The Villa Trapp was the residence of the world-famous Von Trapp family, whose life in Salzburg entered history as "The Sound of Music", the most popular musical of all times. The villa is maintained in the style of this period, including 2 luxurious, 60 m² suites. They are exclusively furnished. In the past the Villa Trapp was not accessible to the public. Now you can sleep in the family's rooms and walk on their paths through the villa and the park. This stately building enjoys a quiet location close to the centre of Salzburg, surrounded by the city's largest private park.

My twelve-year-old daughter and I enjoyed a lovely two nights at this historic inn. The staff is wonderful and accommodating and the rooms are large and comfortable. Do not hesitate to book this quiet hotel on the outskirts of the old city of Salzburg. (A bus stop is just a five minute walk away and Old Town about ten to fifteen minutes by bus.) We appreciated the history of the house and the openness of the staff. Book with confidence!

I had posted a review a few weeks back on villa trapp’s inefficiency on refund and how they haven’t been responding to any emails to update the status. We received the amount back a few days ago. We feel so relieved and hence have removed the review. However I would stand by my statement on how unprofessional their administration is. While I honestly believe the refund didn’t come because I wrote a bad review, I strongly think it has everything to do with a laid back administration. I would however like to thank the administration for still acting on the refund despite the negative review I had posted. Please do take into consideration the stress others go through. It’s unnecessary and does give you a bad reputation. Villa trapp will have guaranteed customers despite such experiences but requesting you to not take that for granted because remember you’re ruining the childhood memories of a lot of us. Thank you Katherine and Julia for being sweet and patient.

Whilst this Von Trapp (Sound of Music Home) is full of history it is unfortunate that they do not make it inviting. It was very interesting and had interest even in the grounds, however, the staff in charge do nothing to share the history of the place. Things badly need updating in bathrooms and the bed was uncomfortable.
It is a fair way out of Salzburg central so factor that in as Salzburg itself is well worth a visit.

We booked in March, right before quarantine began, for a July 2020 stay and cancelled our reservation 5 days later. I've written more emails than I can count and I've had one response from Marianne saying she'll look into it but never heard back. Very disappointed in the way business is handled here.

This place is extremely creepy and severely unwelcoming. They offer zero assistance and are never there. If you check in after hours they leave your key in an envelope outside their front doors so ANYONE can come in. Very unsafe method and they simply don’t care about your comfort but they will siphon out your money with a smile. We literally left 4 days early and lost $520 we already paid for , simply because this “hotel” is a joke

If you're a "Sound of Music" like me, then this is a fun place to visit. This is the house that the Von Trapp family lived in before they escaped. The thing is, it is nothing like the house in the movie, so you have to keep your expectations in check. I did find it fun to learn about the story of the Von Trapp family and to know how they actually escaped (by taking the train!). The house is an old-fashioned villa and offers comfort and nostalgia. It was a little pricey but I think worth it for a night.

Villa Trapp is a beautiful, historical site Sound of Music fans dream of staying during their visits in Salzburg. Unfortunately, this hotel is run by dishonest management who steals money from their guests. If you want to change your reservation on booking.com, good luck getting your refund back. You will have a tough time getting it back even though booking.com says you may cancel free of change. See other related posts.

Our case is slightly different. We made a non-refundable reservation and wanted to change our booking because we changed our itinerary. We emailed Villa Trapp and a staff graciously agreed to change our reservation and assured that they would have a room for us. A week before our arrival, Villa Trapp management messaged us and told us they did not have a room for us. We called many times. Villa Trapp almost never picked up the phone. After we had wasted hours trying to call Villa Trapp, the staff who helped us change our reservation finally picked up the phone and explained to us that he already changed for us but his manager (the Villa Trapp management) did not like the change he made for us and removed our reservation from the system. The management also made no attempts to notify us until the very last minute (one week before our arrival while we were traveling in Germany).

After we provided all the written evidence to booking.com, thankfully, booking.com acknowledged Villa Trapp had no right to charge us because they did not provide us the room they promised. booking.com helped us find another hotel to stay and agreed to refund the amount Villa Trapp charged us.

We no longer had to panick finding a place to stay in Salzburg. In the same morning, Villa Trapp sent us an email trying to sell us their vacant room but for a higher price at £120. We turned them down because we have already been relocated. However, they charged £120 on our card the next day. A couple of days after, they forwarded us a booking confirmation which says we gave them our credit card information over the phone and made a 3-day reservation. We were puzzled. Why did they have to make stuff up? And you know what? They charged our credit card again. Oh, that explains why. They fabricated a booking confirmation so that they could make up a reason to charge our credit card again.

We will continue our fight until we get our money back! Fortunately, communication between us and Villa Trapp was mostly done through emails and booking.com's website. It is so easy to see a bunch of flaws in their fabricated booking confirmation. We never not planned to stay in Salzburg for 3 days. We made all of our hotel reservatations far in advance. Why would we ever make a 3-day reservation in Villa Trapp? Our card info was already given to them via the Booking.com app. Why would we give them our card info again over the phone (like they said we did)?

Villa Trapp probably got our credit card information from booking.com after we made a reservation in Aug. As you can see, it is extremely dangerous, when your credit card information is in the hand those people.

We will continue to deal with the unauthroized, fraudulent transaction they made with our credit card information they got from booking.com. It is a pain, but we will not give up!

The management will probably respond to this review angrily with more lies. We have all the written proofs of exactly what happened. Please look at their deceitful responses to other negative reviews. They always twist the facts to protect themselves. Poor guests like us just wanted to have a good visit in Salzburg but ended up wasting most of our time dealing with these scammers.

Booked Maria suite via booking.com for €200 for 1 night. Payment was taken by hotel straight away as per their terms.
Owner emailed to confirm booking and advise no direct bathroom access from bedrooms so I asked to be switched to Baron suite instead. They asked I do this via booking.com which I did via a three way conversation. The owner then proceeded to charge my card another €200. Obviously thinking this was an error I waited for my refund. After over 17 emails and calls and 2 weeks they still refused to credit my account. Booking.com were also chasing refund on my behalf. The owner also advised i had paid the incorrect price anyway as that room should have been almost double in price to what i was actually charged. They said they had to wait for their end of month bank statement proving that I had paid twice.
I emailed my banks statements over proving both !its of money had been charged but they still refused my refund on the Maria suite.
In the end I had to contact my bank and log an unauthorized transaction just to get my money back.
I then received an email saying both my rooms had been cancelled and yet they still did not refund money on the second room. After another 2 weeks I had to log a second dispute with my bank to get my money back.
This is a disgraceful way to conduct a hotel business and a complete abuse of customer credit cards. Be warned!
Out of curiosity I looked at the rooms and surprise surprise. They had both been relisted at double the cost to coincide with the sound of music anniversary dates no doubt.
Book at your own jeopardy!

In early April, I travelled to Austria with family members. I wanted to share my favorite places (among them, Salzburg) with them and make it a very special trip. Part of that special experience was going to be staying at the Villa Trapp. I booked the rooms well in advance, prepaying, as is their policy. Approximately one month before our departure, I upgraded one of the rooms I had booked. So, I cancelled the one room and booked the nicest suite in the villa, Maria's Suite (again prepaying). When I noticed that I never got a refund for the cancelled room, I submitted an inquiry regarding the refunded amount via Booking.com (through whom I booked the hotel rooms). A few days later, Booking.com said there had been no response from the Villa Trapp and that I should contact them directly. So, I sent the Villa Trapp an email directly. When they also did not reply to that email, I decided I would just speak to them in person upon check in.

When we then checked in, the woman at the hotel reception already knew about the cancellation. She told me this happens all the time and that I would get a refund of the amount (minus a cancellation fee, of course). She said it just takes time for the refund to be processed. She stated that it can take several weeks. That seemed odd to me, but she assured me it was their “standard operating procedure.” By the way, I noticed when I glanced at the sign in sheet in the breakfast room that the room I had booked and then cancelled was, in fact, rented to someone else.

When I checked out, another woman was working at the reception desk. Before I could even say anything, she handed me my paperwork and said, "my colleague told you already about the refunded amount you will receive, yes?" I said, yes, I had been told it takes a few weeks.

I waited one month. Nothing happened. No refund was issued. So, I packaged up the paperwork (proof of payment, the confirmation of cancellation, the credit card transactions), with a letter stating all that I have written here, and sent it via Air Mail to the Villa Trapp management. It was a lot of effort to assemble this package of materials; I wanted to give them the opportunity to make things right.

There was no reply. Another month has since passed.

I am truly astonished by this course of events. I would have expected much greater professionalism from an Austrian establishment. Do they expect me to just forget this and do nothing? Does their reputation mean so little to them?

I recently withdrew my initial review so that I could resubmit it. The first time I posted it, the Villa Trapp management said they had issued me a refund and that they have proof. Well, I checked with my credit card company to verify that there had still been no refunded transaction. They confirmed that there had been no refund issued by Villa Trapp and urged me to contact Villa Trapp directly, which I then did. I asked Villa Trapp management please to provide proof of this refund they supposedly issued. No reply. It’s been several weeks since I contacted them.

I am done waiting.

The Villa Trapp management lied to me. Apparently their “standard operating procedures” involve taking something beautiful, like the Villa Trapp, and using it to cheat tourists. (Bait and switching rooms, cheap amenities, not issuing refunds—these things seem to be their “standard operating procedures.” Just look at the many TripAdvisor reviews that focus on the management rather than the villa.) It’s rather a shame that they have to cheapen something that is not only very beautiful, but also a symbol of their desired self image as a nation.

I have been travelling around the World with a family of 5.We have stayed in good, bad and ugly. The house is fantastic and was quite sentimental for all of us.I believe originally the owner wanted to build a Hotel on the site and was not allowed. The way it is run, thank goodness they were not allowed.A can of oil for the doors that squeak like the age they are would be great. No security light inside the entrance with tiny steps that make it an obstacle course.Oh the globes have been taken out of the Family suite so you get one out of four,so bring a torch. Its cold, not to worry they turn the heating of to make sure you feel it.Its dark and dingy and you feel like your in a Morgue. It is run as cheap as possible.A beautiful home which deserves much better owners who care about it.Do the Original Sound of Music Tour an absolute must and we had the best time of any Tour and the scenery was spectacular. This House is worth a drive pass ,which you get on the Tour but not a stay.
