We stayed here in March 2020 for a couple of nights and can’t rate this hotel highly enough. Very clean and comfortable family run establishment just a few minutes walk from the station. Would highly recommend and will definitely be staying here again.

We stopped here for one night after travelling the Bernina Express from Tirano. I had ensured that we travelled so we were in Chur on a weekend as only then in April is the cable car running.
This hotel in the old town was just what we needed without paying exorbitant amounts. We were greeted by Janice who is making. She went out of her way to make us welcome. The rooms actually look better than the photos, quite large and the bathrooms are great. The breakfast was exceptional with a diverse range of foods in a buffet style- all freshly made.
Janice allowed us to have our own dinner ( picnic) in the table by the bar area as long as we bought something from the bar. She was very kind and provided plenty of useful information.
As we were staying in the hotel she gave us a chur pass. This pass enabled discounts on the cable car that takes you to the top of the mountain - lots of cycle and ski enthusiasts use it throughout the year. Panoramic views from the top- about an hour round trip with a short walk included.
Overnight was plenty for Chur. We caught the train to Luzern after the overnight stop.

Nice clean and warm hotel a 10 min walk slightly uphill from the station. Just one or two steps to navigate inside to the lift and restaurant. As other reviews have said, downsides were no coffee-making facilities in room and early group checkout at 9.30 even though we weren't leaving until 11. Pleasant staff. Lovely quality food for group meals, but only a small portion served first and then seconds (up to the same quantity again) offered afterwards. As across Switzerland, wine expensive. Thought CHF25 was OK for a bottle of local wine till I realised it was only 50cl.

Prime example of how a nice hotel can be spoiled by rude staff. The place is perfectly located and oozes charm and character (the building, not the staff). It's a very old building but nicely maintained. Our room was in a different wing and we loved our very short walks to the room up the stairs and over an enclosed "bridge" above the street. The hotel is really pretty and the room was comfortable, well equipped and spacious. The breakfast was delicious and the breakfast staff were friendly and efficient at refilling food. Good selection of hot and cold foods and great coffee. The value of the hotel was good too and we enjoyed our stay in Chur very much. However, reception staff, both ladies we dealt with, were very rude, inattentive and unpleasant. When you're checking in, and a person acts like the guest is an inconvenience and not welcome, it really spoils the perception of the hotel and the whole stay. We were so disappointed as we didn't feel like we deserved such treatment. The night before we stayed in a budget hotel in Zurich and the staff were so friendly that we couldn't believe it. So we came to Hotel Freieck with high spirits, smiles all around and hoping for receiving a smile back but we got rude grunts instead. Every time we asked a question we would get an impolite and arrogant half-answer. And we dealt with both reception staff on a number of occasions so it was not an isolated incident - they both just dislike tourists and you can feel that. I felt uncomfortable coming in and asking for something because of that attitude. I really don't exaggerate. Terrible. My overall review score would definitely be 4 or 5 stars here but it's a simple math - bad staff = bad reviews, no matter how good your hotel is otherwise.

We stayed here two nights during our 14 day train trip through Switzerland. The hotel is about an 9 minute walk or 0.3 miles from the Chur train station. Because we arrived in Chur about noon, our room was not ready. We left our luggage at reception and explored the town. We were assigned room number 401 and it was accessible via lift (or stairs). It had a queen size bed and a large bathroom with tub/shower combo. The room had plenty of space, but we wish the hotel and room had air conditioning. Breakfast was included, which was excellent. It had a nice variety of cold and hot food. The hotel bar, which we did not use, seem to be busy at night time. The staff and service were wonderful and very helpful in recommendations for dinner and activities. We would definitely stay here again.

The building dates from the 1500s and has a warm, cozy feel to it. We appreciated the quiet in the evenings and at night we were able to get a good night's sleep. The room was on the small side, but the bed was comfortable, the water pressure was strong, breakfast was varied, and the location is perfect. The hotel is very accessible and within a reasonable distance from the train station. It is centrally located within shops and restaurants and buildings of interest including a cathedral and Roman ruins. The view from our room of the mountains and clock tower was a bonus. The front staff at the hotel was very helpful.
We booked the room for two nights because we were taking the Bernina Express round trip. Had we known there was so much to do in Chur we would have stayed longer. The hotel will issue you a Guest Card Chur which gives you access to a number of places of interest including the pool and ice skating rink at a nearby ice sports facility. We would definitely stay at the Ambiente Hotel Freieck again.

The booking for this hotel was made through Booking.com and I was aware of the cancellation policy. But I had to cancel 24 hours before checkin due to my wife testing positive for Covid19. All the other hotels (also booked through Booking.com) refunded me in full BUT this hotel woud not. All they said was that they were going to charge me the two nights I had booked (CHF300.00) and they hoped that my insurance will cover the loss. If I do book again for Chur, guess which hotel i WILL NOT be staying at?

Good location but if you want privacy from your ensuite do not stay here. The ensuite in the room we stayed in had a frosted glass swing door which had lights above the door which changed from red to blue to green, but there is no privacy in the ensuite.
Also tea and coffee facilities were not available in the rooms which was disappointing. The room was supposed to be Swiss character but it seemed to be furnished with cheap pine furniture not of the same quality furniture as on the landing.

We were travelling with a large party, and came to this hotel. It is in a very old building with beautiful arched ceilings. Our room was good with all amenities. The breakfast was very good - hot and cold food, with even sparking wine to drink. The owners took a very close interest and chatted nicely to us throughout our stay. There is a bar with attractive seating and it is only a 7 minute walk to the station.

My partner and I stayed at the hotel in January 2021. Very clean and well serviced hotel ideally located in the old town. Despite the COVID impacts staff were very adaptive, helping to order food in and setting up the bar to allow guests to eat. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel if you are planning a visit to Chur or doing the Bernina World Heritage Railway trip!

We paid by credit card (VISA) on June 9, 2022.
There is a small lift. As far as I know, all floors/rooms are serviced by the lift, but certainly you can make the request to be sure.
There is 1 hr pay parking literally across the street using the parking meter, free from 2000 to 0600 overnight. There is discount parking in the underground structure at the COOP shopping centre down the street with discount cards available from the front desk. Staying at this property now. Best breakfast I have encountered in Chur (best coffee machine encountered).
