Offering a bridge between modernity and the past the Heritage Avenida Liberdade Hotel is a space that is truly urban, Lisbon and Portuguese, that enriches the city's heritage. The Restoration and recent revamping maintains all elements of the 18th-century facade on a project of the internationally famous architect Miguel Câncio Martins. The location makes it incredibly convenient for the old city, on the corner of the exclusive Avenida da Liberdade and the ancient Largo da Anunciada.

Hotel's Favourite
A beautifully refurbished historic building on the tree-fringed 19th century Avenida da Liberdade, this is a glorious boutique hotel in an exclusive part of the city, close to the Elevador da Gloria funicular railway that takes you up to Bairro Alto and also to Restauradores metro (on the blue line). We had a stunningly comfy and quiet room with a castle view and complimentary port! The staff and the facilities here are all fabulous. There’s even a delightful pool area. It’s the perfect base to explore the city.

Stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. Great location, great decor with a spacious and nicely appointed room. Super friendly and helpful staff too. Close to many good restaurants and easy access to the photogenic old town area. Booked directly and cost for 3 nights: 440 Euros.

Wifi very good, bed was comfy and the towels and linens were high quality. Bathroom was modern and nice too, with a bidet as well.....and had a nice tub (never used, however) and a rather small shower area with a curtain that allowed water to splash out onto the floor and would be drawn in (and tend to drape the user) whilst in use. We eventually discovered that if you throttled back significantly on the water pressure coming from the shower head (great water pressure, btw) then the curtain did less "draping". As we peeked into other rooms, we noticed that this curtain arrangement was a common feature. Not a very big deal, just the only real fault we found on our stay

The breakfast was ok. Enjoyed the fresh juices and coffee the most. Didn't seem as if the breads, nor the fruit were as fresh as other places we stayed.

We were given a "superior room" which was #20 on the 2nd floor (what Americans call the 3rd floor). The room was a bit larger than the standard room (which was just as nice otherwise) and had a small balcony with opened up to the main street. The view was lovely, but came with noise. Even though the glass was double paned and greatly reduced it, it still required for us to use earplugs.

We noticed that room 25 was at the opposite end of the hallway and would have been the quieter option in a comparable room, fyi. But despite this, we still think this hotel deserves 5 stars, as it is truly a top notch place to stay.

An uber runs about 8 Euros to the airport and takes about 20 minutes or less. I hope you found our review helpful : )

The Heritage Avenida Liberdade is perfectly situated on Lisbon’s grand main boulevard and has glimpses of its historic past in the decor and old fashioned check in desk. The service was very friendly and efficient. Our room was spacious with a large very comfortable bed and sofa area, with all the amenities you would expect of a 4 star hotel. The wooden shutters kept the room totally dark at night although couldn’t quite mask the traffic noise which you could still hear - although not enough to be a real problem. The bathroom was large and nicely appointed with double sinks, a separate shower and bath and Molton Brown toiletries. We liked the 24 hour free availability of tea, coffee, water, port and sweet wine in the bar area, and (if you were lucky!) some pasteis de nata.
Breakfast had an excellent choice of hams, cheeses, fish, breads, pastries, a lovely fresh fruit salad and yoghurts to set you up for walking Lisbon’s hilly streets. An excellent choice for a city break.

This hotel is definitely in an amazing location!! The rooms are ok, very dark, bathrooms not the best, shower curtains and old tubs, musty smell in the bathrooms as well.

Breakfast was good and a nice touch having a glass of port at anytime.

Staff when we arrived was quite rude, we had a 6 hour flight delay, asked if he could call the restaurant for us to tell them we were on our way, as we had made the reservation weeks before, the restaurant is very popular and only would hold the table for 15 minutes, we wanted to get our bags to the room and freshen up and he flat out said "NO", he told us to run the restaurant was up the street and what good would it do if he called? We ended up running up the street like we were told to make our reservation.

Afterwards we tried to find a place for a nightcap after wondering around we couldn't find anything, went back to the hotel asked the same front desk staff for some advice on where to go as it was Saturday night, he just shrugged and said I don't know, try downtown, we walked for a while and since arriving at night we didn't know where downtown was and he was no help giving us directions. He was very condescending and not the welcome we were hoping for in Lisbon.

Unfortunately, we had to stay a second time at this hotel on our way back through Lisbon, we would have definitely cancelled after the treatment we received the first time through but unfortunately we had already prepaid and it was non-refundable and I do have to say that the front desk staff was way better and we were able to get an early check-in as well, which was great. We stayed in a different room but again the same problem as the first one, room was dark, shower curtain, very old tub and again the same musty smell.

Overall location was great & breakfast was good.

Planning for our stay in Portugal we booked this hotel the night of our arrival and for the night before departure. British Air changed schedules forcing us to arrive a day later forcing us to cancel the arrival night. We did stay our last night in Lisbon and were pleased with every aspect of the hotel be it the staff, our room, the location or the included breakfast.
Arriving from the train station by taxi, we entered the door facing Avenida da Liberdade and carried our luggage down a short flight of stairs. We realized after checking in there’s a ramp into the hotel from the doors facing the side street which makes bringing luggage in much easier. Oh, well. Check in was quick with a brief introduction to the facilities, amenities and breakfast details.
Our deluxe Lisboa room was on the third floor overlooking Avenida da Liberdade through the trees. Double sets of Double doors opened to two Juliet balconies, which when closed, eliminated both outside light and traffic noise. We slept soundly in a comfortable King size bed, A/C providing sufficient cool air. The bathroom had both a tub and separate shower and double sinks. Everything was in working order.
Breakfast was served at the rear of the reception area past the access ramp from the side street. Yes, as one reviewer pointed out, one sits in a stuffed chair with the plate of food on their lap, but it worked fine. Breakfast was good to begin the day. Although we were given a museum pass we didn’t use it due to lack of time and the fact this was our third trip to Lisbon. Overall, we liked this hotel better than the much larger Tivoli up the street where we stayed two nights before heading north. Heritage Avenida offered us everything we needed. When we return to Lisbon, this hotel will be our destination.

The hotel was excellent, well placed in the centre of town; comfortable and with friendly staff. A bottle of port awaited us on arrival and a bottle of wine came to our room to celebrate a special birthday. In reception, coffee, port and the famous custard tarts were available all day.

Very enjoyable place to stay and staff were great, always attentive and helpful. It was always nice to go down to breakfast and be greeted with a very warm, Bom dia! The breakfast was great and some of those bread choices that I had never had before were very delicious. The eggs needed a little seasoning but its probably best to let guests season their own to taste preference. Very much appreciate the breakfast and its a great relaxing environment. I actually enjoyed the hotel perhaps more so than I enjoyed the city or it could’ve been the rainy weather that was a downer but I’m very grateful for the Heritage Avenida Liberdade Hotel providing my wife and I such a great place to stay.

Special shoutout to the young lady who greeted us upon our early morning arrival at the hotel. I was expecting to have to leave our luggage and wait a few hours for the room but instead she got us a room on the ‘E’ floor, room number 1. Perhaps some might not want this room considering it was so close to the street on the corner but we enjoyed it. Even when there was a huge street party at night, we enjoyed listening to the live music from our window. The neighborhood is also very nice and walking distance to various attractions and locations isn’t too bad. For me it was easy. For my wife, she isn’t a fan of walking unless the pay off is a store like Louis Vuitton or Chanel, which you’ll find an LV store a few blocks away. 🙄 But for me, my payoff was finding the restaurant known for their Bifana sandwiches. Wow! Delicious and flavorful! I forgot the name of the restaurant but its close by near the train station. There’s also the place nearby with the infamous Pasteis da natas. Those are truly a delicious dessert. The hotel has miniature versions of what you’ll buy at Fabrica da Nata.

On one of the day’s that we spent in Lisbon, we took a day trip to Fatima, Batalha, Nazare and Obidos. That was a 9 hour day and my wife and I were completely worn out especially with the constant rainfall and getting drenched in Fatima. Coming home to the warmth and relaxed vibe of Heritage Avenida Liberdade was such a welcome relief that based on this alone I can definitely recommend this hotel 100%. Abrigadu!

Dear Dream331, Thank you very much for your kind words. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and in particular our attentive and helpful staff and our privileged location in the exclusive Avenida Liberdade (and yes, Louis Vuitton and Chanel are also located in this Boulevard ;) The name of the restaurant you refer to is Café Beira Gare, just in front Rossio Station (trains to Sintra). This small café is indeed very popular for its Bifana sandwiches. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again soon in our picturesque city. Bom Ano Novo! Diogo Laranjo General Manager

We were very happy with our multi-day stay. The ground floor room is a very comfortable and restful space. Breakfast is available in this room until noon, which creates a very restful start to the guest experience. Port and Madeira wines are available later in the day. The hotel is very well located, the rooms are quiet, well furnished and comfortable. The service is competent and friendly. This is not a glitzy space but a comfortable short term home in Lisbon. Highly recommended. We will return.

My husband and I stayed at this charming hotel for 4 nights in room 54. The room was spacious with beautiful views of the city. The well insulated walls and the shuttered windows were perfect for sleeping. Housekeeping did an excellent job.
The 2 people who worked at reception went above and beyond in providing excellent service in recommending restaurants, wine shops (Garrafeira Nacional) and information where to go for Covid testing for our return to the US. There was a pharmacy a few blocks away that take appointments. Otherwise, people wait in long lines without appointments.
Breakfast in the lobby was fantastic. Items included: bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, beans, imberico ham, cheeses, variety of bread, fresh fruit, olives, tomatoes, juices, coffee, tea and the best of all the delicious Belem pastry.
Port, muscatel, coffee, tea, Belem pastry, and water were complimentary in the lobby 24 hours.
The location was ideal as reviewers had stated.
It was evident that sanitary precautions during the Covid concern was high priority.
We greatly appreciated the sparkling wine and the port sent to our room.
We found our perfect hotel in Lisbon and will return again. The rates were reasonable as well.

My daughter and I had a lovely three-day stay here in a beautiful room with high ceilings, comfort beds and a well-equipped bathroom. Breakfast is served in the stylish lobby, with tasty bacon and eggs cooked to order while we enjoyed muesli or fresh fruit salad.

Great central location, friendly staff and good value. Definitely deserves a return visit.

The pool in the basement is small, more a plunge pool. It is free and there I think 2-4 loungers and showers. Not sure about towels etc. I would not recommend it as a swimming or lounging pool, more a quick refresh. Not a place to lounge in my opinion. Very clean etc but small and enclosed. Hope that helps. The hotel I would recommend!

Like most hotels, the size of the room and what the room looks over dictates the rate of each room. We have always booked one of the larger rooms that looks out over the Avenida da Liberdade, which is a beautiful street.
