As a main entrance point in and out of Italy, for me, staying in Rome is a balance of finding somewhere relaxing enough for me to unwind and get over my jet lag, as well as finding a traditional fit that really gets me excited to explore the history and beauty of this city. Hotel Splendide Royal ticks all these boxes!
A 5 star hotel that was once a 19th Century palace, the property is classically styled in Rococo or late baroque. This is classic Rome inspired by the red, blue and yellow colourings of the Vatican Guard, with generous sized rooms elegantly furnished with plush fabrics, French furniture and marble bathrooms. The rooms are always clean and well maintained, as well as being spacious and luxurious, as you would expect from a 5 star hotel.
Two of the great features of the hotel are the breakfast room and restaurant on the 6th and 7th floors, which both have stunning views from the outdoor patio overlooking the spectacular Borghese Gardens and across Rome – one of the best you can get. The 7th floor Mirabelle Restaurant also has a private dining room housed in its cellar – a must do if you are with a group!
The staff here are also very helpful, with nothing being too much of a problem for them. They really do go above and beyond to make you feel at home and also have some great restaurant recommendations.
It’s an easy walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Villa Borghese, Via Veneto (about 10min to each) and a reasonable distance from all the other Rome attractions and the central train station. You will have to use the train if you want to go to other attractions further out such as the Colosseum, Vatican and Trastevere.
Another quick tip on it’s great location… with Rome being extremely hot in the summer, this property is a nice escape as its proximity to the park and the large shaded trees gives you a nice escape from the blazing sun!

This hotel is located within easy reach of a number of attractions and is real old style. We were upgraded from a de luxe room to a premium room which was really like a mini suite with a bathroom completely separate to the bedroom. It was on the front of the building and over the main entrance so some noise from the street below from arrivals and departures. The overall impression is one of quite a luxurious style, the area where breakfast is served is on the sixth floor with good views and similarly good views from the restaurant and roof top bar. There was a good choice on the buffet breakfast and I have only put it as 4* as I think the pricing of meals and drinks is rather high and slightly off putting for the overage traveller. The reception staff were extremely helpful when I had a problem with my booked taxi transfer and that was really appreciated.

From the warm welcoming of the "mustached" Doorman to the personal way the Front desk and concierge try to accommodate your every need. The rooms are always meticulously clean and fresh. The location that runs almost parallel to Via Veneto is a short walk to the Spanish steps and Rome's best shopping. The breakfast is taken on the 6th floor with large windows overlooking parts of Villa Borghese. The top floor is now a wonderful bar with light fair that is not to be missed. The prices for the drinks are tres cher but they also provide a small tray of "tapas" or a light selection of deserts (depending on what time you visit) Either way the view is a must experience.

Maybe the best hotel experience I've ever had. The staff was friendly and helpful, answering various questions we had about Rome or travel plans. The housekeeping staff was INCREDIBLE. Breakfast was served in a beautiful room and offered a great selection to suit all tastes and appetite levels. Take advantage of the relationship with the King Spa! It was one of the highlights of our trip. We happened to like the location, within easy walking distance of many tourist spots, but not right on top of them--meaning not too crowded.

Wonderful 5 night stay in this hotel. It's in a lovely location, right next to the Borghese gardens which provide a respite from the hustle and bustle of Rome. All sites were within a 15 minute taxi ride and most were easily walkable. The service was wonderful and we felt well cared for. Because the hotel is situated on one of the seven hills of Rome, the views from the breakfast room and the terrace bar are stunning. Be prepared to pay for the drinks at the terrace bar. We went once for the views. It's unfortunate it was so incredibly expensive. 30 Euros for a small glass of wine made it a one time experience where we probably would have finished each day with a drink there if they'd been more reasonable. But this was truly a wonderful place to stay in Rome. I highly recommend it!

As soon as we arrived we were immediately impressed with the treatment we were given. The porter, concierge and front desk agent all seemed genuine in their approach to us and made us feel very welcome. Upon entering our amazing room we were astonished with the look, wonderful light, view of the historic park and overall comfort. It is a pity that we were there for a mere 3 days. We would have loved to stay longer. The Breakfast service was also exemplary. Special thanks to the restaurant staff who took such good care of us. It is very obvious that the hotel invests in a good training program for its employees as the excellent guest-centric approach was evident throughout all levels of employees. We will definitely return.

My wife and I stayed for 11 nights in October 2020 and we can honestly say that this was our best ever experience in a hotel. The staff were absolutely wonderful and treated us like royalty. The hotel is amazing, the restaurant on the top floor with views of Vatican City serves top quality food and wines, the staff were lovely. The location is excellent, just a 5 minute walk to Spanish Steps and tube, 20 minutes to the Trevi Fountain, however the hotel is in a quiet location. Our room, with a superb bed and spacious bathroom with a bath provided a luxurious haven after a busy day of sight seeing. We recommend 30min day trips by rail to Ostia and Trevi. What a truly "splendide" stay... Grazie mille !!

From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been better at this hotel. Very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The room on the third floor was massive and very nicely decorated and we had a great view over the park. The hotel is in a great location just 5 mins from the Spanish steps. The breakfast is one of the best I have ever had at a 5 star hotel. Firstly the view from the restaurant is breathtaking and sitting there eating your breakfast outside overlooking the whole of Rome was amazing. Secondly the service was outstanding. Thirdly the food was delicious. I will definitely return to this hotel the next time I am back in Rome

If this isn’t the best hotel in Rome than I don’t know what is. The location is perfect, directly opposite the Borghese Gardens and walking distance to the best parts of Rome. The staff are welcoming, helpful and professional and the Doorman offered excellent advice on where to eat and explore. We stayed in the new wing and the suite is exceptional with ample space throughout, including the beautiful bathroom and closet space galore. The bed was outrageously comfortable and the daily service exemplary. The reception staff looked after us from start to finish with a few much appreciated surprises thrown in, and we couldn’t fault a thing during our stay. We will never stay anywhere else when we return to Rome. Thanks to all of the team at Hotel Splendide for providing a peak experience so late in a sensational 10 week world holiday.

Perfect start to our vacation in Italy! This hotel is near the Borghese gardens in a quieter area of the city. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our basic room was small but well appointed with a large bathroom. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The shower was large and had excellent water pressure. Plenty of storage in the large closet.
We included breakfast in our stay and this turned out to be a great decision. Breakfast was on the 6th floor. The room was gorgeous with amazing views. Service was impeccable. The cappucinos made to order were delicious, as was the plentiful spread of food.
We had a drink on the rooftop one evening. We tried the first night but the men were turned away for wearing shorts (even with collared shirts and nice shoes). The rooftop has the best views in the city! Cocktails were excellent and very expensive (28 euros) but came with a nice variety of snacks.
Doorman and bellhop were very professional and kind. We were warmly greeted each time we returned. We will recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Rome.

Yes, a delicious breakfast was included. We had coffee delivered to our room before we went for breakfast. Cant say enough good things about this hotel! The concierge is outstanding. We had lunch one day the Pagnanelli 1882 in Castelli Romani and they arranged transportation for us. View is phenomenal and enjoyed a tour of their wine cellar.
There are more places to choose from in the Rome area.
