We were disappointed in the Colonna Palace Hotel. The bed was hard and the wi-fi was really bad. Most of the time I could not connect my computer to the wi-fi. The rooftop bar was nice but you had to buy your drink at the lobby bar and take it up to the 7th floor where the rooftop is. There is a very small, shallow hot tub on the roof top but was very dirty. The staff was helpful and friendly. It is located across from the Parliament building so there are carabinieri stationed outside 24 / 7. It is in a great location being very close to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona. It's about a 6 to 8 block walk to the colliseum. Breakfast was included but not that good. The scrambled eggs were dry and cold. There wasn't much choice.
The hotel is old and could use some updating even if just lamps with USB ports.

It’s true that the rooms facing the street in the back are very noisy. I was staying a week and although my room was lovely, high ceilings, windows everywhere, I asked to be moved to a smaller room overlooking the piazza. Smaller does not mean any less comfortable.
I liked this hotel for its being true to itself. What I mean is that it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a comfortable, accommodating hotel perfectly located in the Centro.
Breakfast can be a bit crowded as it seems everyone wants to get a start at the same time. The staff work swiftly and with a smile. The coveted seats outside are spectacular as the view of the tip of S.Ignazio is superb.
The front desk staff were always pleasant and welcoming.
I loved coming back after a long day.
Don’t stay here if you’re looking for a Hilton or an intimate hideaway. It’s neither but a solid tourist hotel and that is what Rome has always had.

I stayed at this hotel with family while celebrating my fathers 70th birthday. Each of us had single rooms which were clean, comfortable and all required facilities. The AC was very much needed given the local temperature during our visit was in the high 30's. Breakfast was included and could be eaten on the roof terrace which had great views across the city. The staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The only minor annoyance was the poor WIFI, but we were out most of the time so it didn't really matter.
The location of the hotel is perfect, less than a 5 minute walk to either the Pantheon or Trevi Fountain. It's a 30 minute walk from Termini station or a short taxi ride.

This is an older hotel, but it's perfect location and cute rooftop terrance bumps this hotel to a 5 for me. They serve drinks at the rooftop terrance, but if you wanted to explore you at a 5 min walk from the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain and only a 10 minute walk to the Spanish steps. You also have heightened security since you are literally in front of parliament.

Our room's A/C did not work (in the middle of a heat wave) and somehow the rock hard mattress was slightly tilted. I only managed to get 3 hours of broken sleep. The front desk staff and managers were rude about it. The next night they moved us to a room with a broken TV and flickering ceiling light (which they never bothered to fix). The furniture in both rooms was scratched and dented.

Incidentally, we got a couple cocktails from their bar but when we tried to pay they insisted we pay when we checked out. Normally, not a big deal, but considering everything they put us through, they should have at least apologized and given us the drinks on the house.

Easily the worst experience I've paid for at a hotel. Don't be fooled by the pretty lobby and central location. Avoid Colonna "Palace" Hotel at all costs. It's only a 4-Star Hotel on paper.

We have been coming to this hotel for about 20 years. It has been consistently great over the years. We had a deluxe room which is one up from superior and worth the extra dollars. Lots of space and a fantastic view over the square. The staff here are fabulous. Very friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was standard bread rolls, cold meat, cheese, yoghurt, coffee served on the rooftop. We love the rooftop. It is a great place to visit during the day. Spectacular views over the local area. Our room was spacious, there was a bath which was a huge bonus. You won’t beat the location. About a 2-3 minute walk to the pantheon. Every major tourist attraction is within a 10 minute walk. Clean, safe and reliable. We will always stay here when we visit Rome. Highly recommended.

We are experienced travelers to Rome over 40 years and were delighted to find accommodations at Colonna Palace on short notice. Our room was large, with two large windows overlooking the Pza Monti Cimitori, a comfortable bed, good reading light, a desk, a small refrigerator, and a bath with shower. The high ceiling and windows conveyed spaciousness and plenty of natural light during the daytime. The breakfast was exceptionally abundant and included excellent croissants and rolls, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, and scrambled eggs. Service at breakfast was attentive, and the room where it is served is pleasant. The public areas including bar on the ground floor and rooftop are inviting. Desk staff helped find last minute Coliseum tour tickets for us.

We could not be happier with our experience with this hotel. The staff helped us prior to our arrival by helping us schedule a driver for an airport transfer as well as a full-day custom tour. The driver, Simon, was excellent! Our room was ready upon arrival and it was very comfortable. The location is within walking distance of most major attractions. The breakfast served in the mornings was very good. It would be a 5-star review except the water pressure is not the strongest, nor is the a/c, and the "jacuzzi" on the roof was dirty and cold. Regardless of those issues, it was a really pleasant stay and we hope to be back soon.

Loved this hotel! The staff were so welcoming and the room felt grand and glamourous. We had a great view of the street and square with lovely opening window/balconies.
The rooftop terrace has absolutely stunning views and we enjoyed apertivo here each night.
The location is fantastic - right in the heart of the gorgeous eternal city. Most major sites are walking distance or easy to get to. Lots of great restaurants around the area as well.
Our thanks to the team who made us feel welcome and enjoyed a joke and chat with us during our stay.

Upon checking in, we went to our room and the entire room smelled like a sewer. We went to the front desk and asked if we could be moved to another room. The hotel accommodated our request, unfortunately the next room was just as bad. We ultimately left the hotel and got a reservation somewhere else. They may have had a plumbing issue that has hopefully since been resolved.

I'm not sure where exactly there is a supermarket. We didn't really pay attention to that. I would look at Google maps to check that out. There are certainly lots of stores and places to get food.

What are thr guidelines for tipping taxi drivers? (Is it expected as in US? How much?)
Answer from David W

Being an American, we normally tip, but they aren't expecting us to. I still gave a minimal tip and they did appreciate it. I did find when I paid extra, they usually tried to give me my change back and I had to tell them to keep the extra. They don't assume to keep the change.
