Detailed Reviews
Had a delightful overnight stay in Canso. As this was "off season" we were happy to find something open after a long day of driving and enjoying the beauty of Nova Scotia. The Last Port Motel is a small 50's type motel with a restaurant on site and a delightful staff. The room was very simple but extremely clean with very comfortable beds and very quiet! Home cooked food was good in the restaurant and the motel even had wifi!

Very clean rooms, great wi-fi, an incredible restaurant (go for the sea food chowder and be more than satisfied), and wonderful breezes that keep those annoying flying critters at bay. The staff was extremely accommodating and more than understated. Very easy to park right in front of your room and unload. Everything is very low key and you are made to feel welcome right from the start. We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND, this friendly place whilst enjoying all that the very much off the road (not really, everything is paved) town of Canso has to offer.

My friend and I realized that we would be arriving late, so she called to let the motel know. Whoever she spoke to told her which room was ours and how to get in. This worked out fine for our 10 pm arrival. The room wasn't anything special, but it was what we needed. The next day there was no one around till 11 am, so we called to find out the exact amount charged to my credit card. This, too, worked out OK.

+1
The Last Port was a shining beacon that guided me and my fellow travellers into a fun and affordable safe haven. My father, brother, and I had planned a visit to Guysborough County to get out of the city. We booked two rooms at the Last Port and were given helpful directions on how to get there by the easy-going but nevertheless diligent employees. The Last Port served as a perfect base of operations for our day trips and place to return to rest. The grounds were well-maintained and featured a lot of interesting details that drew us out of our room. The rooms were very clean, with lots of pillows and bedding, and lots of attention to decor and furniture choices, which made us feel like captains on our own ship. At night, we were able to enjoy cold beers that we stored in the mini-fridge, play cards on the desk provided, and use the Smart TV in our room to log into our favourite streaming sites. In the August morning, I was able to walk around and spot hummingbirds, sparrows, Cedar Waxwings, and Hermit Thrushes in the immediate area. We also enjoyed the restaurant A LOT and really enjoyed getting to know Tam and the gang even more. The Last Port helped us to enjoy the surrounding area as much as possible. This certainly won't be the last time that we book a room there.

Had to go to Canso for a funeral. Stayed here for two nights. The staff did everything they could to help us out. We were there during the off season in late November. They offer to come in early if we need breakfast and offered to cook us sometime and leave it in the room, since we had long days.

Very clean, double bed was a bit too soft, small bathroom with shower. No air conditioning and the room was surprisingly hot given that it had been a cloudy day and was a foggy 15C when we arrived. Also smelled of cigarette smoke although it is a non-smoking motel. The motel office/restaurant closes at 8pm so call ahead to confirm your arrival or you might not have a room. Fortunately we called ahead and the Owner arranged to leave a key in the door to our room with check-in the next morning. We arrived at about 9:30 pm (interesting but long and bumpy drive along the Eastern Shore) Friendly people, Light swiches were not beside doors so I appreciated the night lights.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. After reading some of the reviews, we didn't expect much, but to our surprise we had a lovely overnight stay! The rooms were clean and just what we needed for an over night stop. We also ate at the restaurant which was fab! The owner went out of her way to make us welcome and the food was great!
The only disappointing thing was no place for coffee in the morning. We are early risers and could have brought our own coffee if we had realized no coffee pot in the room. But we made out ok. Went for a tour around and a short visit and was back in time for breakfast at the motel and then we were on our way!
The new owner of this motel is doing everything she can to make your stay comfortable and affordable. She deserves a thumbs up and a chance to make it successful. I would return if in the area again.

Canso is a very small out of the way town in Nova Scotia, the Last Port motel is the only place in town. It's okay, dated but okay. There is no air conditioning, but the windows open. The wifi is a little iffy and cuts in and out frequently. But it's an okay place and you can't beat the price.

The room was OK... There were 3 beds, so a little tight, but good.
Would love a coffee pot in room, especially since you don't know when the restaurant will open...
Very quiet, and nice small playground for the kids.

We held our family reunion in Canso during August 2012 and had most of the rooms at the motel booked never heard a complaint from any of the family who were guests. I had a motor home and the owner treated me as family, allowed me to park on his property and checked on us to ensure all was going well. I can not speak of the beds o the smell of smoke ,however I was in the rooms and did not smell smoke or any thing else. I lived in canso for the first 15 years of my life and enjoy going back, please people do not forget your roots. Great place great people and an excellent time.
