The location was great, the food was great and our room was nice. Every bartender we met during our stay was very nice and courteous. The only issues we had was that the young lady who checked us in was VERY rude and did not seem like she was in the mood to be there that day. The next morning when we stopped by the front desk to ask for extra water and towels, she told us to just call from our room. When we came back to tell her that our phone was not working, she seemed annoyed. She said she would send someone, but until we checked out no one ever came to fix our phone.

I visited Decameron Haiti the second week of January. I stayed 6 days. I really liked it. The place was clean. The staff was friendly. I enjoyed the beach but more importantly I enjoyed the pool, especially early morning when they played light relaxing music. Morning pool workout was a blast. There’s nothing negative to say about the place, except that they only had WIFI in the reception area. So that was annoying to have to carry my computer to the reception to handle work related stuff.
The kitchen staff was great. When Ketly and Stephanie realized I was visually impaired, they brought the food to my table. I really appreciated their kindness, along with others at the kitchen. Building 12 is right by the beach. One of the best place to be. I really enjoyed the stay. I could come back next year.

My wife and I had been to so many islands in the Caribbean vacationing and it was a refresher when she suggested that we go to Decameron Haiti (which is where I'm from) until we got to the hotel. I have to say Elizaire made the pick up from the airport easy for us. When it comes to the hotel and it staff, its a whole different scenario. Let's Start with the sign at the entrance of the hotel, the paint is all peel off and dirty. Staffs at the guest service didn't really care or didn't how to do their job to help the guest. The first room that they gave us was so filthy, it was in and out we had to change room. During our stay , it was annoying that we can't relax peacefully at the beach, because merchants keep offering nonstop if we wanna buy something. The food at buffet was okay, if you wanna eat some delicious food, you have to make reservation in one of the two restaurants north and south. Again Elizaire was the only go to person to help and its embarrassing, because he only works in excursions.......Overall it's embarrassing after traveling to the only all inclusive resort in the country, I can't come back to the US and vouch for this resort. Shame shame shame, that resort needs to shut down and renovate from head to toes and any traveler that's happy with this resort needs to travel more in other places.

I was there 5 months ago, and returned again last month, against my better judgement, they still have no hot water in the rooms. Considering the current lack of security, it is absurd to expect travelers who are still willing to come to Haiti to deal with this nonsense, i asked to speak to the manager, I got the runaround by the ladies at the reception desk all day. Nothing but excuses all day long. Stay away if they cannot confirm that they have fixed this hot water issue. For the prices that you are paying per night and for the shuttle, I would advise that you call and confirm ahead of time whether they have fixed this issue. Completely unacceptable.

I did not expect going go a resort in my country encountering rude staff members especially for bartender lady. I asked her for a drink and she took it upon herself to school me when it comes to rum punch. I just wanted my drink not an attitude. I'm debating if I should go back. Other than the staff member lady at the bar, the stay was alright.

My partner and I stayed two nights for his birthday and found the facilities, pool and beach all beautiful. We would love for that to be enough to come back again for romantic weekends and with friends too but unfortunately we had a few major issues that really negatively impacted our stay. I've waited this long to do my review as I lodged a complaint with them and wanted to give them the opportunity but after two months they have still not responded.

The room:

We booked online and after checking in found out that our room was two single beds. We went and spoke to reception and they said that its not possible through the website to specify your room type and can only be done over the phone (none of this was outlined in the booking process). We were told to push the beds together to improve our experience and of course that was not comfortable at all! They told us to come back the next day at 12 to swap rooms after people had checked out.

Throughout that first day we saw lots of King rooms being cleaned, some as late as 5pm, but reception insisted they were all booked. The next day we went to reception at 12 and were asked to return at 1. We returned at 1 and were told to come back again at 3. At 3 the staff member responsible for room changes (we don't understand why any reception staff can't do this?) wasn't able to be found. My partner found a king room next to us that was being cleaned at this time and spoke to the cleaners to check it was vacant. He went and asked at reception if we could have it and was told it was booked - more details on this below under 'The staff'. Despite this he kept waiting for the male staff member and finally at approximately 5pm we were able to secure the room and had wasted half of our afternoon in the process.

The restaurants:

When we booked this holiday we specifically selected it because it offered a la carte restaurants. As I was planning this for my partners birthday I wanted to make sure we had a quality experience with the food. After booking online I emailed with questions and called the Decameron call centre specifically about the restaurants. I asked if we could book in advance and was reassured that there was no need to do this and we could simply select our restaurant of choice when we checked in.

After we arrived and checked in
they told us the fish restaurant was totally booked both that night and the following night. They said there was one table available only one night at the Creole restaurant and after going there for the between meals snack bar where the food was horrible we didn't want to risk it. We explained we had tried to book the restaurants weeks ago on the phone and the staff responded that it is a Decameron policy to only allow bookings at reception.

We were told we were on a waiting list and they'd call us if a table became available. We had dinner that night at the buffet and honestly couldn't eat a thing. The seafood was not fresh at all, the cooked dishes had no taste or horribly bitter/soapy tastes. We are not picky people and honestly had to spit food out in to our napkins. We had a dinner of just bread and cheese in the end and went to bed hungry.

The next day we went to reception after breakfast to follow up on the restaurants. A lovely staff member had gone to the fish restaurant directly for us since we checked in and asked if they'd accept two extra customers which we were really appreciative of.

We had dinner there that night and were so relieved to have a lovely meal. We ate at 7pm when the restaurant opened and were still enjoying drinks at the bar at 9pm. In that two hour period the restaurant seated no more than approx 20 people, much less than the already small number of 38 people that reception had advised was the capacity. At no time was the restaurant more than 50% full in terms of seating capacity. We couldn't help but wonder if they're encouraged not to have many bookings due to cost.

Whatever the policy may be it has to be made clear to customers before booking that there are limited spots available per restaurant and all customers should have equal opportunity to make these bookings during their stay.

The staff:

We had two good staff experiences being the guy who eventually gave us the room and the second guy who organised the restaurant dinner and we were very lucky to find these two employees during our stay!

We found the rest of the reception staff completely unhelpful and unconcerned with whether we enjoyed our stay. It was very upsetting to have no answers or vague answers to all of our issues and have the staff simply smile and say they would look in to things. Our phone numbers were taken and we were told things would be looked in to but we had no phone calls or messages to the room and had to do all of the follow up ourselves which really detracted from us relaxing and enjoying our time.

Our enquiries for the restaurant and room were redirected to one particular lady Elsie so we assume she's a senior staff member. While she fits the description above of being completely unhelpful and insincere, we mention her specifically because it got to the point where she outright lied to us. When my partner found the empty room next to us on the second afternoon he went and asked with the specific room number. She opened her computer system and told him it was already occupied. My partner said that's not possible as he'd walked straight from there to reception and it was still being cleaned. She then said the keys had already been given to another customer. This was the same room that my partner was able to secure for us an hour later when he had the chance to talk to the male staff member apparently solely responsible for room changes.

We approached her the next morning about it and told her we were now staying in the room which she had told us was taken. She smiled and laughed and tried to make some excuse along the lines of she thought it was taken and my partner reiterated she had said explicitly that the keys had already been given out for that room and there was no way she hadn't lied to us about it. She smiled and said nothing to apologise or explain herself.

It is simply unacceptable to have staff lying to customers and even worse having no one on site to take any accountability. The fact that the company has also done nothing to take accountability through the complaints process makes it hard for us to want to risk booking again.

All-inclusive resort
45 mins north from the Port au Prince international airport
10$ U.S P-A-P airport fee per person
Perfect place for a family vacation or reunion, business trip, wedding or couple time. We saw a weeding during our stay.
Stayed Wednesday until Sunday
Tip in U.S dollars
The view of this resort is outstanding one side is the mountain and the other side is the sea.
Armed and tight security on site (super safe with no soliciting)

Food:
Bar: with the right bartender you will get the best drink one of my favorite was the Love drink. (Bring your own cup and they will fill it up- try all the drinks)

Snack bar: is in the creole restaurant on the south side behind the pool (beautiful views and great snack option such as pizza, chicken wings, fried plantains ect..)

Buffet restaurant: is open for breakfast 8 am, lunch at noon and dinner start at 7pm perfect for picky eaters. There’s an attendant at the entrance giving out hand sanitizer before entering the dining room (great hygiene initiative). The food was great! They serves a different types of food every night but also includes Haitian traditional dish each day. Multiple station to choose from such as salad bar, bread station, dessert & beverages station and they also have specialized custom made station where the chef prepare food individually. FYI the Gelato and ice cream was homemade and delicious. Make sure to ask for a glass of wine once seated at your table. (We tip depending on the service max 5$ U.S for two people)

Seafood a la cate restaurant (free): reserve early morning or when you arrive. This restaurant is perfect for couple. They also have musician (saxophone and guitar player) serenating during dinner.

Creole a la carte restaurant (free): reserve early morning or when you arrive. Traditional Haitian food with a beautiful presentation (delicious)

** If you want a dinner on the beach during sun set with private service, guess service will make it happen**

Service:
Don’t waste your time trying to contact the resort directly in Haiti because they don’t answer. Call the call center and they will relay the message.
Most of the staff speaks French and some speaks English. So get your Creole & French book out!
The bellman helping us with the luggage only carried 2 pieces of luggage’s we carried the other ones (5$ was enough)
The front desk has an exchange service but not always available bring small U.S bills such as 1$& 5$ for tipping (U.S dollars is highly used in Haiti)
Free internet in the lobby

Facility:
Massage service was awesome and worth the money.
Gym facility with a TV and looking at the scenery.
We were impress with the maintenance, landscape of the ground/ outside area of the resort
The art and craft decoration in the resort was beautiful

Rooms:
The room was on the top floor (best choice for tranquility and views)
Magnificent views one side was the beach and the other side was the mountains
Balcony and seating area (viewing the beach)
The rooms and bathroom where very clean and service daily (4 star)
Room with two beds (one fits 3 people the other 1 person)
Air conditioner/ cable TV in the room
Tip: daily depending on the service

Entertainment:

Day entertainment:
Kid’s day care facility: Nice and spacious located on the south side of the resort
Fun Activities in the south pool area on a daily basis (aqua Zumba, yoga, and dance)
Basketball court, Tennis court, Volley ball area

Night entertainment:
Fantastic night entertainment show during the weekend (great entertainment for everyone)
Late night club/ Disco in the south area near the Creole a la carte restaurant
(The DJ music selection could use some improvement including more diversity like Creole, Haitian and Island music)

Beach & Pool:
The beach was very clean and an organized with chairs and huts. We didn’t wear sandals to walk on the sand. Perfect for relaxing, quick nap, sipping on a drink or tanning!
Multiple lounge chair, beds and swing set near the pool area and great entertainment.

Transportation:
We utilized a private driver (government official) ; but it is recommended to book your transportation in advance with your reservation. Certain taxi car or company are not safe. Free parking!

Other:
The action happens on the weekend

i recently visited haiti with a tour group and we stayed at the royal decameron hotel, which use to be be the old indigo beach.. nice place and nicely renovated. on the service everything look good but it faded very quick just like ice-cream on a hot day. haitian food is very delicious and intoxicating but the food serve at the buffet was bland and not reflecting of the haitian food culture... some of the food wasn't fresh and a lot of stuff on the menu wasn't available...but what really turn me off is the fact that one of my friend was harass and was also victim of racial prejudice by the staff..we were treated poorly by a foreign company in a black country. we complained to management and his behavior was equally insulting and demeaning to us. i highly recommended visiting haiti but would not recommend this hotel.. haiti has a lot of great smaller hotel, i would suggest you try them out.

This was my family's first time at Decameron Haiti resort. We were greeted by Sadrine who was just delightful. She accommodated us with a adjoining rooms with our girls. The staff was very welcoming and respectful. The rooms were clean, we had enough towels. The food was average. I don't eat rice every day however I'm also not a salad eater. The beach is the most beautiful beach I've ever been to and that is from someone who travels a lot. We were there during the riots and we felt totally safe. The resort provided us with SWAT TEAM and Haitian police to the airport. They made sure that we got there safely. We really appreciated their concern about our safety. I think people expect too much and some can be snobbish towards the staff. As Haitians you know who you are! I think people should realize this is a third world country that is struggling and complaining will only make the tourism industry worst. Give them a chance to grow and improve. Don't eat your young. Remember if you can't say something nice then don't say it at all unless you are making suggestions that will improve the condition. We should suggest how to improve this beautiful resort and not try to destroy it with hateful comments! I agree I've been to better resorts however I knew what I was getting: a simple down to earth experience in the country that I came from. Let's pray for Haiti to recover from all the bad luck it has had. Let's pray for self sufficiency so our people will not depend on foreign help. At last please tip the workers because they get paid in gourd not American dollars. Be nice, if you smile and treat them as human beings they will reciprocate. God bless Haiti!!
