Welcome to Banks Mansion A different kind of house If we had to describe ourselves in traditional terms, we are a boutique luxury hotel situated in Amsterdam’s famed Golden Bend district. But at Banks, we don’t really like labels. We prefer doing things our own way. We are your home next door, filled with friendly, sometimes slightly nosy neighbours who want to make you feel right at home from the moment you enter through our front door. We take the time to get to know you, because more than a onesize- fits-all grand gesture, we know that it’s the little things that make all the difference. Like your favourite cocktail ingredients or tea blend, along with our (almost) famous signature socks, which will be waiting for you in your bedroom. Located alongside the canal in a different kind of house Amsterdam’s Golden Bend, our quirky, familiar atmosphere lets you experience the city like a bonafide local. Grab a bike and explore the town, or borrow Banks’ resident pup for a picnic at Vondelpark. Whatever you choose, our family will hook you up with itineraries, tickets, reservations, guest lists, packed lunches and more. Our uber-personalised service is un-conditional, which simply means that, no matter what, we’ve got your back with the whole shebang. Why do we do all this? Because we are family, and we are here to make sure that your trip to Amsterdam is absolutely epic. Welcome to Banks Mansion, the home next door. Banks Mansion is one of the leading four star hotels in Amsterdam with a dominating factor of presence in the lists of best hotels in Amsterdam. More importantly Banks Mansion is in the top 10 of best hotels in Amsterdam. The hotel features many unique selling points, looking at concept, location, level of staff & ambiance. The so called ‘’All Things Inclusive’’ concept is a worth winner and highly appreciated among the hotel’s target market. As no other hotel in Amsterdam offers such services this is Banks Mansion’s absolute unique selling point.

Room: It was lovely to be able to use the minibar without wondering how much extra was going to be added on your bill. It was a bit noisy where we were (room 109) due to roadworks but the hotel did provided earplugs. The double shower was great and there were extras such as slippers and bath robe provided.

Service: Nothing was too much trouble and all staff were very helpful. The towel swans and rose petals were a lovely gesture (it was our wedding anniversary)

Location: About 20 mins slow walk from the station (we came by train). Anne Frank house, the Hermitage, Church in the Attic, Red Light District and train station were all within walking distance.

Hotel: The Art Deco style is very nice and it made me smile to hear 80s piped music in the lift and bar area. The bar area was a bit devoid of atmosphere, but was a lovely place to sit and relax.

Would def visit again.

We stayed at Banks Mansion for 4 nights and from the minute you arrive you can expect to be very well looked after. The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. The Art Deco style is lovely and the little extras are a nice touch, a little Dutch gift and shopping bag. It’s an all inclusive hotel, you can help yourself to the mini bar which is replenished daily, there was also 3 decanters of whiskey, bourbon and gin to enjoy. Ice is available on the hotel landings. The hotel bar is also self service with a wide variety of alcoholic drinks, tea, coffee and snacks with a 5pm cheese trolley to help yourself to aswell. The location of the hotel is very good and not to far from many of the Dutch attractions, we visited Body world, The Heineken Brewery and took a canal boat trip. We would have loved to visit Ann Frank House but no tickets available, online booking required and well in advance. Next time as we will be back and to Banks Mansion.

We stayed in a Canal View room on the top floor for 4 nights. On arriving at the hotel we were disappointed to find extensive roadworks along the street outside, but need not have worried as we heard absolutely no noise from them at any time in our room. Shame that they spoil the view a bit, but not the hotel's fault and repairs have to be done at some time, after all.

The room was very nice, bed and pillows really comfortable and there's a pillow menu to choose from. Air conditioning worked very effectively which was very important in the hot weather being experienced at this time in Amsterdam. The shower in the bathroom was really spacious, lighting good in the bathroom and plenty of storage room for toiletries. The only thing which could be improved on is the amount of hanging space in the wardrobe for clothes, we didn't find a lot of space for clothes for 2 people for 5 days. Good to have the Nespresso machine and mini bar in the room, we didn't make use of the decanters of spirits after my husband sampled the cognac ad declared it undrinkable, a change of brand should be considered1

Breakfast was great, a good selection and always fresh, the ladies cooking eggs to order were always very friendly and efficient. Loved having my favourite breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The coffee machine in the breakfast room produced the best and strongest coffee I've ever experienced in a hotel. Providing each guest with their own personal tongs to help themselves to breakfast item is a good way of being able to keep offering the breakfast selection whilst implementing hygiene measures.

We enjoyed being able to help ourselves to drinks (everything from tea/coffee to spirits/liqueurs) at any time from the open bar in the lounge, and the wine selection and cheese trolley available from late afternoon was a nice touch. The cute giant teddy bears occupying some of the armchairs in the lounge are a great way of achieving social distancing without being too "officious" about it. The lounge is a nice social space, we enjoyed some pleasant conversations with fellow guests there.

All the staff we met were extremely friendly, professional and helpful, they are a credit to the hotel. All in all we enjoyed our stay tremendously and hope we will be able to return in the future. Thank you everyone.

It is rewarding to read that you have enjoyed your room as well as the service provided by the team, as we strive to deliver the most unforgettable experiences to all of our guests. Many thanks for sharing your husband’s experience regarding our cognac in the decanter in the room. All of our decanters are cleaned and sealed on a daily basis so I will be keen to see why the cognac was not up to his liking. Normally we get a lot of compliments so thank you very much for sharing. I will not hesitate to share your kind words with all members of staff and we would be honored to welcome you back at Banks Mansion. Warm regards, Mark Welbers General Manager

We booked this for my partner birthday, I messaged the hotel to see if we could have something in the room on his arrival. They assured me they would make it extra special and offered a birthday package with cake I declined as we are not really cake people. We checked in everyone was super helpful! In the room there was balloons, chocolate, prosecco, a birthday card and banners. It was beauitful! We wanted to rent some bikes 16 euro a day and we were told it was a birthday gift and we could use them for the day for free it was a very special gesture and we appreciated it very much.

It is very close to the centre 5 min walk. There are some road works going on but nothing that affected our stay! This hotel is nothing short of amazing, the little details, cleanliness, breakfast, all inclusive drinks concept with snacks. They have there own wash brands, hand soap conditioner ect which is very nice.
In our room there is whiskey, cognac ans gin along with the fridge which has several option included and replenished every day.

ALL the staff have been so friendly and accommodating. Its truly a wonderful hotel. THANK YOU BANKS MANSION

Once of the best experiences at a hotel I've ever had. The staff are very professional and welcoming. (Kudos to Elmo!) The hotel is in a beautiful 17th century mansion that has been converted into a charming boutique hotel. The all-inclusive rate includes a fully stocked self-serve bar in the lobby that is available 24 hours as well as free breakfast each morning, wine tasting in the afternoon and cheese and snacks in the evening. The rooms are also stocked with crystal decanters of Gin, Vodka and Whiskey for your convenience. The rooms are beautifully decorated with comfortable furnishings. In the lobby, the stained glass shines a beautiful hue in the room that gives the feeling of warmth and coziness while you enjoy a cocktail next to the fireplace. Bicycles are also available for guests to use if they wish. The location is very conveniently located to all Amsterdam has to offer is and easily accessible by Trams A3 and A4 from central station so investing in day passes is useful. Although the location is within walking distance to everything, it is away from all the noise which was a welcomed perk.

Stayed here for the weekend to surprise my boyfriend with a nice getaway. The ladies at the reception were very friendly and willing to help to get the best out of our stay. Their knowledge about Amsterdam is on a high level and know all the ins and outs about the city. We stayed in a canal view executive room. The room was spacious for a city center hotel, good black out curtains and we were happily surprised about the silence in the room with the windows closed. So we had a good night in the best hotel beds we ever slept in! Also the fact that the mini bar and hotel bar in the "Living room" are included in the overnight rate, makes this hotel unique. After a good breakfast we left the hotel with a big smile.

Stayed here for two nights and I have to say I can’t fault it. Upon arrival at just after 11am we were lucky enough to be able to check in early as our room was ready. The staff member upon arrival was extremely warm and welcoming and very helpful.

The room itself was clean and the added extras of a pillow menu and the free mini bar was perfect.

The hotel itself has an amazing location and is a short walk to the city centre and all tourist hotspots.

The self service free bar and the amazing breakfast it supplies made our stay perfect.

The attention to detail from the staff is outstanding. My partner celebrated his birthday whilst we were there and whilst we were out exploring the city unbeknown to us they had decorated our room with balloons and a banner and left a gift on the bed. A lovely touch that made our stay extra special.

Thank you to the whole Banks Mansion team.
We definitely recommend your hotel and would return in a shot.

KateEmily wrote a review Feb 2023
This is a nice hotel and ideally located in the centre of Amsterdam. Having stayed there in 2021 where I was not particularly happy with my stay I fed this back to the manager who apologised and assured me feedback would be actioned. Following hotel closures and lockdown I was understanding and very much believed this hotel has the potential for an excellent stay hence I booked it again. In 2023 all the issues I previously encountered remained the same and worse.

While the hotel offers an “All Inclusive” service they do not make bottled water readily available in any of the multiple fridges at the bar and not did I have any bottled water in my mini bar. It’s a challenge to get it on request and will typically only be given 2 x 250ml bottles.Having insisted that I was given water on my first morning waking up with a dry throat. When I had requested it the night before the receptionist told me that I could drink tap water?!?!? The bathrooms are beautiful but have a strong smell of sewage at night time, I assume this is due to being directly next to the canal which must do something at night because the smell is not that bad during the day (but extremely unpleasant at night). So the fact that the receptionist had the audacity to tell me I can drink tap water from the bathroom is ludicrous to me in general yet alone a 4 star “All Inclusive” hotel.

No one attended to clean my room on day one. Having called reception at 6pm to inform them, there is was no apology but an attitude that I have to now ask her to bring me clean towels and restock the mini fridge because the cleaners had gone home.

By day 3 it was clear that at no point during my stay did a hoover/vacuum cleaner ever enter my room. There were crumbs that were clearly visible as I ate in my often room.

There is a clear lack of resources where the receptionist are also required to do the cleaning downstairs. This makes them unavailable and inattentive to guests who either have to wait around or are very much made to feel like you’re disbursing them when requiring assistance.

The service itself is less but you pay more. In 2021 there would be 3 crystal decanters in your room filled with whisky, brandy and gin. 2023 this is no longer there but now there are now 2 cheap 250ml, 5% alcohol cocktails in your room instead.

The breakfast is a typical European breakfast with enough options. Chef was a young male, very nice and friendly. However the chef still does not bother to ask if you would like salt in your eggs prior to cooking. Fried/scrambled/omelettes do not absorb salt well after they are already cooked. Eggs are a very international and multicultural breakfast, and simple seasoning of salt prior to cooking is a very basic task for anyone universally.

I will not be staying at Banks Mansion again. There are plenty other options within the vicinity. When you treat yourself to a little luxurious getaway in a 4 star “All Inclusive” hotel you should get just that and not a 2 star service!

Banks Mansion has a great vibe and really knows how to stand out in the competitive hospitality industry. It's All- Inclusive pricing structure is a good deal for those who desire a central location, a comfortable bed to sleep in, interesting company enjoying the lobby / living room with it's open bar, snacks and spacious tables to play games and relax. Wonderful breakfast. We asked for canal facing rooms which would offer great views, however we did find that noisy late night revelers enjoyed singing until the wee hours under our windows all 3 evenings. No fault of the hotel of course, but I would opt next time to choose a room away from the canal. A special shout out to the front desk staff who were VERY helpful to our entire group, especially with regards to obtaining our US Covid tests before departure. Many thanks!

Lewis wrote a review Jan 2023

Let’s start with the positive, before I explain why I cannot leave this hotel with a better review.

The location is amazing and we were able to walk anywhere we wanted within 20 mins. The all-inclusive bar in the lobby also helped us start every day on a toasty note. The folks working at the front desk were very helpful and were able to answer every question quickly. Also, the breakfast buffet was delicious and the staff cooking fresh French toast was so friendly!

There were a few problems though:

(1) The bed in our room was two very uncomfortable twin beds pushed together, with a mattress topper on each mattress. However, the bed tilted towards the window and the topper would slide off throughout the night. Other couples we met who had booked later then us received normal queen sized beds so I’m unsure how they decide who gets these less desirable rooms with awful bedding. We went an entire week without a good nights sleep because of this “system”. There’s only a power outlet on one side of the bed, so good luck keeping more than one phone charged over night.

(2) The ceiling in our bathroom would move and shake with the air conditioning and wind throughout the building. This was noisy and some debris would fall from the ceiling. There was also some rodent feces on our bathroom floor that we complained about - no one ever followed up with us about this. The shower also had lots of moldy mildew around the corners that looks like poor upkeep or cleaning. The person at the front desk wrote this down but seemed rather unbothered, like they were aware of this issue. They said maintenance would return on January 2 and take a look because they were away for the new year. Nope, no one showed up.

(3) The front door locks after a very early time each night. You have to buzz in and wait for someone to unlock the door with a button at the front desk. In a city like Amsterdam, most people are spending late nights at a bar or restaurant, so this was an issue when on one occasion we waited for nearly five minutes in the rain to get back inside. We also ordered some food via Uber Eats and the delivery person could not figure this doorbell situation out so he abandoned his delivery and left us hungry. There needs to be a large sign explaining this and guests should be informed when checking in. Even better, install a key reader so that we can enter with our room keys… this seems like a no brainer.

Dear Lewis, Thank you for your stay and writing a review about our home. We’re happy to see that our front staff was able to accommodate you and help you with your questions. Your compliments will be passed on to them and to our breakfast staff. Our twinbed is a boxspring with a topper on it as a bedding type. Upon booking, you are able to let us know your preference and we will try to give you the desired type. This is based on availability. It is possible that the other couples had let us know upon arrival and we were able to accommodate them in their preference. Our staff will always try to make your experience better if you have any problems with the room and we have extra powerportals at our front desk which you can use in your room. I’m sorry to see that there was no follow up about the ceiling and we will have a talk about it with our Technical Department. As well as with our Housekeeping Manager about the stains that we’re in the shower. We have a high standard about this in our hotel, so we will make sure that it will not happen again. For safety reasons we have to close the frontdoor in the evening to guarantee the safety of our guests and staff. I will make sure that there is a sign on the door which will point out our intercom system. Our deepest apologies to you for the discomfort during your stay. We hope to have you back again at Banks Mansion and we’re able to redeem ourselves. If you have any questions, please sent an e-mail to desk@banksmansion.nl with respect to Josine. Check in isn't until 2 pm so there may well be a delay with them having your room ready. Other travelers have until 11 am to check out. There is a full, complimentary bar in the lobby complete with coffee and non-alcoholic beverages as well. I would certainly check with the front desk to see if you could use the breakfast room the morning of your arrival.
