The Hotel Torre Guelfa is part of one of Florence’s most antique palaces. Palazzo Acciaiuoli dates back to 1260 and the medieval architectural structure was maintained for centuries almost unchanged. Respecting the palace’s historical background we have created rooms furnished in a traditional style, each different from the other, with private bathrooms, air conditioning and free wifi internet access. The Tower "La torre" Each of the 72 steps guiding up the tower is a small leap into the history of Florence and human civilization. Each step corresponds in fact 10 years of the life of this antique tower. 720 years which have seen blooming civilization, falling down empires, birth and death of whole dynasties, unleash wars and building up hope. The jump is violent. As well as the first impression once arrived finally at the top of the tower. The view over the city is simply breath taking. And now we are part of the history and we can touch it with a finger.

Great location, right next to Palazzo Vecchio and Ponte Vecchio, within walking distance to virtually everything. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment which was very spacious, clean and the beds were comfortable. There was also a small sink in the 2nd bedroom.

The shower room although small, but adequate. There was a huge wardrobe with in-room safe too. I only wish they provided bigger side tables for us to put our stuff and a few more chairs, since there’s so much space. We ended up putting most of our devices on the floor to charge. There was a TV was located in the sitting room with only 1 chair, I wonder if it’s used at all.

I’m thankful for they had someone to help carry our big luggage, as even though there was a lift, we had to access our room via 1 flight of stairs. Upon checkout, we could call the front desk for the bellhop too.

There were a few reviews about noise, but that didn’t bother us much. Our room was facing a quiet narrow alley, so perhaps we were lucky.

I had e-mailed the hotel with a few enquiries prior to the stay and they were very responsive and helpful. The front desk staff were most polite and helpful too.

The nearby paid garage was very useful to park our rental car and a short walk away from the hotel, so we didn’t have trouble hauling our luggage over. And it allowed us to enter the ZTL. Highly recommend families to book the apartment here.

This lovely hotel was a treat. We were only able to stay one night, but we absolutely loved it and will happily stay again. The staff was very friendly and allowed us to check into our single rooms early. The location could not be better and the public spaces are wonderfully decorated and very comfortable. The tower boasts excellent views of Florence and the breakfast was one of the nicest we've seen in quite a while. Will look forward to staying with them again on our next trip!

We stayed in this hotel twice during our trip to Tuscany. It is in a great location close to the Ponte Vecchio, and the building is one of the oldest in Florence. Which of course comes with plusses and minuses. On the plus side, there is a tower you can access at all times and operates as a bar in the evenings. Great views over the city. The minuses are pretty much non-functional air conditioning and very poor wifi. We stayed during some pretty hot weather and the room was very warm until well after midnight (we kept the windows open as they worked better than the AC).

We had very mixed feelings about this hotel, so I wanted to list what we thought the pro's and con's were, since we had more cons than pros for a 4* hotel I though an 'average' score was fair, as we probably would not stay here again.

Pro's: The location is unbeatable, we walked everywhere and everything is close by. The staff were all friendly. The room was very large with beautiful antique furniture throughout, the style of the hotel was very 'Florence' and attractive. It was clean. The tower was a nice touch with great views. Breakfast was okay, good coffee but no hot options.

Cons: Bit of a pong on the ground floor and on entry of our room. The room was either freezing or boiling (not great heating system for winter stays), bed was really hard and pretty uncomfortable, plus two singles and not a double so lots of falling into the crack! The bathroom needs a good update; poor shower. No in-room tea/coffee options and no irons (I realise this is a Florence-wide thing but we were unwilling to pay a massive laundry fee just for one shirt ironing). We ran out of bottled water, as the room was never restocked through our 4 night stay, but the gentleman at the front desk gave us his own personal water bottles, which was very kind but he was a bit annoyed. Our room looked over a narrow alley, so the room was very dark and most nights men were in the alley talking and drinking in to the early hours keeping us awake - I realise it is a city centre location, but they were directly under our window for hours!! Plus, for a 4* hotel there were no 'little extras' we were hoping for (e.g no slippers, no robes). As mentioned, breakfast was ok but in a big cold room with no hot options, which in February would have been nice!

I realise that for some of these items we could have asked/gone to front desk for help, but after two visits to the front desk we didn't want to spend our entire few days continuously asking for more things.

Overall, it was a nice stay but we wouldn't stay here again; mainly because of the poor quality of sleep.

This hotel is on a narrow side street within easy walking distance of the Uffizi Gallery, the Ponte Vecchio, and the Pitti Palace. You enter through a large gate into an alley-like foyer. Don't be put off. Registration desk is to the left..friendly and quick. There is a small elevator if you don't like stairs. This is an older building. Our room was large with a 4 poster bed, average mattress, and older furniture and light fixtures. The bathroom, however looked almost brand new. There was a sitting area on our floor with large leather couches and easy chairs. Breakfast was included. What a surprise! On the third floor, there was a large dining room with floor to ceiling windows and drapery with wood beam ceilings. The staff ( I think this is a family affair) is very friendly and helpful. You had a choice of eggs with fried prosciutto, cold cereals with milk, a salad bar with fresh vegetables and greens, pancakes, and a pastry table with a dozen selections. Of course, all of the hot cappuccino you cared to drink. Nice way to start the day! In the evening they have a tiny bar on two levels on the roof up a narrow stair with a spectacular view of the city.

We stayed at Hotel Torre Guelfa in Florence for three nights. The hotel is inside a 13th-century building and located conveniently in the city's historic center, making it easy to walk to places like the Ponte Vecchio and other major sights.

The rooms feel old and could definitely use some updating. They have antique furniture and four-poster beds, which might be nice for some, but I personally would have preferred something more modern. On our first night, we had an issue with the water heater not working, so we had to move to another room, which was a hassle, especially after we had already unpacked our luggage.

The staff were generally friendly and helpful, with a special shoutout to Vivian, who looked after the breakfast area. The breakfast was complientary and offered a lot of choices, which was a plus.

The real standout feature of this hotel is the view from its panoramic tower. Since the hotel is in one of the tallest privately-owned buildings in Florence, you get amazing views of the entire city. Getting up there via the old stairs is quite the experience too.

Even with the problems we had, I'd still say this hotel is worth considering because of its location and the unique tower view.

I've mixed feelings about this hotel.

The location is superb very close to the Ponti Vecchio and all the main attractions. The featured tower with drinks on top watching the sunset with all the church bells ringing was magical. The breakfast was delicious with a very cheerful staff serving the best cappuccinos!

Our room was in the annex on the second floor thus a newer room which was fine. Very clean and quiet. But to reach our room it entailed taking the elevator to the 3rd floor walking through a labyrinth of corridors and then down 2 large flight of stairs which was not so convenient and doing the reverse when we left the room. Also, our shower did not have hot water on two of the three mornings we were there, I feel due to the large tour groups of people that were checking out that morning.

Would I stay there, again? Hmmm... not sure

We are happy that you appreciated the amazing breakfast, the fantastic bar from the tower and the superb location, we would be pleased to report the appreciations to the staff all. Regarding the stairs, we do apologize but our hotel is a medieval tower in the city center. We are really sorry for the water, anyway the absence of hot water is not due to a technical problem when many people take a shower at the same time. Looking forward to welcome you back at Hotel Torre Guelfa for another great stay! With Warmest Regards, The Zucconi's

What a find! Staying in a place of history made our trip to Florence that bit more special. The room was large and furnished in historical decor. The bathroom spacious and functional. The bed had a harder mattress than we're used to but still comfortable. Breakfast was fab, with a large selection of food eaten in the beautiful dining room. The gem of this hotel though was the tower. Walking up the rickety stairs to spectacular views over Florence with a glass of wine, listening to the sound of horses hooves echoing from the streets below made me feel like I'd stepped back in time, and was a definite highlight. Staff were friendly and helpful, reception staff allowed us to store our luggage prior to check-in and after check-out. The hotel is in a great position for walking everywhere. 5 mins to Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, Uffizi gallery etc. Highly recommend.

I decided to choose the apartment offering of the hotel so I was not in the normal rooms. It was adequate and did the job but it appeared to be a work in process. Some areas were updated and looked great, other areas seemed a little vintage. The location is Amazing but what other reviewers wrote about the noise is 100% accurate. The carts that people sell goods from are stored next door and it is very loud at night and the morning. It didn't bother me but it may bother other customers. Staff great! The Tower was great and offered great views.

Hello Ed. It is a walking distance to the train station from Santa Maria Novella and also, as it is in the old city center, only taxis are permited. From the train station, there is a bus that goes right to the airport from time to time, since 5:30 am until midnight. The company is called Volainbus.
