toilet set up (see photos) We stayed here for a couple of days then requested to upgrade and paid to move to honeymoon cove. This was amazing!! gorgeous view lovely big room and bathroom, double doors opening directly to ocean view, highly recommend these rooms, iron, ironing board, kettle, fridge air con etc.

Food was great for us, breakfast had everything you could want, egg station, bacon, sausage, hash browns, pancakes, oatmeal, fruit, yoghurt etc
Lunch again lots of options, grill with burgers, chicken, fish etc or choose from the menu (highly recommend the blackened fish wrap) yummy.
Dinner again enough for us, 2 or 3 meat options with veg, salad etc, desert bit sparce but always something and ice cream options. Afternoon tea is offered but again very sparce, sandwiches and cookies only. You really wont starve and its better than huge choices and wasted food.

Drinks were great, cocktails and beer in cans (most days), flies were a bit of an issue at lunch but think that was the time of year?

The staff make this hotel special, they were all great, special shout out to Errol, Marion, Kerry Ann, and Fenton (who's music on the beach was great and much appreciated) They work very hard, and are clearly short staffed and doing their best. Lots of people were complaining about really petty things, just go with an open mind, its a 3 star hotel, really great value for money, if you want 5 star, pay for 5 star!We would return to Hawksbill and we don't normally do the same hotel twice.

Also, there is a small gym which we did not know about, this has 2 running machines, two bikes and free weights, the hotel need to advertise this on their website, it is a plus point

Firstly i would like to thank Mario for moving us to a different room, we had no hot water, which they did try and fix, rain through the roof, not the hotels fault as we were in a tropical storm, somewhat wet n windy.
Kerry-Ann an absolute star, and the lovely Errol who always brought a smile to our faces.
This hotel is set on the most beautiful beach and clear warm sea. The grounds are well kept with an abundance of birds, Mongooses, and not to everyone's taste Goats, not the hotels but a neighbouring farms who kept making their way in.
This hotel is old style Caribbean which unfortunately cannot keep this hotel going on its own, a complete make over is urgently required. BE WARNED if you book a standard bungalow it is not a bungalow, its a 2 story block in disrepair more like (Tenko if old enough to remember), from no water, no light bulbs in some rooms, TV's not working or hairdryer. when reported reception staff blamed each other , when complaints were not addressed.
The pool is more like the size of a pond, thank goodness for the amazing beach.
I have read peoples reviews and while i never went hungry, describing the food as excellent i find somewhat strange, boney meat, same things daily, i never saw a mango or an avocado, which in the town were plentiful. One night three of us were served bones in gravy, and when i tried to point this out to the waiter plates were swiftly taken away before i could take a picture.
We were told by another paying guest 'you get what you pay for' yes for the Caribbean and compared to Europe it was a good price, but you expect running hot water and no bones for dinner.
Another thing if you want water to take to your room a bottle is $3.00, shocking for an all inclusive hotel.
Please be aware the Island is on curfew ( Covid), and staff are expected to be home by 11 so the bar was closing at 9.30.
Here we go FLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! never in all my years of travel have i seen so many flies, we never ate a single meal with being bombarded by them , Lunch by the beach was the worst, gulping down our food while shooing the away. They are everywhere! a woman was next to tears, she just couldn't stand it. while i have no answer to the problem, it is a huge problem.
Finally i want to say, price verses quality, and if you are happy to over look the above and enjoy the charm of this colonial hotel go for it. we recommend you take the boat trip around the Island, its a beautiful Island the the food on the boat was delicious. Sunshine and rum a great mix.

Old style resort on a wonderful beach, in fact 4 beaches! We paid extra for a beachfront bungalow which had air con, from some previous comments not all rooms in the standard rooms do. Both the air con and the 2 ceiling fans were wonderfully silent, so could leave on and sleep.
The location is stunning and perfect for a lazy, lounging holiday. No other restaurant, bars or shops in walking distance. Those wanting more action should look elsewhere. We hired a car and enjoyed exploring other places, but found it hard to find other resorts we would have preferred.
Yes it is a bit old fashioned, but it is a 3 star affordable resort, so it’s unfair to complain if you don’t have 5* facilities. Also factor in COVID restrictions and new staff. The evening meal was not exactly gourmet cuisine, but we enjoyed fresh fish on grill some nights, would have been nice to have more local dishes.
The location makes up for any of its failings.

This is the third time we have stayed at this resort, attracted by the stunning scenery. And during that time there have been some significant improvements, in particular WiFi in your room and the availability of free water sports. But what has really disappointed me during my current visit has been the poor quality of the food and more limited range of choice. This has been particularly evident in the a la carte evening dining, which has been introduced for 3 nights a week. But instead of being a treat this has been notable for the awful standard of food. Initially I put this down to an off day for the chef or misfortune on my part but I’ve come to the conclusion that they have attempted to compensate for the increased staffing costs involved in a la carte by reducing the standard of food. Big mistake!

My wife & I had a fabulous fabulous week here. The different ratings like all reviews reflect our individual expectations. We were clear from the outset as to what we wanted, what we did not want & what we were prepared to accept for the price we were willing to pay.
Hawksbill DOESN'T offer: posh & pristine accommodation / immaculate service / beautiful & gorgeous food / a perfectly clean & swim friendly pool / every-night entertainment / high rise buildings with mirrored lifts
Hawksbill DOES offer: a relaxed & spacious environment / a beautiful forest green back drop / 4 stunning beaches which are generally quiet / rooms & cottages (most) which sit just back from a beach / swim friendly beaches / basic water activities. In fact a place to unwind & relax in a resort where there are minimal distractions which are often offered up by the 'modern world'
You will have to accept a variation in service (very slow, slow, ok / distant, transactional, friendly / rather not help, happy to help). You will have to accept a variation in food quality & taste, in fact much of the dinners were quite bland. You will have to accept the BBQ lunches menu is the same every day. You may have to accept the room is not perfect (e.g sink plug missing, door sticking, lock awkward to open) You will have to accept the noise of the goats & sometimes a little of their mess.
But hey, if you are looking to unwind in the most beautiful of beautiful locations at an ok price there its much to love if one can let go of the niceties one often expects.

Beautiful beaches but beware of the jellyfish.

After reading the reviews we sent an email asking to upgrade to a beach club room, willing to pay but the reception staff did not acknowledge it. In fact the staff were extremely rude and very unhelpful.

TJ brought our cases to our room, he was helpful.

Our room required a lot of TLC, we had a TV, constant hot water, although the shower pressure was poor and decent air con. Clean and fresh towels were delivered each day. We did have problems with mosquitoes and it would help if the rooms were sprayed with a mosquito fogger.

Food was ok the first couple of days but we really struggled the remainder of the holiday. There are no fans at breakfast or dinner. We often had to queue for breakfast, this was not due to the number of guests, this was done to the staff ignoring us at the “Please Wait to be seated” sign.

We had no issues changing out beach towels.

Fenton was the most friendly member of staff and was one of three staff who made us feel welcome and not an inconvenience.

Atmosphere in the evenings is not great, music would help.

The service for food at the Seagrape Restaurant is truly appalling.

Wifi was non existent in our room.

Management did not inform us that the beaches or access to the sea was restricted from noon on Saturday and Sundays.

Do not ask reception to book you a COVID test, they charge 150 USD.

Take USDs with you as reception would not help change our East Caribbean dollars in to smaller denominations.

The hotel has so much potential but seriously needs upgraded, find staff with good customer service, put in a decent size swimming pool and improve the food.

Hi Having stayed there recently, I would advise you go for the AI rate. as you may end up paying more. Where the hotel is there are no nearby restaurants; The food there is good; if you are there for a week or less then just kick back and enjoy. As I said in my review the Showers are outside the room; quirky but totally secure. Ask for an upstairs room which usually has a glass door separating the shower area. This will protect you from Mosquitoes....Enjoy
