The Ghent Marriott Hotel is commended for its professional and caring staff, with many guests highlighting the team's friendliness. While it boasts a prime location perfect for exploring the city and enjoying scenic riverside vistas, opinions on value are divided, with some guests put off by high parking fees despite appreciating the central location. The hotel's atmosphere and room decor receive mixed reviews, with a modern yet occasionally dated feel. However, cleanliness is consistently praised, ensuring a comfortable and tidy stay.

This is more like a business hotel situated right in the centre of the old town. The hotel interior is very modern and clean with the old building frontage on the canal.
The room was excellent, large clean and quiet – but a shower over the bath is a negative point.
Has its own parking garage – a bit low in places 1.70 m. and €40 per day, which it probably o.k. given that you just leave the car and wander around the town.
The staff (especially at the breakfast) were really friendly and helpful.
The quality and variety of the breakfast was very good (including a glass of Cava if you fancied it), but the breakfast dining rooms are cramped and it could be very busy if the hotel is heavily booked. We were lucky to be helped by a lovely lady working at breakfast time.
Did not try the restaurant – seemed a bit pricey.
Nice bar area - although you would not describe it as cosy - with a pianist on the Friday that we stayed there. The bar snacks were quite nice

Not a cheap option, but the location and facilities are just about worth the money

We stayed at the Ghent Marriott location for three nights which included New Year’s Eve. The hotel it waterfront near Saint Michael’s Bridge, perfectly located by all of the major sites in Ghent and the Winterfest. It is a modern hotel with a traditional facade. It is also very close to a well appointed grocery store for incidentals. Parking is easy and the breakfast offerings are also wonderful, providing a large variety of food options amenable to all in our family. The greatest thing about the hotel is that we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go.

We specifically wanted to mention Gregory Mouton as he stood out during our visit. He was working on New Year’s Eve and made a great stay for our family of five even more enjoyable. Gregory went above and beyond to ensure the needs of all staying at the hotel were met and their stay was enjoyable. Thanks, Gregory, for creating such a welcoming environment. For those looking for an excellent place to stay in Ghent, look no further!

Perfect location and comfortable room. The front of the hotel (riverside) appears to be an old, historic hotel. But a few steps in and you enter into a large modern atrium with lots of natural light and plenty of seating and an inviting atmosphere.

We booked a Jr Suite, only a few rooms have a river view. While our room did not have a view it was very comfortable, with a separate living room, 1 ½ baths with mini bar that had a fridge and coffee station. Our fridge was filled with a variety of beverages both days as a titanium welcome gift, plus daily waters. Both bathrooms were large, good water pressure and plush towels. Bed was very comfortable on the softer side, which we prefer. Only negative was lack of USB charging ports in the room, makes it challenging with multiple devices. And you do need to use your key for the lights in the room to work.

While the hotel was sold out during our stay, it never felt crowded and all staff members were very courteous and helpful with any ask.

No M club lounge, but you get breakfast in lieu of. Breakfast was a full buffet spread and offered a variety of hot and cold choices. We had dinner one evening in the lobby. Very large TV over the bar where we enjoyed the UK/France soccer game. All the food was very good and reasonability priced. We were happy with our meals.

Daily housekeeping was available and didn’t have to be requested.

You can take a tram to the city center from the St. Pieters train station, but a 10 min, $15 taxi is easier with luggage. The hotel is within walking distance to all of the city’s sights, shopping, xmas market and restaurants. Made it very convenient to return to the hotel throughout the day to rest and freshen up as needed.

We really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

The hotel is located in a fantastic area; It is just seconds away from the picturesque city centre, so there is a lot going on at day and night. Bed and pillows were comfy and the room was very quiet, so the quality of sleeping was good.

The room (405) was rather dated. The shower's head was broken, so it was the iron. The furniture was also run-down; chipped corners could be noticed everywhere; the right-hand side bedside table drawer was broken, and so was the door of the desk drawer. The network plug has been pushed through the socket and that had left a hole in the switch panel. The bath tab has rust stains on the side. The room does not have a usb connections, but they sell chargers for 15 euros at reception.

We did not get any breakfast, but that was also 25 euros pp.

Cleaning was also rather bad...There was something under the right hand side bedside table, which I am ready to bet is still there. We saw the cleaners around, and they were not carrying a hover...

The room includes a kettle with tea and instant cafe, but there is no water. Water can be bought at the reception; it is worth considering that we bought 2 bottles of sparking water for 7 euros.

If you want to order through room service, there is a whopping 9 euro service charge, and that is to get your order delivered to your room in up to 45mins.

Last but not least, parking is totally overpriced. It costs 15 euros just to book the parking space, plus 40 euros daily. We eventually spent 21 euros in total for 2.5 days at closest indoor parking lot, which was about 3-4mins away from the hotel.

Would l I return? While I can ignore room imperfections and crazy prices, I expect the room to be perfectly cleaned, so no, I would not return.

Dear guest, thank you for your elaborate feedback. I appreciate you have taken the time to inform us about your stay, which allows us to take action where needed. Your comments have been shared with our housekeeping and maintenance managers to see if certain items in the room need repair or replacement. Kindly note that fixed network connections have been replaced with good quality wifi a long time ago. USB connections are available at the back of the TV or via various types of adaptors, available at reception. Note that all other charges are indicated as well. We have an M-shop downstairs next to the reception, and 2 supermarkets just 2 minutes walk from the hotel. Limited, secured parking is available under the hotel, and 2 public car parks are available at 6min walking distance.

The hotel is in a great location with easy access to all Ghent has to offer. A lovely location along the waterfront that is bustling during the evening but the hotel is still quiet. A nice blend of an historic frontage and a modern hotel that is a lot larger than it initially appears. The hotel is a typical 4 star Marriott with comfortable, modern accommodations. It slips a bit in housekeeping which never appeared before 4:30pm. After a full day of sightseeing we always returned to our room that had yet to be serviced. The housekeeping staff was lovely and immediately cleaned the room on both occasions but would forget towels , creamer etc. 10 sugar packets and no coffee creamer, but they were super nice ladies. First day taking a shower, the shower head was broken and it was a case of doing acrobatics in the shower. I informed the front desk early in the morning but on returning to the hotel at 4:30pm it was still broken. Staff did immediately replace the shower head after a call to the front desk. So, overall, a decent hotel in a good location just needs a bit more work on the service department.

We used a car park about 1 mile away costing €16 for 24 hours, The car park closer to the hotel cost €40. Breakfast was a extra €29 each hence we didn’t bother here. The room we had was ok clean etc but we did have a few issues in the bathroom with the shower over bath wouldn’t work plus no hot water in the sink. However we did enjoy our drinks downstairs in the bar area at night where the gentleman was playing the piano .

The hotel is perfectly located for a visit to Ghent right in the centre and easy walking distance to all main attractions. The room was a standard Marriott, quality bedding (although Mr H found the bed a little too soft) and everything modern and clean. Usually toiletries in the bathroom although no little packs with nail file, sewing kits and cotton pads. Our room didn’t have much of a view, rooms at the back of the hotel I think would overlook the river and the old city. As others have mentioned the breakfast area is very small however we didn’t find any issue with this just a little bit of shuffling around to avoid bumping into people! Breakfast was excellent quality especially the fruit selection. The usual cooked items however I didn’t see if you could order any omelettes or any other type of egg but perhaps you could ask. I have to mention the young girl who was on reception on Sat 12th when we checked in and again when we checked out on Sunday 13th March (I wish I had remembered her name!) such a lovely professional and helpful young girl a real credit to the hotel! My only reason for not giving 5 stars is I thought the hotel rate quite expensive. I understand central hotels are always a little more expensive but £170 was for me personally a little bit much for what is just a good hotel (not a superior 5 star)

Dear guest Thank you very much for taking the time to send us your feedback. We are delighted to read that you liked your stay. In terms of your specific requests, a few tips for you and future readers to make your next stay even better: -If you need anything extra in your room e.g. bathrobes, slippers, nail files, dental kits etc, just call reception. As a preventive measure, we have removed most items in the room as for covid reasons they need to be thrown away after each guest, used or not. But, we have them ready for you, just 1 call is what it takes. -Whilst we are in the beautiful medieval city centre of Ghent, only the 15 rooms in the medieval houses facing the canal have a river view. This is a specific room type called Canal View Room you can select during the booking process. -The breakfast room and buffet area are also in the medieval houses with spectacular views over the canal. Note that this space, 3 original houses side by side dating from the Middle Ages, is registered as protected national heritage. So we can't just remove walls to make it easier for the breakfast guests. That being said, if you come down for breakfast before 9.30 or after 10.30, you will be able to enjoy a very relaxed breakfast. Scrambled egg is in the buffet, all other egg dishes can be asked from our staff a la carte without extra cost. Again, thank you for staying with us. Note that our Marriott Bonvoy members enjoy extra discounts when booking directly on our website. You can enrol for free if you are not a member yet. Sincerely Laurens Roels, General Manager

The location of this hotel is just perfect, right on the riverside and stunning architecture all around. Quite corporate and bland foyer and lounge area inside but that wasn’t an issue. Our room was very dated and in need of a refit but clean. I wish hotels would put plug sockets either side of the bed and have fresh milk in the fridge - tea with powdered creamer is just a no no.

The key thing for us is it has parking underneath the hotel and also two electric car charge points. A real plus point as we drove from the UK.

Staff were friendly but as everywhere it seems just not enough.

Breakfast perfectly good.

Would recommend and will stay here again.

We were there for one night during our visit in Ghent. The location is spectacular right above the canal with a breath taking view (better ask for a room with canal view). Rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The lobby has an originla design mixing old and new. Breakfast was prrpared with utmost care with the best products and perfect preparation, all offered in a mediaval building that worth the visit by itself.
Highly recommended.

I’m Marriott Gold and am extremely disappointed. Friendly staff but worst Marriott conditions - I’ve stayed in 3 Marriott’s since last year and appreciate the “Marriott Covid Policies”… this Marriott does not follow them. We watched housecleaning wash all our suite’s glasses with only bare hands & water and then put them back on the bar as clean. We watched them use the same cleaning towel from the last room into our room. No disinfectants we’re used in cleaning. There was a sneeze stain across the glass elevator doors for more than 3 days. Housecleaning didn’t even show up until 5:00+ each day while we were getting ready to go to dinner. Suite lights, bathroom fans and cupboard were broken and they said they could not fix them, nor did they have another room to switch us to.

If the Marriott standard of quality matters to you, don’t stay at this one. The only things that represented Marriott quality were the pillows, mattress and comforter.

Dear dp-worldtraveler Thank you for taking the time to inform us about your experience at the Ghent Marriott hotel. I must say that I was very surprised to read about your housekeeping experience. Our commitment to providing you with a clean and safe hotel room is very important for us, for your safety and for our staff. Our cleanliness score year to date is very high, in fact, 75% of our guests even score us a 9 or a 10/10 for this in these challenging times. So what you are describing is ...unexplainable for me at this point. Would you be so kind to reach out to us directly via info@marriottghent.com and let us know your reservation details? Unfortunately via Tripadvisor, I have no link whatsoever to your real name or stay data. I have no way of checking anything or contacting you directly. This situation needs further investigation from our side, that is certain. Again, please accept my apologies. I look forward to hearing from you and to look into this matter in more detail with you directly. Sincerely yours, Laurens Roels, General Manager

Yes I am sure it is possible. Just google “private transfer from Charlerois to Ghent” and you will get many options. I cannot imagine it would be more than 150-180 euros. But ask a couple of services.
